How did you represent social groups?

My Social Group

• The social group that I intended to represent with my product was the ‘young alts’. They are defined as the Tribe for young people who ‘want out’ of the mainstream. It’s an entry-level Tribe, with equal split between the sexes, and members share an inquisitiveness for everything Alternative – from Grunge to Hardcore. This group of people are normally represented by magazines such as ‘Kerrang’ and ‘Rocksound’. The music they are interested in is 'Pop punk' music meaning that they like music such as

Appearance• The clothes which my social group wear most

often are Black Skinny Jeans and Printed Band T-shirts. The girls within this group are also often seen wearing bold black eyeliner. People within the ‘young alts’ group tend to take care of their appearance most of the time.

How have I represented this social group in my product?

I have represented my social group with themodels which I chose to feature on the cover of my magazine. This represents my social group because they are of a similar age to the people who are in the ‘young alt’ social group meaning that it would show audiences what the people in the group are like and how they appear.

I also represented the social group with the costumes my models wore. This is representing the group because they are wearing the kind of clothes which people who are in the social group would wear.

Another way I represented my social group is through the use of my color scheme. By using a bright color like Yellow I have represented the fact that my chosen social group are often at parties and having fun. However the Red and Black represent the more serious dark side of the group.

The images which I used throughout my magazine also help to represent my social group. This is because it shows them in groups getting along and having fun. However there is also photos in which the models are quite serious, which shows the more serious side of the social group.

The color which I have used for the background on my contents page also represents my social group because it is a bright, lively color.

The costumes of my models on my Double Page Spread also help to represent my social group because, although they aren’t black like what is often related with ‘Young Alts’ they are still quite different and alternative. They are also not what you would expect to see in mainstream groups.
