Some EHSI issues

• To meet planning guidelines MUST be 41/2 to 6 storey in height.

• BUT, building of this height (at 2500m2) is inefficient.

• Critical mass of building not optimal for impact

Hothouse Incubation Centre Funding?• Enterprise Ireland funding for an Incubator Centre

possible. Hothouse relocation

• Combining Incubator and EHSI – economy of scale, better use of research space, raises profile of both facilities

• Notification of funding before Christmas

• Proceed to design on basis of joint building

EHSI/Hothouse Combined Building

UL Tierney Building combines Incubation Centre with Research Spaces

•Similar Centres elsewhere in Ireland: Tierney Building in UL latest example.

•Enterprise Ireland Funding

•Preliminary Costs ca 4.5 million for Incubator (HH)

•Total Area (Hothouse &EHSI): ca 4,600 m2

Advantages of a Combined BuildingOverall this is a very positive development:

• Larger building is more efficient to design • Cost of incubation lower than separate build.• Positive impact in contribution to local area.• Building a critical mass on campus• Improve research ->innovation pipeline• Engagement with industry/synergy
