COLORBOX

The plan strives to bridge the gap between the human scale and the urban. A double height plinth relates to the urban experience by means of it’s program and detailing. On top of it sit five separate coloured towers. Their colours refer to the use of colour in Russian architectural tradition. From a distance they provide for recognizability whilst being a beacon in the harsh Russian climate.

At the entrances the colour is continued all the way to ground level, assuring recognizability from nearby too. The transition from the urban domain to the private is softened by locating them on little squares which are cut out of the plinth. They provide shelter while approaching the tower, and at the same time act as attractive urban spaces within the city grid.

The spacious stairwells offer spaces for encounters and encourages the inhabitants to “claim” space. This idea adds meaning to the otherwise mono-cultural space.

The elevated surface on top of the plinth is designed as a collective roofgarden, offering high quality outside space to the inhabitants, in addition to their private loggia’s.
