Principals Pen What a busy and enjoyable fortnight we have had! Almost all our classes have been involved in special events including sports carnivals, fesvals, radio performances and first aid classes. On Friday, to finish off an acon packed fortnight, we all had a blast in the P&C Colour Run. These events are carefully planned by our teachers and school community members to give our students the chance to shine in a variety of arenas and we love sharing their successes in this newsleer. Meanwhile, back in classrooms, teachers are busily wring end of semester reports ready to be disseminated at the end of this term. The grades students have been allocated, parcularly in literacy and numeracy, are the result of rigorous assessment and teacher moderaon. Moderaon takes place between groups of teachers from each learning phase and involves them comparing each individual student s work to an agreed naonal standard. This is a lengthy process, but one that allows teachers to agree on what standard is required for each grade, thereby ensuring consistency across the school. Should you have any concerns regarding reports, please contact your childs teacher. Reports will be emailed on Tuesday the 2nd of July. IMPORTANT: Please remember to either print off your children s reports or save them to your document files, as soon as received. The report link will disappear aſter 4 weeks and you will not be able to access your childrens reports aſter that. Newsleer 10 | 2019

Principal’s Pen

What a busy and enjoyable fortnight we have had! Almost all our classes have been

involved in special events including sports carnivals, festivals, radio performances and

first aid classes. On Friday, to finish off an action packed fortnight, we all had a blast in

the P&C Colour Run. These events are carefully planned by our teachers and school

community members to give our students the chance to shine in a variety of arenas

and we love sharing their successes in this newsletter.

Meanwhile, back in classrooms, teachers are busily writing end of semester reports

ready to be disseminated at the end of this term. The grades students have been

allocated, particularly in literacy and numeracy, are the result of rigorous assessment

and teacher moderation. Moderation takes place between groups of teachers from

each learning phase and involves them comparing each individual student’s work to

an agreed national standard. This is a lengthy process, but one that allows teachers to

agree on what standard is required for each grade, thereby ensuring consistency

across the school. Should you have any concerns regarding reports, please contact

your child’s teacher. Reports will be emailed on Tuesday the 2nd of July.

IMPORTANT: Please remember to either print off your children’s reports or save

them to your document files, as soon as received. The report link will disappear after

4 weeks and you will not be able to access your children’s reports after that.

MERAKI SCHOOL FESTIVAL

Last Wednesday, our Year 6 class performed in the Meraki School Festival. In front of a huge audience at the Perth Convention Centre, the Year 6 students danced to the James Bond classic, ‘A View to a Kill’. The performance was very entertaining and polished and at the end of the night we were extremely proud when Goollelal Primary was awarded the Sportsmanship Award. I would like to thank Mrs Tarr for all her hard work in choreographing the performance and organising the event. Thank you to Mrs Woodworth and Mrs Sanderson for helping Mrs Tarr with the supervision of our students and to the parents who helped with transporting them to and from the rehearsal and on the night.

WA FOOTBALL COMMISSION- WRITING COMPETITION WINNER

The WA Football Commission (WAFC) runs an annual competition for all Western Australian primary school students from Year 3 to Year 6. We had a number of entries from our school and were very excited when it was announced that the Year 6 category was won by Juliette Partis. Juliette was presented with an Eagles backpack and jumper at Friday’s assembly. Congratulations Juliette!

RADIO 89.7 SCHOOL OF THOUGHT

Last week Miss Pallett took our talented Year 5 students to ECU Joondalup to host the radio 89.7 ‘School of Thought’ program. The students talked about a variety of subjects including Canada, AFL, Optus Stadium and the art of interviewing. They also performed some of their own narratives and poems. Thank you to Councillor John Logan for inviting the Year 5 class to take part in his program.

FIRST AID FOCUS

Thank you to Mrs Harvey for organising the St John Ambulance, First Aid Focus incursion for all our students. These first aid lessons are an invaluable resource and teach our students the actions to take in the event of a medical emergency.

Colour Run

Who would think that it would be so fun creating a haze of colour, on a picture

perfect day, squirting children with coloured powder? Actually it didn’t entirely go

like that! The kids and some of the parents managed a little payback and the staff

were as ‘coloured’ as the kids by the time it was over. We also made a little magic

at the end with the whole school shooting colour into the air at the same time!

What a fabulous photo it made. Thanks so much to our delightful kids, parents and

staff for their good humour, sense of fun and participation at this special

community event!

I would like to thank the P&C, most particularly Em Lauffer for her part in the

organisation and also our dedicated staff, Diana Zaffino, Sandra Atkinson, Vanessa

Anderson and Geoff Rintoul! The staff set about organising the coloured powered

(largely cornstarch) and the balloons which looked fabulous in an endeavour to

significantly reduce overheads. The huge ‘balls’ of balloons added to the visual

effect and served as the colour stations. The senior students even made some of

the powder as a scientific experiment!

We are also extremely grateful to Amy Marshall, one of our lovely mums, for taking

sensational professional photos for us. Amy has her own business, Amy Button

Loves You Photography, and we are grateful to her for attending and providing

stunning photos for us. Amy has given us permission to use them. Please see the

details about downloading the photos from the link below using the PIN 9262.

Thank you also to Kate Dali and many other parents who took some lovey photos of

the event. It is the most amazing memorabilia for the school.

Special thanks, as ever to the Goollelal community for taking the time to raise

money for the Colour Run, to support our school. The money will be put to good

use to buy things that our budget does not stretch to.

First Responder App

Recently at a First Aid course I learned about the First Responder App available in

the App store for free. It is relatively new, but I want to spread the word because it

has some fabulous features. The app allows you to dial 000. If you need to ring 000

and use the app, the emergency services can find your exact location using GPS

coordinates. If you just use a phone, unless you can give an exact location, they

take an approximate reading from the nearest mobile towers. If you are in the bush

or beach the exact location is extremely helpful. It has many other features too,

including a lot of first aid information and a metronome for the delivery of CPR.

Lightning Carnival

Last Wednesday, with bad weather looming, the skies held, and the Lightning Carnival thankfully went ahead as planned and the children had a wonderful day of football, netball and soccer. As ever the sportsmanship demonstrated by our children was exemplary. Thank you to all the staff for the organisation and especially to Mr Knight who held the fort at Football.

TA5’s Gorgeous Assembly

Last Friday’s assembly from TA5 was so delightful. Our Year One’s delighted us with a poem, songs and dancing to a funky frog song. The children and staff looked gorgeous with their frog masks and they had a beautiful display of their work on the boards behind them. Thank you Mrs Ivey and Mrs Leeson for the many hours of polish and practice to entertain the assembly.
