TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents, Theatre encompasses different modalities of expression, ranging from musicals, mimes to pure acting. At JBCN, the endeavour is to give our learners an opportunity to experience all genres of theatre and involve themselves in every aspect of putting together a show. Mamma Mia is an absolutely delightful musical, with a deep message of love between a mother and daughter, between friends and about nding yourself. ABBA's songs will take you back to your teen years and remind you of young passion and adventure. Musicals show us that a song is as powerful as a dialogue, when you listen and understand music, it speaks to you. Our performers are in their secondary years in school. A time for transition, for choices and a time to build long lasting bonds. The rehearsals have enabled them to interact with learners from different grades and moved them out of their comfort zone - this has been their learning. Learning is not always about what we can see, but often about how it shapes our personalities so that we are able to go out and face the world. Cocurricular activities do just that – they give children condence, independence and the courage to explore. After all today's learners are tommorow's leaders. But for today... let our learners take you down memory lane through foot tapping music and dance. Regards, Pinky Dalal Kunal DalalHemali Dalal
Note from the Board Members
As a Principal I watched the students enjoy every aspect of Mamma Mia and as an adult the themes and the lessons we learn from the actions that the characters portray are universal.
I hope you will be moved by the story that you witness as it revolves around love, secrets, friendship and family….so without hesitation Mamma Mia here we go again!

After much deliberation and brainstorming to decide on a production that would do justice to being put up as a Secondary school concert, we thought- Why not a musical jukebox like Mamma Mia!?After all, it makes for an exciting escape to a Greek island lled with comedy, drama and fun with the iconic soundtrack of ABBA songs! The music of ABBA has been one, that we in our generation grew up on! But, there was a nagging doubt in our minds whether it would still be as charming for today's Eminem and Taylor Swift generation?Well, any doubts that festered in our minds were dispelled the moment we started work on the production. We can say with absolute assurance that the learners and us too, had a blast and it has been a great journey, be it the recording, the dancing, the singing or the acting. After all whether you’re a fan of Abba or not, their music and lyrics tie-in so perfectly with this story, it’s hard not to love it, irrespective of the generation that one belongs to! During the course of our rehearsals with the learners it has been our endeavor to try and involve the learners not only on the stage but also to use their strengths with the production of the show with prop making, photography & graphic design to name a few.The idea has been to present the show as being, “Of the learners, By the learners and For the learners!”
Director’s Note
Mamma Mia! is one of those musicals that is all about stressing the importance of family and relationships. And of course in today's day and age, one can't stress enough, on the importance of these aspects! Set against the backdrop of spectacular Greece, Mamma Mia is a story that was relevant yesterday, is relevant today and will always continue to be relevant in the years to come! So, join us for Sophie and Sky's wedding on the beautiful Greek Island of Santorini, where you can put on your dancing shoes and groove along, to the ABBA chart busters. We are sure you will sign off with just two words at the end of this concert. Mamma Mia!!! Theatrically yours, Jiji Subi and Vishaal Asrani(Directors - Vishaal Asrani’s Institute Of Performing Arts)
Preparing for the Annual Concert has been quite an exciting experience. Everything, right from the hilarious jokes; to interesting choreographies was boat loads of fun. We started with basic moves and people tripping, but ended up with a decently polished act. Jiji Sir, Vishaal Sir and Ms Manori have had to put in a lot of effort - especially dealing with us!
Working along with Jiji Sir, Vishaal Sir and Ms Manori has been a real treat. When we started practicing, almost everyone had two left feet. Now, however, it's safe to say that most of us are well versed in the art of dance. We have synchronized our dance moves down to the last detail and are able to simultaneously glide to the songs sung by Abba.
Whether dancing, singing or acting, each one of us has evolved with the help of Vishaal Sir and Jiji Sir. From the vibrant costumes to the peppy ABBA songs, Jiji and Vishaal sir have taught us school can actually be fun.
Mamma Mia is a fun, lively theme and I am sure that our brilliantly talented Vishaal Sir & Jiji Sir will make all our efforts come alive on the stage. I usually don't enjoy dancing but this is the rst time ever I am really enjoying it. I am super excited to rock the stage and perform in front of my parents. I can already bet that we are going to be performing the best annual concert ever seen in JBCN!
I am really happy that I got to be part of “Dancing Queen”. The song is amazing and learning the choreography was cool too! My passion is dance and I can't wait to be on stage. MAMMA MIA is my favorite movie and I am honoured that I got to be part of it.
Memorable Moments!
This is the rst time I am going to perform in this school. I love the song “Dancing Queen”. We shall rock the show.
This has been one of my best experiences in JBCN so far. Everything is going smoothly and in an organized manner. I like the planning & execution. The dance choreography is superb. I am very keen to perform in front of my parents.
The MAMMA MIA show is going to be fabulous. I am in the main dance “Voulez-vous” which is a very nice and joyful. I am meeting new people in my dance and I have a lot of fun with them. I can't wait to perform in front of my parents.
I am very excited to see our hard work up on the stage as we have put or heart and sweat into it. I like the theme very much and I am sure that my parents are going to be very happy to see me on stage. I appreciate the way Jiji sir & Vishaal Sir involved me in the play inspite of my leg injury and the efforts they have taken to put up such a wonderful concert.
This is the rst time I am performing on a dance number. I am exploring a different part of me and I am amazed at my skills. I am also excited for the nal day and showcasing my skills before my parents.
I loved the costume, the songs and the unique dances. It is the rst time I will be performing on stage. Excitement, fun, laughter and more!
Last year we did not have dances in our annul day but this year we do and I like it. I love the choreography. Thank you Jiji and Vishaal sir.The practices for Mamma Mia made me smile a lot every day. Working with Jiji and Vishaal sir has been one of my best experiences. They excel in what they do. We shall rock it on d-day.
I love these practices and every day I look forward to our rehearsals.
MAMMA MIA is an amazing play. Especially, the dances like MAMMA MIA, MONEY MONEY etc are superb. I love the way Vishaal Sir, Jiji Sir & Miss Manori are helping us to reach the level of perfection we should. Kudos to all of us.
Mamma Mia is fun! I have become more condent and have developed my personality after we started doing the practices. My dancing skills have improved. All credit goes to Vishaal Sir and Jiji Sir.
The Mamma Mia practice, so far, has been amazing! It gave me a chance to express myself through the auditions. I have got to know the Grade 8 learners better. I enjoy dancing and when Ms Manori praises me, I feel so happy. During the practice, I also get a chance to be with my friends who are in the other division.
I have learnt new and amazing dances from Jiji Sir and Ms Manori. Initially I felt a bit odd, dancing, but with a little help from Ms Manori and Jiji Sir, I now enjoy dancing. I love the song Dancing Queen.
After watching my younger sister perform at the Primary Annual Day, I am very excited about ours. We have great fun dancing on the amazing song Dancing Queen, though Voulez Vous is my favourite. This show has given us a chance to showcase our talents and I enjoyed interacting with the other grade learners.
My practice for Mamma Mia till now has been a wonderful journey. I have been selected in dance and during practice I got a chance to get to know other grade learners. The practice sessions with Jiji sir and Ms Manori were great fun. I loved the choreography and the songs are lovely.
I have always loved Theatre Arts and look forward to this time of the year. I was very keen on acting, but unfortunately I wasn't selected. Later on, when I was selected for Voulez vous, I was overjoyed. I have enjoyed the practice sessions.
Though staying back after school was tiring, we had a lot of fun. Once we laughed so much during practice that I fell off the table and could not stop laughing! The recording was fun too. This year's annual day has been very interesting.
I loved the organized scatter on stage and also our dance steps.
Initially our dance was okay, then Jiji Sir changed our steps and now our dance is awesome.
My memorable moment was when Vishaal Sir changed our dance steps and brought in formations and made it look so cool. We get to be in different positions of the stage. We are tired some days, but we will miss it once we are done with it.
