WEEK 10| TERM 2| 2020
Prep at St Mary’s
The news is out…. St Mary’s is the place to be for Prep in 2021! We have been overwhelmed with the enrolment applications received for Prep in 2021. To cater for this growing demand, our school has been in close discussions with the Townsville Catholic Education Office to explore providing two Prep classes in 2021. We offer a nurturing school environment, with flexible and contemporary learning spaces. Our Prep students are guided and supported to access the Prep Curriculum, where learning is catered towards the individual needs and uniqueness of each child. The Prep students early literacy skills are developed through engaging in InitiaLit, which is an evidence-based whole class literacy program. This program has been successfully implemented over the past two years with outstanding results. Our Pre-Prep families will formally join our school community next term, with our Pre-Prep Transition Program beginning on Friday 17th July. We simply cannot wait to welcome all of our new families to St Mary’s. As our school grows, who we are remains the same. We pride ourselves on being ‘One Big Family’ where everyone feels welcome. The way our teachers invest in their students and the way we encourage a close relationship with families ensures that our school’s ethos remains intact. We thank all parents who continue to value and champion our school. Keep spreading the good word about the many amazing things that happen at our school each day.

Religious Life of our School
As our school term draws to an end, we have spent time in our classrooms reflecting upon our journey together. COVID-19 certainly presented our school with many challenges. We overcame all challenges and are certainly stronger as a result. Many years ago I met Fr Mick Lowcock. During our conversation, Fr Mick suggested that I ask myself three questions at the end of each day.
1. What challenged me today? 2. What am I grateful for today? 3. Where did I see God today?
I have asked myself these same three questions every day since that initial conversation with Fr Mick. This term, I was challenged many times to find the sunshine, when so much change was occurring in my surroundings. I am grateful for my staff who have risen to every challenge presented before them and grateful for the love and support provided by our amazing families. I saw God every day in my students: in their questions, in their interactions, in their words and in the love they show to one another. You may like to ask yourself these questions, especially during these uncertain times. Take care everyone and God Bless.

Mary’s Marvellous Big Day Out
The last day of the school term is always celebrated
with an excursion. But, today we are spending it at
school, enjoying some fun activities and in free
dress….actually our Pyjamas!!!
Perfect weather for wearing PJ’s to school.
Flexischools is Coming to St Mary’s! In Term 3, our school will move to Flexischools to make school lunches even easier!!!! Flexischools is an online platform, which families can access to order Tuckshop. This online program allows for cashless convenience. Kristy Sylvester and Linda Phillips have undertaken training to be able to provide Flexischools to our school community. We thank our P&F Association for supporting this venture. A flyer will be sent home to provide information regarding the set up of your account. Please contact Linda or Kristy if you have any questions.
Thank you! Thank you!
Our Mini Vinnie students, thank
everyone for their kind donations of
clothing for the St Vincent De Paul
Winter Appeal.
Your generous donations will help
those in need this Winter.

News from our School Chaplain Mrs Maltby… It is with sadness that I leave my position as Chaplain of St Mary’s Catholic
School. It has been my absolute pleasure to serve the students, parents and
staff at our school. I will greatly miss my interactions and relationships built
with you all as I enter a new phase of my life. My hope is that a new
Chaplain is appointed and brings new beginnings and an enthusiastic
approach to St Mary’s. I wish you all the best life can bring with God at your
side. God Bless You All.
Mini Vinnies are unable to visit Murroona Gardens this term but birthday
cards lovingly made by our Prep class are being sent electronically to the resi-
dents for some birthday cheer. This week cards were sent to Grandma Pam
(89) and Grandma Helen (93). Thank you Preps.
