Pre-Hockey 1 (Beginner) This class helps build confidence in the childs skating ability and teaches the student the basic skill of: balance, one and two foot glides, forward swizzles, forward pushing, backward wiggles and swizzles, T-pushes and two foot snowplow stops, forward and backward transitions. The basics of puck control, passing and receiving will be introduced in this class. Pre-Hockey 2 (Intermediate) This class continues to focus on the childs skating ability and introduce new elements: full forward strides, forward cross- overs, one foot snow plow stop, backward C cuts, backward crossovers, forward stops and starts and hockey stops. This class will also focus on additional development of passing, receiving and puck control. Pre-Hockey 3 (Advanced) This class continues to focus on the childs skating ability and introduces new elements: full forward stride, forward cross- overs, one foot snow plow stops, backward C cuts, backward crossovers, Forward stops and starts and hockey stops. This class will also focus on additional development of passing, receiving and puck control. Prerequisites: Children must be able to balance themselves on skates and move across the rink on their own. Snow Plow Sam (Tot), Basic 1-2 classes or Basic Hockey Skating classes are required prior to admission into the Pre-Hockey curriculum. Required Equipment: for Pre-hockey class is a helmet with a full facemask, hockey gloves or winter gloves. Shin guards and elbow pads are recommended. All other hockey equipment is optional but recommended. All elements will be taught without a stick or puck as proper skating techniques are the primary focus of the class. No stick or puck are used in this class.
