Presidential Message Dear colleagues and clinic owners:

Hope you have all had a great start to the year. It is my privilege to continue to serve the public and I appreciate the opportunity to serve as the President of the Board this year. I am in the final year of my current term on the Board and I can honestly say that in my soon to be sixteen years of service I have seen many obstacles overcome and many changes to the profession and the Board. Welcome to our new Consumer Member John Segrest and thanks to Governor Kay Ivey for his appointment. He brings years of experience from his work in the Examiners of Public Accounts office and is well known in state government. John has already shown his knowledge of our Board and will be an asset in operations and compliance. He is a chiropractic patient and will do well in representing the consumers of Alabama. I believe the Board is moving in the right direction to fulfil its mission to protect the health, safety and welfare of people of Alabama through regulation and li-censure of doctors of chiropractic and permitting of non-licensed owners. Many things are included in this, such as attending annual Board member training to be sure all members understand the required processes a state agency must

New Face on the Board

Welcome to our new Consumer Board Member, Mr. John Segrest.

Short bio from Mr. Segrest— I am a Military Brat and a veteran myself. I was born in Cheyenne Wyoming while my Dad was stationed at F. E. War-ren AFB. I am the oldest of five brothers. My wife and I have 4 children the youngest is 17. As a veteran I served four years of active duty in the Air Force and 18 years in the Air National Guard. I am a graduate of Troy State University in Montgomery with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration with major course work in Accounting. I also worked for the State of Alabama for 38 years, the last 30 for the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts where I performed, supervised and later directed audits and sunset reviews of State agencies. I am also a consumer of chiro-practic services and see my appointment to the Board as a unique opportunity to continue my service to the citizens of the State of Alabama.

Positive Comment ...I just wanted to tell you thank you for all the work you do. I know you all get the calls of frus-

tration, endless questions and complaints, but I know you’re the reason I get to do what I love.

Dr. Jenni

Presidential Message Continued:

follow, filing of annual SEI forms, review of continuing education courses, review of applications and complaint investi-gations and hearings.

The Board must negotiate contracts for some services required for functions of the Board. I can say we have some of the best people in the country such as our Wellness Director and Legal Counsel. We also have a great staff that works hard to stay on top of the day to day requirements in operating the Board office. Many of you know that when you call a board in another state it is rare that you reach a real person not a recording where you must leave a message.

To be sure the Board is current we send a delegate to the FCLB annual convention and a member to District V meetings. Recently Drs. Lowman and Wells participated in an Ethics and Boundaries Assessment workshop in Greeley, CO. Members participate in NBCE Part IV workshops and in administering the Part IV examination across the country.

There is a lot of work in serving on the Board and it’s not all fun. It is essential for each board member to represent the public. Board members do not represent the profession, nor any other private group. As a member of the Board sometimes it’s hard to put aside personal views and opinions and make tough decisions that uphold the Law and the Rules for the protection of the public.

The Board continues to work on records conversion and to back up to offsite secure locations. To reiterate Dr. Lowman, we still do not foresee any increase in license renewal fees will be necessary for at least 4-5 more years.

The Board will continue to work with the State Associations in the upcoming year on a review of the Chiropractic Prac-tice Act. All licensees are invited to these Roundtable discussions sponsored by the Board. We try to meet in various locations, so all can be there. Greg Kuhlmann, DC
