Dear Parents, Parent Information Sessions Our Parent Information sessions were held this week with very good attendances from our families in both sessions. Parents were able to meet their childs classroom teacher and briefly chat following each presentation. Teachers summarised key information covering areas such as homework requirements, parent helpers and behaviour management. Thank you to the families who came and supported our information night. Parent Teacher Meetings– 7-8 March Our teachers will be available to meet with each family for 10 minute parent teacher meetings on Tuesday 7 March and Wednesday 8 March. Please log onto the online interviews website using the log in details provided with this newsletter to book a time with each teacher. All families who attend will be provided with feedback about how well students have settled into school, how work habits are developing and standards of work progressing. If you require any assistance with booking the interviews online, please speak to the office staff. Student Leaders Badge Ceremony On Monday, our Year 6 Student Leaders will be officially presented with their leadership badges at a special ceremony being held in our school hall from 9am. Our State MP, Mr Paul Edbrooke will be in attendance as our special guest to present our students with their badges. We appreciate Mr Edbrookes time to support our Year 6 students and to provide some words of encouragement during the assembly. After the ceremony, Mr Edbrooke will be speaking to the Year 5/6 children about the Australian democratic system: the role of government, different levels of government, how governments are formed and how they generally work. This should be a most insightful session for our students who are studying Democracyas their unit of inquiry for Term 1. School Council Our parent vacancies on School Council have been filled for 2017. As such, there is no requirement to run an election process this year. Preps Our Preps have enjoyed sharing their special skills and talents this week in their classrooms in front of their peers. They have also enjoyed sharing their special family photos and memories as part of their unit of inquiry titled, All About Me / Families”. The photos on this page depict one of their fun teamwork activities. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. SEEKING HOST FAMILIES FOR 9 DAYS IN MARCH 2017 Frankston High School has an annual visit from Osaka Seikei Girls School in Japan from Tuesday 21 March – Thursday 30 March 2017 (9 nights). There will be approximately 30 female Japanese students aged 15-16 years and will be accompanied by their 2 teachers from Japan. The emphasis of the program is to experience our culture, our food and our language so interacting as much as possible with a host family in English and eating your food at meal times is recommended. Your child does not have to be in a Japanese class to host a Japanese student but as it is an all girls school, a host family must have one female sibling of any age living at home. The Japanese student can share a room or have a room on their own. Hence, boys can host a female student as long as they have a female sibling at home. A payment of approximately $20 per day is provided to assist with guest expenses. We ask each host family to provide ac-commodation and 3 meals per day (a cut lunch or lunch mon-ey for the canteen for school days). Also we ask that you pay for your guest when dining out or an admission cost to a ven-ue if the outing has been arranged by you, otherwise we ex-pect the Japanese student to fund anything additional during their stay. School Schedule The Japanese students will attend classes at Frankston High School. At recess and lunchtimes a Frankston High School student would meet your Japanese student and be their bud-dy. No Japanese student is to take public transport to and from school unless accompanied by a member of their Host Family. A Working With Children Check form (WWC) needs to be completed by every person over the age of 18 years residing at your residence. WWC forms are available online. It is always a challenge to find enough host families. If you are able to host or would like to make further enquiries please contact Anne Thomson 0409 835 541 or [email protected]
