PRAYER OF JABEZ
Prelude
Opening Song - “Greater”
Welcome
Prayer
Song - “For All The Saints”
*Litany:
Worship Leader: We gather in the strong name of our God.
We praise you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Worship Leader: Lord, you have called us your saints, “holy ones,”
through the blood of Christ.
Pastor: Our identity is defined no longer as sinners, but saints, filled with the Holy
Spirit.
We have a new identity in Christ. Old things have passed away.
Worship Leader: All things have become new.
Pastor: Let the holy ones of God shout Hallelujah!
We are the holy ones of God. Hallelujah!
Worship Leader: Every promise is ours to receive by faith through Jesus Christ.
Pastor: Strengthen our faith in your Word; empower us to live by faith.
You give us abundant life through Christ’s Spirit living within us.
Worship Leader: God’s promise is our hope!
Pastor: Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.”
“All who believe in Him will not die but have eternal life.”
Worship Leader: Your Word says that those who have died in the faith are
asleep, still alive in your Presence.
Pastor: They are a “great cloud of witnesses.”
May all the saints, we who are living, and those who have died,
shine like the stars at night.
Worship Leader: Today, in this strong hope, we remember those who have died
and been laid to rest from Faith Lutheran this past year.
Pastor: Before you, O Lord, we remember the life of Richard Riedemann,
David Crawford, Carlton Quee and others we name in our hearts.
We thank you Lord for their lives, and we pray that you will keep them
with all the saints in light.
Worship Leader: May everyone at Faith feel connected to the body of Christ.
We are one in His Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
*Prayer of the Day (by Safiyah Fosua)
We give you thanks, O God, for all the saints who ever worshiped you: Whether
in brush arbors or cathedrals, weathered wooden churches or crumbling
cement meeting houses where your name was lifted and adored.
We give you thanks, O God, for hands lifted in praise: Manicured hands and
hands stained with grease or soil, strong hands and those gnarled with age,
Holy hands used as wave offerings across the land.
We thank you, God, for hardworking saints; Whether hard-hatted or steel-
booted, head ragged or aproned, blue-collared or three-piece-suited, they left
their mark on the earth for you, for us, for our children to come.
Thank you, God, for the tremendous sacrifices made by those who have gone
before us. Bless the memories of your saints, God. May we learn how to walk
wisely from their examples of faith, dedication, worship, and love. In Jesus’
name. Amen.

First Lesson - Genesis 32:22-32 22 That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two female servants and his
eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 After he had sent them across the
stream, he sent over all his possessions. 24 So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled
with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he
touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with
the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will
not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered. 28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but
Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.” 29 Jacob said, “Please tell me your name.” But he replied, “Why do you ask my

name?” Then he blessed him there. 30 So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is
because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”31 The sun rose above
him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip. 32 Therefore to this day
the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the
socket of Jacob’s hip was touched near the tendon.
Second Lesson - Ephesians 1:3-8a 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the
heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before
the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined
us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and
will - 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he
loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in
accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us.
Gospel - Mark 10:13-16
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but
the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them,
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God
belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of
God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed
his hands on them and blessed them.
1. Is the Prayer of Jabez a formula for success in life, or a request of a child before
the Father?
2. Why do all people crave the blessing of God?
3. What does it mean to be “blessed by God?”
4. What do you think the phrase “enlarge my territory” mean?
5. Why do we place a hand on another person’s shoulder? What does it convey?
6. Who ultimately answers the request of the fourth petition of this prayer,
“Keep me from harm?”
7. If we prayed this prayer each day, how might it change our expectations?

Thanks for Giving
Sunday
Each year in November, Faith Lutheran
celebrates our generosity by hosting a
special Sunday. This year the special
Sunday, called “Thanks for Giving!”, will be Sunday,
November 18th at 9 a.m. The day includes worship followed
by a meal together immediately following worship.
That day, Pastor Lee will preach on Jesus’ Gethsemane prayer.
During worship, we will have a Processional Offering. The
pledges of service and giving for 2019 will be received along
with the actual offering that day.
After worship, the Stewardship Ministry Team will host a
special meal. The Faith Council will serve the dinner that
morning. We will give our heartfelt thanks to God in a special
way on November 18!
