¾Three-time Super Bowl champion (XXXIX, XLIX, LI). ¾Six AFC Championships and 13 AFC East Championships. ¾ In Patricia’s six seasons (2012-17) coordinating the Patriots defense, the club accumulated an NFL-best 75-21 (.781) record in that span. ¾Patricia's defense ranked 2nd in points allowed (19.2), fourth in games allowing 20 points or fewer (53) and 2nd in games allowing 17 points or fewer (47) over the course of those six seasons. ¾Reached 12 or more wins in 11 out of 14 seasons as a member of the Patriots coaching staff. ¾Patricia’s six seasons overseeing New England’s defense led to the sixth-most takeaways (157) during that span, while they also accumulated an NFL-best +71 turnover differential. ¾ In Patricia’s final year as defensive coordinator in 2017, the Patriots held teams to 20 points or fewer in 11 games (2nd in NFL), including 10 games with 17 or fewer.

LEADER OF THE PRIDE

MATT PATRICIAHead CoachSeasons with Lions: 1Seasons in NFL: 15

PATRICIA HIRED TO LEAD LIONS ON FEB. 5, 2018As Detroit’s 27th coach in franchise history, Patricia has emphasized the dedication and passion to championship-caliber football that has defined him throughout his coaching career.

"I want to represent the toughness of this city. We will be organized. We will be detailed. We will teach and develop our players and our coaches. We will be passionate. We will love and respect the game, and we will be committed to winning."

PATRICIA'S COACHING HISTORY YEAR TEAM POSITION2018- Detroit Lions Head Coach2012-17 New England Patriots Defensive Coordinator2011 New England Patriots Safeties2006-10 New England Patriots Linebackers2005 New England Patriots Assistant Offensive Line2004 New England Patriots Coaching Assistant1999-2000 Amherst Defensive Line1996 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Graduate Assistant

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT PATRICIALions Executive Vice President & General Manager Bob Quinn: “When we launched the search for our next head coach, I wanted to find a leader that could take us to the next level and I am confident we have found that in Matt Patricia. Matt is driven to succeed, has extreme passion for the game and excels in preparation. He embodies the same hard-working, blue-collar attributes that represent our organization and the great City of Detroit.”

Lions OL Graham Glasgow on what he senses from Patricia & how he's laid out what he wants to do with this team: “He’s always just down to brass tacks. He’s very straight forward and his goals are to win and to just win every week. And that’s something that all of us can get behind.”

Lions LB Jarrad Davis on what he learned about Patricia in the offseason & how much of a difference a coach can be in the NFL: “It can be a huge difference. The way he came in, honestly, just set the tone right away. You know, he came in, he laid down the law, he gave us the rules and he came in with energy. He wasn’t saying, ‘Oh, this is how it’s going to be.’ He came in, he made it clear, gave us the expectations, and now we have something we can chase."

Lions G T.J. Lang on his first impressions of Patricia: “He’s won quite a few championships and knows the way it’s supposed to go, knows how winning football looks. Excited to have him as a coach. I think the biggest thing you hear from guys throughout the last couple (months) is he’s always excited. Every time you talk to him he’s very passionate about this game and it’s going to be fun to work with him. I think anytime you get a chance to work with a guy with such a great resume that he has, you’ve obviously got to be excited about that.”

QUINN MAKES HIS MARK

BOB QUINNEVP and General ManagerSeasons with Lions: 3Seasons in NFL: 19

NEW TO DETROIT IN 2018BUILDING FOR SUCCESSIn 2016, his first season at the helm, Quinn became the Lions’ first general manager to guide the team to the playoffs in his inaugural season since Nick Kerbawy in 1952.

¾Entering his third season, Quinn's ongoing commitment to improve all aspects of the club's football operations was highlighted by naming Matt Patricia the team's new head coach in 2018. ¾Along with the nearly 40-percent changeover and upgrade to the team’s roster he inherited in 2016, Quinn’s changes paid dividends in 2016 when the Lions finished 9-7 on the team’s way to the playoffs. ¾ In his second season, Quin continued to build upon his vision including restructuring the player personnel department and scouting evaluation processes; renovating the team’s weight room and practice fields along with other facility improvements; upgrading the team’s football information and video technology; and instituting a comprehensive nutritional program, which included the hiring of a performance dietician for the players.

DRAFTING EXPERTISEQuinn’s first three draft classes have featured strength up front on both sides of the ball, as well as speed in key positions. LB Jarrad Davis, the Lions’ 2017 first-round selection out of Florida, led all rookies in total tackles last season with 96, while fifth-round pick CB Jamal Agnew led the NFL in punt return touchdowns (2) and punt return average (15.4) en route to Associated Press First Team All-Pro honors. Quinn's initial draft class in 2016 featured the selection of six linemen on offense and defense, the most linemen in a Lions draft since 1989 and the most ever in a seven-round draft. PATRIOTS PASTDuring his time with New England, Quinn served a number of roles in the player personnel department, including most recently as Director of Pro Scouting from 2012-15. While he worked as Director of Pro Scouting, the Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX and four-straight AFC East Division championships.

¾ From 2009-2012, Quinn was the Assistant Director of Pro Personnel. For the previous nine years, Quinn worked in several different capacities within the Patriots player personnel department, including roles in college scouting as a National Scout and Regional Scout. He played an integral role in evaluating and procuring talent for the team through the NFL draft process, free agency, trades, etc. ¾While working for the New England Patriots, he helped

contribute to one of the most impressive stretches in NFL history, one that produced four Super Bowl titles. Since 2000, Quinn’s first year with New England, the Patriots have won six AFC Championships, 13 AFC East titles, 12+ games in a season 10 times (which includes the past six years) and 10+ games in 14 of his 16 seasons.

¾In the teams’ first meeting, the Lions defeated Oakland 28-14 on Thanksgiving Day (11/26/70). The win was the second of five straight wins that propelled the Lions to their first playoff berth since 1957. RB

Mel Farr rushed 21 times for 121 yards to rally Detroit from a 14-0 deficit. ¾The Lions shut out the defending Super Bowl champion Raiders 16-0 on September 27, 1981. Detroit was the first team to shut out the Raiders in 15 years, by limiting Oakland to only 131 yards in total offense. The Lions collected six sacks and DB Jimmy Allen intercepted his fourth pass in as many games. RB Billy Sims earned his second consecutive 100-yard rushing game (133 yards) while RB Dexter Bussey passed RB Altie Taylor as the club’s all-time leading rusher. ¾On Monday Night Football (December 10, 1990), there were five Heisman Trophy winners on the field (Det: Barry Sanders and Andre Ware, Oak: Marcus Allen, Tim Brown and Bo Jackson). Sanders finished the game with 176 yards rushing, while Jackson led the Raiders with 129 yards on the ground. ¾The Lions defeated the defending AFC Champion Oakland Raiders on November 2, 2003 at Ford Field, the Raiders’ first trip to Detroit since 1990. ¾DE Dewayne White was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at Oakland (9/9/07) when Detroit scored 16 unanswered points in the final 10:45. After the Lions took a 26-21 lead in the fourth quarter, White intercepted a pass on the ensuing Raiders drive and returned it 28 yards to set up a field goal. On the first play of the next Oakland possession, White recorded a sack-fumble that was recovered by the Lions, which set up a touchdown to seal the win. ¾Trailing 27-14 with 7:47 left in the fourth quarter on December 18, 2011, the Lions completed the 13-point comeback and became the first team in NFL history to record four 13+-point camebacks in a season. The Lions game-winning drive started at the Raiders’ 2-yard line with 2:14 left in the fourth quarter and was completed when QB Matthew Stafford hit WR Calvin Johnson on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 0:39 left to play. ¾QB Matthew Stafford broke the Lions single-season touchdown record with his 33rd touchdown pass of the season at Oakland (12/18/11). He passed QB Scott Mitchell who threw for 32 in 1995. Stafford completed the 2011 season with 41 touchdown passes. ¾WR Calvin Johnson became the first player in franchise history to reach 700 career receptions in a 18-13 win over the Raiders at Ford Field (11/22/15).
