ENERGY DRINKS MYTH : Caffeinated energy drinks promise super alertness, and sometimes imply better sports performance.

KNOWN INGREDIENTS

Could not find what was meant by “explosive energy blend”. Amount of each ingredient also left me wondering.

The FDA does not approve or review the products before they are marketed. Although dietary supplement manufacturers must register their facilities with FDA,* they are not required to get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements.(Fda.gov, 2015)

DIGESTIVE HEALTH CONCERNS

Energy drinks have as much sugar as soft drinks, enough caffeine to raise your blood pressure, and additives whose long-term health effects are unknown.

If you take an energy drink before exercise, it could increase your blood pressure, overstimulate your heart or nervous system, resulting in a number of potential side effects.

The processed sugar can add up in calories and damage digestive tract microvilli, while adding stress on vital organs and immune function.

(Doheny,K, 2008)

ALTERNATIVES FOR LONG LASTING ENERGY

▪ Enough rest and proper sleep – Eliminate all electronics before bed.

▪ Nutrient dense foods- eat small healthy snacks throughout the day to boost metabolism and provide energy all day long.

Recommended physical activity- take 15-20 minute walks or participate in some type of exercise program to keep blood flowing, and muscles working.

Hydration- consume recommended amount of water every day to keep organs functioning properly and the mind awake and alert.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES TO MAXIMIZING YOUR

ENERGY Eat breakfast every day

Eating a nutritious breakfast is a great way to jump-start the day. Eating a healthy breakfast can also keep your cholesterol in check, make your body more responsive to insulin (and so help protect against type 2 diabetes), improve your performance on memory-related tasks, minimize impulse snacking and overeating at other meals, and boost your intake of essential nutrients — and may also help keep your weight in check.(Harvard health publications., 2015)
