The playground has been inspected and has been idenfied as a safety hazard. I am currently working with the School Advisory Council and P&F to evaluate all the opons available to us, taking into account finances, available resources and me. To assist in making an informed decision, I am currently liaising with the students from Years One to Six, gathering their insights and opinion. To date, I have visited a couple of classrooms and I am very proud of the way the students are providing me with considered feedback, thoughts and opinions. CEWA Every Child Counts For more than 175 years, Catholic schools in Western Australia have helped prepare, educate and shape our leaders and citizens. As a vital education partner for the State Government, we provide education for 77 000 WA students, in more than 160 schools, representing one in six primary students and one in four secondary students. required to borrow books.

LIBRARY DAYS Wednesdays - PP, Year 2, Year 4 Thursdays - Year 1, Year 3, Year 5, Year 6

WEEKLY NEWS Battle of the Return Books Each year group competes weekly to have the least number of overdue books, with the winning class displaying the St John’s School library trophy for the week. At the end of the term, the class with the most weekly wins will receive a special surprise and bragging rights as the winner of the Return Books Battle. Last week’s winner was YEAR 6 and YEAR 4! Thank you, Year 6 and 4, for working together to return your library books on time. Library Open at Lunch on Wednesday and

Thursday

The Library is open during lunch on

Wednesday and Thursday. So, pop on in

and read a book, colour in a picture or play

a board game with a friend. Our lovely

Year Six volunteers are also available to

read a book to you.

The 2021 Randolph Stow Young Writers Award There are roughly four weeks until the City of Greater Geraldton Regional Library’s writing competition closes. Information and entry forms are available in our library. The competition will run until 3 July and divided into two categories: poetry and prose. I look forward to reading the entries as they arrive. Please encourage your children to enter as we have some wonderfully creative writers at St John’s School, and we would love to show the Geraldton community what they can do.

Principal’s Notes Fogarty Update Last week, Mrs Emma Pollard, Mr Brett Love and I were in Perth for the next part of our work with Fogarty EDvance. On Day One, we covered a range of objectives including how our organisational health can drive better student outcomes, the role of leaders to influence and sustain change, an examination of current teaching and learning practices in our schools, high impact change levers and continued work on our strategic planning document. Over the course of Day Two, we reflected on effective communication, discussion, leading instructional change and initiatives to support our organisation health. In the very near future, we will be sharing our strategic planning document with staff, students and the school community. Good News Story Before school, we have lots of students in various locations of the school. It warms my heart to see the older students interacting with younger students, younger siblings and babies. The older siblings take on the responsibility of making sure their younger siblings get to class when the bell goes and for the students with whom have no family connection, they play with, talk to and check on. It is a joy to see our students looking out for each other.

Religious Education The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

This coming Sunday, the Church commemorates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ also referred to as the Feast of ‘Corpus Christi’. This Solemnity reminds us of the risen Christ who is our source of joy and celebration present within the Eucharist. The receiving of communion during the Eucharistic celebration is emphasised by the Latin words ‘Corpus Christi’ - Body of Christ.

Administration News Assembly Thank you to our Year Five Class for their entertaining Assembly item today. Our next School Assembly will be held on Thursday 24 June at 2.20pm in the School Hall. We look forward to watching the Year Six students who participate in the Drumbeat program showcasing their talents to the school community.

Musica Viva Incursion Tomorrow, Musica Viva will be performing for students from Pre-Primary to Year Six in the School Hall. During the show, ‘The Rhythm Works’, students will have the opportunity to see just how easy and fun it is to make music from a wide range of materials. Lockdown Drill On Thursday 10 June, St John’s School will be holding a drill to practise our lockdown procedures. The children will be informed of the lockdown and that it is only a practise. Please feel free to discuss this with your child/ren, so they are reassured and prepared. Nagle Catholic College Information Evening Nagle Catholic College will be holding an Information Evening on Tuesday 15 June 2021 at 5:00pm, for families interested in enrolling their children in 2022. To register your attendance, please visit: www.ncc.wa.edu.au/events.html Allergy Aware School A reminder that St John’s School is an ‘allergy aware school’. The foods that are particularly dangerous for some of our students are nuts and eggs. We ask that students do not bring these foods to school in their lunch boxes.   Cooler Weather

As we are beginning to experience cooler weather, particularly in the mornings, we ask that parents consider sending their child to school with their school jacket or jumper. Please ensure that these are clearly labelled with your child’s name as these uniform items are often easily misplaced once they are taken off during the day. Even in the cooler months, all students are required to wear a hat during playtime. Please ensure that your child’s hat comes to school each day and that it is clearly labelled. Please also check that your child is coming home with the correct jumper/jacket as often students may mistakenly take somebody else’s home with them.
