NATURAL RESOURCES

Page 3: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

DEFINITION: A resource which meets the needs of humans

which is obtained from nature is called as natural resource.

These are classified into biotic & abiotic resources.

BIOTIC RESOURCES: These are living resources which are

replenished.

EX: plants ,animals , forest etc

Page 4: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

ABIOTIC RESOURCES: These are non living resources which are

not able to replenish themselves. EX: minerals , petrol, land etc.

Every individual has responsibility to use natural resources judiciously. This will give equal opportunity to all to use the resources for the benefit of mankind. One should not be selfish to spend the available resources without thinking of other fellow beings.

There is no limit to spend natural resources if available plenty but at the same time one should realize that natural resources are non-renewable sources. The future also depends on such resources. Every individual

Page 7: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

should think himself or herself as a world think himself or himself as a world citizen. The whole world is a family and all are inter-dependant for a better life. The mother earth has given enough for all to satisfy minimum wants but not enough to utilize. Every individual has a role in the conservation of natural resource like in using water electricity woods, foods etc. water is life and every drop is precious

similarly every chemical power saved is like it is produced. Woods should be used so has not to destroy the forest procurement of more food than needed is like putting other starving. Equitable use of resources for sustainable life styles.

Everyone has the right to live in this world. All living creatures belong to mother earth and they all have their shine of resources available. All these resources like land, energy, food, mineral, water, forest etc. have to be distributed in an equitable way for

Page 9: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

sustainable lifestyles of all creatures. The responsibility lies more on the human

population because they have got the thinking power and the wisdom to judge good and had man should realize that

he is not alone in this world. Hence responsibility should be for all human being for an equitable use of natural resources for sustainable use of natural resources for sustainable life styles of all in this mother earth.

CLASSIFICATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES BASED ON THEIR AVAILABILITY:

Natural resources are classified into two types. They are (1)Renewable resources and (2)Non renewable

resources. Renewable resources: Renewable resources are resources that can be produced

naturally 1)The resources that can be renewed by reproduction are

called renewable resources.

Page 11: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

2) Renewable resources are inexhaustible.

3) Renewable resources are not affected by the human activities. 4) All biotic resources are renewable. 5) For example: air and water.

Page 12: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

Non Renewable resources: 1)The resources that are present in fixed

quantities are called non-renewable resources. 2) Non-renewable resources are inexhaustible. 3) Non renewable resources are affected by human activities. 4) Some abiotic resources are non-renewable.

5) For example- fossil fuels and minerals

AFFORESTATION: Afforestation is the establishment of a forest

or stand of trees in an area where there was no forest. Afforestation is the reestablishment of forest cover, either naturally (by natural .

seeding, or root suckers) or artificially (by direct seeding or planting). Many governments and non-governmental organizations directly engage in programs of afforestation to create forests and biodiversity. In some places, forests need help to reestablish themselves because of environmental factors. For example, in arid zones, once forest cover is destroyed, the land may dry and become

Page 16: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

inhospitable to new tree growth. Other factors include overgrazing by livestock, especially animals such as goats, cows, and over

-harvesting of forest resources. Together these may lead to desertification and the loss of topsoil; without soil, forests

Page 17: presentatiion by chatinya krishna

cannot grow until the long process of soil creation has been completed - if erosion

allows this. In some tropical areas, forest cover removal may result in sealing off the soil where water doesn’t penetrates into the soil and there wont be root growth.
