Primary Co-curricular

Students at Matthew Flinders Anglican College have access to a varied and interesting range of activities, which we believe affords them the opportunity of a well-rounded educational experience. They can consolidate and extend the creative, academic and physical talents they possess, practising leadership and using initiative.

Our enviable co-curricular program holds interest beyond the sporting field, with students able to find a niche wherever their interests lie. Included in the array of activities is an extensive Arts and Music program, an active debating and chess program to sharpen the mind and develop communication skills, cutting-edge technology-based activities for the digitally inclined and a number of community based programs for those who want to make a difference.

We encourage our students to discover their talents to enable them to be the best person they can be. Our co-curricular program, with its education, social and physical values and the emphasis on inclusion and fun, ensures the expression of potential capacities of each student, giving them a chance to truly shine.

The following list of co-curricular activities are currently available in the Primary School. Activities are subject to change and parents are advised what is on offer at the start of each school year.

Music

Co-curricular Music in the Primary School gives students who are learning an instrument or have an enjoyment of singing, the opportunity to be involved in group music making. All groups rehearse before school and are available at no charge to parents.

The main requirement for joining Flinders Choir (Years 4-6) and Junior Primary Choir (Years 1-3) is an enjoyment of singing. Flinders Voices is an auditioned group for students in Years 5 and 6 – students and parents are notified of the audition process in Term 4 preceding the year ofeligibility.

Students who join the Flinders Band (Years 3-6) and Flinders String Orchestra (Years 3-6) do so on the advice of their Studio Teacher after individual studio lessons have commenced. Poco Strings (Years P-3) is a beginner group and an invitation to join is given after lessons are commenced. Poco Strings is a precursor to Flinders String Orchestra.
