10th Annual Pyjama Drive 2017

How it works:

For the last 9 years Andrea Cobb at the Housing Call Centre has conducted an annual pyjama drive and arranged distribution of PJs to kids in foster care.

In 2016 Andrea received amazing support from work colleagues, family, friends, community groups including local schools, church groups and Facebook friends that they were able to do-nate 1350 new pairs of PJs to kids in care.

To date, with your help, Andrea has been able to distribute over 3500 pairs of PJs to local kids.

How you can help:

All you need to do is purchase a new pair of kid’s pyjamas for winter or summer. We need PJs for children starting at size 000, right up to a large in adults for both male and female. This ac-commodates all children and teenagers in foster care, however any sizes will be greatly appreci-ated. Andrea will then organise a collection/distribution date and all of the new PJs will be issued to children throughout the State via Child Protection and Foster Care Agencies.

Get Involved:

Please, feel free to get your family and friends involved, the more the merrier.

Return date for the PJs will be Friday 26th May, drop off point being South St P.S Office.

PYJAMA DAY

The SRC are holding a Pyjama Day on Friday the 23rd of June, to help support Andrea Cobb’s Pyjama drive.

Gold coin donation or a donation of a new set of PJs on the day.

SCHOOL BANKING

School banking day is Wednesday.

WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK

We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality in-struction and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Atti-tudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. The Department has updated the survey for 2017 to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement and performance. Students from Year 4 to Year 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing” your child. Your child has the right to refuse or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during, or after completion of the survey.

Your child will be provided with a unique login to complete the survey. The student login is an as-signed identifier that may be used by the Department to combine data for research purposes on-ly. Your child’s privacy and the confidentiality of your child’s survey responses will be protected at all times. No identifiable personal data is included in the survey response file.

The survey results will be reported back to the school in Term 3. No student can be identified in the results reported to schools or in any other report of the data. Last year we used the survey results to plan the way lessons are taught, lunch time activities and inform decisions such as what new equipment to purchase for the yard (i.e. the spider web).

This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school over the period Monday 22 May to Friday 23 June. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information or visit the Department of Education and Training website:

http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/management/Pages/performsurveyat.aspx.

LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP

FROM MR .R Friday a fortnight ago our Grade 5/6 students participated in the Lightning Premiership against all other schools from the Moe/Newborough region. The sports that were played were Football, Soccer, Netball and Volley Stars.

Football results and photos were in last week’s Snippets so I’ll be giving a wrap up of the other sports.

VOLLEY STARS

Our students narrowly missed out on bring home the Runners Up Pennant finishing 3rd

af-ter winning 3 out of 4 matches. Awesome effort!

SOCCER

We fielded 2 soccer teams this year 1 Boys team and a Mixed Girls/Boys team. The mixed side battled hard all day producing a brilliant defensive performance against the runners up NEPS holding them to only 3 goals. They also managed to win their last game of the day to finish on a high note. Keep working hard in class and at lunchtimes and you will continue to improve. The boys side played some very attractive and team orientated soccer. We managed to win all eight of our matches and in an awesome defensive display we did not concede a single goal for the day. This meant the boys won the Lightning Premiership Pennant and move into the next round to play against the best schools from the Morwell and Traralgon districts. Keep up the good sportsman-ship, team play and hard work and I’m looking forward to seeing how we go in a month’s time. Congratulations Zac B, Harry G, Dylan S, Leeton H, Ben M, Cameron W, John S, Bowen P, Charlie W, Jacob D & Caleb M fantastic effort boys!

FROM CLASSROOM F/1B

This week students in F/1B enjoyed working with their parents during their Literacy learning. We consolidated our learning of the Uu sound by making sun catcher umbrellas using tissue paper.

They look very effective when the sun shines through our window.

We demonstrated our developing knowledge of our ‘Camera Words’ by playing a memory game that the parents could watch. The students were very proud of their growth this term. We almost

know all of our Camera words!

Congratulations F/1B.
