INTRODUCTION

Diesel Shed Gonda was established in year 1982 with a small holding of only 22 WDM1 locomotives. In the past 31 years,it has witnessed many technological changes and has emerged one of the major diesel shed for maintenance of BG locomotives.

As on date,Diesel Shed Gonda is homing 160 BG locomotives against the berthing capacity of 130 locos . Diesel Shed is also extending technical assistance to Chhapra Satellite Shed.

Diesel Shed Gonda is also maintaining 140 Ton Crane stabled at GKP.

Classification of locomotives

The Classification of Locomotives of Indian Railways consists of 3 alphabets

which indicate the specific charecteristics followed by numerical subscript

such as :

1 . The first letter denote the guage for which locomotive is designed .

W stands for WIDE GUAGE i.e Broad Guage Y stands for METER GUAGE N stands for NARROW GUAGE 2 . The second letter stands for the source of energy. D for DIESEL TRACTION A for AC TRACTION

3 . The third alphabet indicate the type of service the loco is designed for

P stands for PASSENGER SERVICE G stands for GOODS SERVICE

S stand for SHUNTING i.e the locomtive can be used for Shunting Purpose

only and cannot be used in the Main line .

The numerical digit indicates the HORSE POWER or MODIFICATION . As a thumb rule Higher the digit higher the HORSE POWER Sometimes these are alphabets in Subscripts A alphabet indicates locomotives can work with both Vaccum and Air

Brake Coaches/Wagons B alphabet indicates locomotives can work only with Air Brake

Coaches C alphabet indicates Fabricated Bogie D alphabet indicates 3100/3300 HP locomotive or the Loco has both

sides Driving Cabin termed as “DUAL CAB”

SFC RECORDER

Computerized SFC Recorder is an important instrument for measuring SFC of locomotives . SFC is an Important factor for calculating the performance of locomotives which is based on temperature , correctionfactor with altitudes and following parameters such as TG voltage andCurrent and Engine Shaft Horse Power.

MICROCONTROLLER BASED GOVERNOR TEST STAND

MCBG is used to control the RPM of Diesel Engine.

Following main operation of the MCBG is checked on this test stand

• Dry Run testing with the help of dry run push button of the control unit and to control the fuel rack movement in configuration mode as per requirement with changing of parameters.

• Checking of auto callibration of actual unit as per configuration.

Bogie frame manipulator

Previously Bogie Frame and Linear Welding Work require for Bogie Maintenance of Diesel Electric Loco was being done by Over Headwelding . This method was labour intensive and very time consumingand it also effects the bogie frame welding . Now by using shed ’sinternal sources , Bogie Frame Manipulator has been prepared sothe work is done with lesser time and improved quality.

LUBE OIL PUMP GEAR HYDRAULIC PULLER

Previously Gear of Lube Oil Pump was removed by locally heating the gear & with the help of locally made tool , in which more time and man power were wasted . Now a days Hydraulic Puller is used for removing the gear to save the man power & time.

GAUGE COMPARATOR UNIT

There was no any arrangement in Diesel Shed Gonda to check the accuracy/calibration of Anolog gauge. Due to improper calibration of gauge so many disputes occurred in loco during operations . To avoid these troubles 1 Gauge Comprator Unit has been developed Diesel Shed Gonda with its own limited resource. After developing of this unit all gauges of loco are being successfully calibrated.

SHOCK PULSE METER

There was no any arrangement available in Diesel Shed Gonda for checking of any internal defect of CE & PE roller bearings of T/M during overhauling of the assembly.A Shock Pulse Meter is commissioned and is being used for checking of health of roller bearings of T/M and giving positive result.

OUTBOARD HOUSING BUS PULLER

As per RDSO instruction bulletin an out board housing bush extractor (puller) has been developed in Diesel Shed Gonda with its own limited resources . By using this gadget Out Board Housing Bush is being easily changed in position with less man power and in very short time period .
