I would like to share some updates for November. First, final grades are due November 10 th . Please remind students to turn in all late work as soon as possible for grading. Teachers will be scheduling conferences before Thanksgiving for all students to discuss progress. Second, the Bulldog “Dream” culture focus for November will be Excellence. Students will receive an assembly teaching them the importance of showing excellence in the classroom and teachers will recognize students showing those characteristics. Third, the Redwood City Police have expressed concern during pickup and drop-off on James Street. People picking up their children must stay in their vehicles in the loading and pickup zones, as police have been issuing tickets. Also, to try to lesson the traffic on James Street, police are no longer allowing vehicles to line up outside the loading and pickup area. You have to circle around until there is an opening in the loading and pick-up area. Separately, please urge students to use the crosswalks and refrain from having them cross in the center of Duane. Lastly, lets wish our 8 th grade students a fun, safe trip to Yosemite!! Principal Fanourgiakis Halloween Dance Thank you so much to all the parents who donated items for the dance. Our students had lots of fun. Thank you!! Report Cards Go Home with Students The 1 st Trimester is coming to an end and report cards will be sent home on November 16 th . Please take some time to review your child’s report card. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers. Parent Information Night Parents and other family members of incoming 6 th grade students are invited to the MIT Parent Information Night. It will be held on November 16 th from 6:00-7:00pm in our school’s auditorium. Parent Tours Parents are invited to school tours Fridays in November and December. All tours will begin at 9:00am. Our tours will give you the opportunity to meet administrators, observe classes, and get a feel for the campus. Parents who are interested in attending one of the tours will need to call the office to make an appointment. School of Choice Applications This year’s School of Choice open enrollment period began on November 5 th and it will end on December 22 nd . If you know anybody please pass on this information so they can apply to come to us. Travel Plans? Students missing 5 or more days of school due to family trips can request an Independent Study Contract from the office. We can prepare work for the student to complete while they are gone -- this way they can keep up on assignments and the school can count them in attendance (ADA money). Please give Anna or Annette a call in the office, at least two weeks notice to prepare the contract and get the work collected before the student’s departure date. Mensaje del Director Estimadas Familias de McKinley, Espero que todo este bien y que tengan un divertido y seguro Día de Brujas. También me gustaría compartir algunas fechas para noviembre. Primero, las calificaciones del primer trimestre tienen que entregarse el día 10 de noviembre por favor recuérdenle a sus estudiantes entregar todos sus tareas lo antes posible para que obtengan buenas calificaciones. Los maestros tendrán conferencias antes del Día de Acción de Gracias para hablar sobre el progreso de todos los estudiantes. Segundo, el mensaje de nuestra escuela “Bulldog Dream” se enfocara el mes de noviembre en la Excelencia. Los estudiantes recibirán una asamblea enseñándoles la importancia de mostrar excelencia en el salón y los maestros reconocerán a los estudiantes mostrando estas características. Tercero la policía de Redwood City ha expresado preocupación durante el tiempo de dejar y recoger a los estudiantes en la calle James. Las personas tienen que quedarse en sus automóviles en el área de dejar y recoger ya que la policía ha estado dando multas si dejan su carro solo. Tienen que dar vueltas hasta que se abra un lugar en el área de dejar y recoger. También por favor dígale a sus estudiantes que usen el área de peatones para cruzar la calle y no tratar de cruzar en medio de la calle Duane. Por ultimo, queremos desearles a los estudiantes de 8º grado un viaje seguro al Parque Yosemite!! Espero que todos tengamos un buen mes. Tarjetas de Calificaciones Ya se acerca el final del 1er Trimestre y las tarjetas de calificaciones se enviaran a casa el 16 de noviembre. Por favor tome tiempo de revisarla con sus hijos y no dude en hablar con los maestros de sus hijos con cualquier pregunta o preocupación. Noche de Información para Padres Los padres y miembros de familia de estudiantes que entraran al 6º grado están invitados para la Noche de Información para Padres de MIT. Se llevara a cabo el 16 de Noviembre de 6:00 a 7:00p.m. en el auditorio de la escuela. Tours para los Padres Los padres están invitados a visitar la escuela los viernes en noviembre y diciembre a las 9am. Nuestros tours le dará la oportunidad de conocer a los administradores, observar las clases y tener una idea de la escuela. Los padres que estén interesados en asistir a uno de los recorridos deben llamar a la oficina para hacer una cita. Aplicaciones de las Escuelas de Elección Este año del período de inscripción abierta en las escuelas de elección comenzara el 5 de noviembre y finalizará el 22 de diciembre. Este nuevo plazo dará a las familias más tiempo para completar y presentar solicitudes.

¿Tiene planes para viajar? Estudiantes que falten 5 o mas días de escuela por viajes familiares pueden pedir un Contrato de Estudios Independientes en la oficina. Podemos preparar trabajo para que el estudiante complete mientras están fuera – de esta manera ellos pueden hacer sus trabajos y la escuela puede contarlos en su asistencia. (Dinero ADA). Por favor llame a Anna o Annette en la oficina por lo menos dos semanas de anticipación para preparar el contrato y colectar el trabajo antes de que el estudiante se vaya.
