Tourism

• International tourist arrivals reached 1.035 billion in 2012, up from over 983 million in 2011, and 940 million in 2010.

• The tourism economy represents 5 % of global GDP.

• Tourism employs 1 out of every 12 people in advanced and emerging economies.

• 1 job in the core tourism industry creates about 1.5 additional or indirect jobs in the tourism-related economy

• The number of tourist trips is expected to continue to grow for the next decade, with the number of international tourist arrivals expected to reach 1.6 billion by 2020 and attaining 2.6 billion in 2050 (UNWTO)

Tourism Industry in Bangladesh• Generated 1,281,500 jobs in 2012 or 1.8 percent of the country's total

employment (WTTC)

• Direct and indirect employment in the industry totaled 2,714,500 jobs, or 3.7 percent of the country's total employment.

• By 2023, 1,785,000 direct jobs and 3,891,000 indirect jobs or 4.2 percent of the country's total employment is predicted.

• An annual growth rate in direct jobs - 2.9 percent.

• UNWTO forecasts a growth in International tourist arrivals of between 4% and 4.5% in 2014.
