SIMS Health Check The SIMS Health Check is a complete review of how your system is currently being used, finding out who uses it and to what degree. The result is a comprehensive written report detailing our findings, as well as making suggestions on different ways to use SIMS with a view to making SIMS work harder for you, gaining time and efficiencies.

The training will be focussed around the Ofsted inspection handbook including looking at ways of using SIMS and Discover to effectively monitor attendance. Staff interested in analysing data from SIMS using Discover’s built-in graphs. No previous experience of Discover is necessary but an understanding of the data held in SIMS would be advantageous. Why attend this course: To learn how to use a range of graphs and how to create new ones by combining elements from separate pre-defined graphs.

Why attend this course: To explore the user defined assessment functionality of Discover for users of SIMS Assessment.

Early Years Tracking and SIMS Following the implementation of the revised Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) in 2012, Capita has provided a range of SIMS tracking resources to support schools with the recording and analysing of Nursery and Reception year pupil data. This course introduces the new EYFS templates which can be used from Nursery to the end of Reception. The templates enable easier data entry and comprehensive data analysis. Who is it for? This course is suitable for Class Teachers, Teaching Assistants, members of Senior Management Team and Assessment Co-ordinators. Delegates should have an understanding of the current assessment requirements in the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. No prior experience of SIMS Assessment is required. Extended Reporting This course further develops the reporting techniques covered in Standard Reporting. It enables producing more complex lists and mail merged documents; Modifying templates to adjust the appearance of reports; developing the use of RTF output exploring cross -modular links in data; using different focuses as the starting point for reports; exploring the use of macros in Excel related reports and extending the use of the Analysis tool. Who is it for? This course is for delegates who would like to extend on their reporting skills and knowledge obtained through the Standard Reporting course. Delegates should be able to create basic reports which can be output to standard lists or Word mailmerges and have used SIMS Analysis and other output types. Why attend this course: To further develop the reporting techniques covered in Standard Reporting. What you will learn:

Interesting Ideas Using iPads With over 500,000 apps available for the iPad, it is impossible to know about every one and, more importantly, which apps are suitable for use in your classroom. This course covers the process of recording the statutory results in SIMS, using the Key Stage Wizards. It will address Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 (including Year 1 Phonics Screening) and Key Stage 2. The creation of reports and the exporting and uploading of results via a Common Transfer Form (CTF) will also be covered. Who is it for? Staff who have responsibility for producing the Key Stage Return and who have a working knowledge of SIMS. Why attend this course: To learn how to produce accurate Key Stage Entry returns. What you will learn:

This course aims to demonstrate useful ways of using SIMS to create, labels, letters and certificates saving you valuable time. Who is it for? Staff responsible for communicating with parents. Why attend this course: To learn useful ways of using SIMS to create, labels, letters and certificates What you will learn:

Create and print labels

Create Attendance letters

Management of Behaviour and Achievement This course gives a complete overview of the SIMS Behaviour Management area which a school can use to record, monitor and manage its pupils’ behaviour and achievements including detentions and the use of report cards. Who is it for? Delegates who wish to know how to set up and administer the Behaviour and Achievement module. A familiarity with the pupil data held in SIMS would be helpful but it is more important to know the way in which behaviour and achievement incidents are currently recorded, reported and analysed within the school. Why attend this course: Behaviour has a direct impact on a pupil’s attainment. Understand how to make the best use of SIMS Behaviour Management. What you will learn:

Who is it for? This course enables users to work with MS Excel (2010) without having any prior knowledge of Excel. Why attend this course: It will equip you with the skills to sort data, create and use basic cell formulae to perform calculations and will look at basic data sorting including the use of filters. The course uses real life examples from schools to create functional spreadsheets that can be used back in your school office. What you will learn:

Microsoft Word Who is it for? This course enables users to work with MS Word (2013) without having any prior knowledge of Word. Why attend this course: This course investigates the ‘new look’ menus, and prepares delegates to navigate Microsoft Office Word 2013 software at an essential level. Delegates will work through some school-based scenarios using the product; learn to navigate through the programme and to use its key features. What you will learn:

Accomplish everyday tasks such as creating a new document, editing existing documents and formatting documents using pre-defined styles

It is a statutory requirement to complete and return a SWC November. The success of the data collection relies on the presence and the accuracy of staff data held in SIMS as the collected information will be used by other agencies for a variety of purposes. There are many stages in which staff data is checked, validated and corrected where applicable, before submission.

Who is it for? Knowledge of SIMS Personnel is essential. The ability to use Reporting within SIMS would be beneficial but not necessary. Schools are advised to send the appropriate person(s).

Teaching Computing using Unplugged Activities Unplugged lessons are activities that teach the concepts of Computer Science through engaging games and puzzles and without the use of a computer. They are ideal for a variety of locations and are not restricted to having the right hardware or software. Who is it for? Teachers and teaching assistants What you will learn:

Using Google Apps and other Collaborative Tools in the Classroom The internet has provided us with a fantastic array of resources to support teaching & learning, not just in the classroom, but anywhere with an internet connection. Now that many schools are using a range of mobile devices to access the internet, we can make greater use of these online tools. This course will look at a variety of websites and apps for working collaboratively to plan, provide feedback and work together in different geographical locations on a shared goal.

Collaborative Service Working in collaboration with schools ICT Network Manager or ICT Technician, providing enhanced ICT support for schools essential administration ICT systems including MIS (Capita SIMS). The collaborative support service offers hardware and software support for school audited administrative server(s) and all office computers. Essential administration ICT systems are supported with this service. Access to these systems is available throughout the year providing peace of mind and back up to schools ICT Network Manager or ICT Technician along the way.

MIS Support Provides unlimited telephone and email user support for MIS (Capita SIMS). Remote support is provided for MIS on your server and for one MIS workstation (Capita SIMS and FMS). The service is designed for schools that already have their own full time, ICT Network Manager, ICT technician or ICT support provider. Initial technical advice will be given to your ICT technical team, with any further technical support or on-site visits arranged on a pay-as-you-use (PAYU) basis.

Remote backup and monitoring This service protects school’s data by backing it up securely to two ICT data centres at East Sussex County Council. It allows for the restoration of data from a single file to the full server. The use of the Remote backup service for schools (RBUSS) is a vital cog in a school's disaster recovery and service continuity plans.
