_ Introduction :* The term Environment means the surroundings of an organism.

* The total environment of an organism is the sum total of the biotic and abiotic environments.

* the environment at any place is a combination or sum total of the natural component and the human-made component.

_ What is Environmental Degradation ?

* Environmental degradation is a complex process involving transformation , alteration or material loss from any one of the environmental components .

_ How Environmental Degradation Occurs :

Environmental changes are based on two factors :

( i ) Physical or Natural ( ii ) Human

_ Physical or Natural Environmental Degradation

There are certain natural phenomena which caused environmental degradation . Since these phenomena are natural , man s role is not significant, but at times man accelerates the process.

Nowadays, human beings are the major cause of the deterioration of the environment. We are the ones who degrade the environment directly when we consume the natural resources and indirectly, when we modify and purify the natural resources, waste products are produced, as a result, environment gets degraded.
