Jesus was born to walk the lonely path of the cross. Many people walked with Jesus as He journeyed to that cross but many of them did not stay with Him. Your Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, and Your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does. – Psalm 145:13 Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness! You have led Pastor Blanke to Resurrection, at this specific time, for Your good purposes in our church. Lord, if it be Your Will, quicken his heart to accept this call as He seeks Your guidance in the two calls now set before him: at his home congregation and at Resurrection. Guard and protect him in his coming and going, and grant him wisdom and peace in his quiet time with You. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Old Play will be our entertainment and light refreshments will be served. Volunteers are onsite for set up as early as 5:00 pm.

Are you interested in helping this wonderful outreach ministry? If you are, please contact Brenda Peterson at [email protected] or 919-319-1401. If you would like to donate, please make your check payable to RLC and note “coffeehouse ministry” in memo. All donations are welcome and very much needed as we now serve between 150-200 guests at each event.

We give God the Glory and thank Him for this ministry among us! RLC’s Coffeehouses are a truly wonderful ministry providing a safe, social environment for our guests, which is often a difficult thing for them to find. It is always amazing to see the joy on our guest’s faces at each event, their dancing is memorable, and their hugs too! Also, a BIG thank you to all of our volunteers! We could not have this ministry without you!

We really appreciate the outpouring of support from our congregation for the August Coffeehouse where we were going to be short on volunteers—thank you all!

Call Update

As a way of keeping the congregation updated regarding the status of our Call to Pastor Blanke as Senior Pastor, we will look to post updates as they develop.

The Official Call Documents were sent to Pastor Blanke this week. We needed to get some clarification from the Southeastern District on a couple items. As part of our communication with them, they commented “Pastor Blanke would be a great fit for RLC.” Special thanks to our Operations Director, Margaret Hyatt, for all her help in preparing the documents.

Pastor Blanke sent us a message that “he and his wife, Juli, are keeping all of you in our prayers as the impact of the storm is felt.”

We have already invited Pastor Blanke to come visit again. He will provide an update following the review of the Call Documents. We will keep everyone posted regarding the possible visit.

Also, we wanted to let everyone know that the Council, on behalf of the congregation, and the Staff wrote personal notes to Pastor Merker for all his help and support during our transition and leading our Call Service. A small honorarium was included.

If you have any questions, please contact Bob Shimmel at [email protected]. Your Church Council

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

The Mediterranean Diet Made Simple and Tasty Have you heard about the Mediterranean Diet and wondered what it’s all about, or knew a little bit about it but worried that it might be too complicated or time-consuming? Join us to learn about the health and flavor benefits of this delicious and nutritious lifestyle. Meal preparation will be kept simple, with recipes focused on tasty, easily-prepared fresh produce, whole grains, and other healthy options. The foods will not necessarily be vegetarian, but will be “vegetable-forward,” while still hearty and familiar enough to appeal to the whole family. You’ll get good ideas for main course preparations as well as for side dishes, salads, breads, other baked goods, and even desserts! You’ll leave with booklet of weeknight-friendly recipes to inspire you to try something new.

The class will consist of one 2 1/2-hour session and will be offered on both Thursday, September 26 from 6:00-8:30 pm, and on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00 am-12:30 pm in the Family Life Center kitchen, so you can choose the class time that best suits your schedule. The class will be both demonstration and participation and includes snacks and recipes, so bring an apron and come ready to sample! The cost of the class is $25; the proceeds will be used to enhance the equipment in the kitchen, and a portion will also be donated to Meals on Wheels of Wake County as part of Resurrection’s community outreach ministry.

To sign up for the class, email Kim Otten at [email protected]. Your place will be guaranteed once we receive your registration and class fee; please make checks payable for $25 to Resurrection Lutheran Church with “cooking class” in the memo. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 919-303-5044. Hope to see you there!

Chef Kim will prepare heavy hors d'oeuvres.

For planning purposes, we need RSVPs as soon as possible. Please RSVP if you know or think you will be attending the event.

Contributions for a gift is greatly appreciated. Please make payable to Mike Hahne and place in his church mailbox by the end of September.

Several Unger family members will be traveling to the celebration from out of state and flight miles donations are appreciated.

Contact MaryAnn directly for contributions at [email protected].

RSVPs and questions may be directed to Kristi Grabow.

Pictures of Bob in ministry are needed and should be given to Kristi Grabow for scanning or sent to Kristi at [email protected].

Acolytes For rising 5th graders and older students that need acolyte training, which will take place in September, please watch for the information and plan to attend. Dates for training will be sent through RCB email, as well as listed in the news-letter and announcements.

Being an acolyte allows our youth to be actively involved in serving at RLC. You are able to sign up online for dates and service times that work for your family.

For current acolytes, please continue to serve by signing up for services at www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b48afa62c7-summer.

Nursery for Infants and Toddlers Nursery is available in Room 115 of the Preschool wing. Sign your child in with adult nursery attendant.

Due to children with food allergies, no food or snacks will be allowed in the nursery on Sundays. Worshipping with Small Children Quiet activity bags, books, and worksheets are located in the Narthex and at the children’s table in the lobby of the Family Life Center.

Kidz Live In past years, there has been the opportunity for kids to play and be supervised during Wednesday night classes. In order for this to happen, we need volunteers willing to plan some games/activities and to supervise the kids from 6:30-7:45 pm. With enough volunteers, you would only need to be there one or two Wednesdays each month. We are looking for high school students and adults.

Please reply to [email protected], if interested, have questions, or want to sign up!

RLC Christmas Program This year, we are planning on having the children's program at the 3:00 pm Christmas Eve Service. Rehearsals will take place during Sunday School hour on December 5 and 12, as well as a couple of Saturdays for approximately an hour.

In order to plan, it would be extremely helpful to have an idea of how many kids will participate and what their ages are. Material will need to be chosen based on abilities.

Please reply to [email protected] with your child's name and age/grade if you would like to participate.

Children's Church for ages 3-6, is held weekly during the 10:45 worship service.

Children are dismissed before the sermon for 20 minutes to gather together for a short lesson or story about the theme of the day. They will work on a craft and/or sing a song that matches the story. This time will help them grow their faith.

If you would like to help with Children's Church, contact [email protected] or [email protected].
