Welcome: Rev’d Margaret Thompson

1

Womb of life, and source of being,

home of ev’ry restless heart,

in your arms the worlds awakened;

you have loved us from the start.

We, your children, gather round you,

at the table you prepare.

Sharing stories, tears and laughter,

we are nurtured by your care.

2

Word in flesh, our brother Jesus,

born to bring us second birth,

you have come to stand beside us,

knowing weakness, knowing earth.

Priest who shares our human

struggles,

Life of Life, and Death of Death,

risen Christ, come stand among us,

send the Spirit by your breath.

3

Brooding Spirit, move among us;

be our partner, be our friend.

When our mem’ry fails, remind us

whose we are, what we intend.

Labour with us, aid the birthing

of the new world yet to be,

free of servant, lord and master,

free for love and unity.

4

Mother, Brother, holy Partner;

Father, Spirit, Only Son:

we would praise your name forever,

one-in-three, and three-in-one.

We would share your life, your

passion,

share your word of world made new,

ever singing, ever praising,

one with all, and one with you.

Gradual Hymn: O Christ the healer we have come Tune: Angelus [CP339]

Gospel Reading: Mark 5: 21-43 Rev’d Graeme Pilgrim

NZPB page: 413 The Prayers of the People led by Keith James

NZPB page: 419 The Peace Rev’d Margaret Thompson We greet the people near us, saying ‘Peace be with you’ / ‘Kia tau te rangimarie’.

During the next hymn the bread and wine, symbols of Christ’s life, are brought to the altar; our offerings of money to support the mission and ministry of the Cathedral are collected and brought forward also.

Offertory Hymn: Blessed is the body and the soul tune: Lee

Blessed is the body and the soul,

blessed is the broken one made whole;

blessed is the taste of wine and bread,

blessed is the rising from the dead.

Touch the wounded places as we meet;

feel my hands, my side, my head, my feet.

Touch me, Thomas, touch and doubt no more.

I am Christ, alive for evermore.

1

O Christ, the healer, we have come

to pray for health, to plead for friends.

How can we fail to be restored,

when reached by love that never ends?

2 From every ailment flesh endures

our bodies clamour to be freed;

yet in our hearts we would confess

that wholeness is our deepest need.

3 In conflicts that destroy our health,

we diagnose the world's disease;

our common life declares our ills:

is there no cure, O Christ, for these?

4

Grant that we all, made one in faith,

in your community may find

the wholeness that, enriching us,

shall reach the whole of humankind.

Touch the wounded heart of God today,

feel the pulse within this bit of clay;

love redeemed my body and my soul.

Thomas, feel the broken one made whole.

Blessed is the heart that can receive,

blessed is the one who learns to grieve;

blessed are the ashes and the dust,

blessed is the one who learns to trust. Blessed is the body and the soul,

blessed is the broken one made whole;

blessed is the taste of wine and bread,

blessed is the rising from the dead.
