We finished the year with some extraordinary events, our Christmas luncheon for grandparents was well attended, the Christmas drive another success, and our “Jingle Shop” ran for a second year in a row! A very special thanks to you, our community for supporting the students in these worthy activities. A peek into activities to come include excellent a repeat of the program in ROCKS AND RINGS teaching K-7 how to curl, Science Fair projects, and First Aid made available to our high school students. Stay tuned for more great things to come. Our school action plan for learning sets our direction to achieve student success. Copies are available at the school, as well as on our school website. The focus is based on “Appreciative Inquiry” which lines up with our re-designed curriculum in place. There is a lot of information available to parents/caregivers regarding the change in direction around the curriculum online. The most significant change with the previous curriculum is that now the attention is on the process of learning, versus the quantity of learning. Do connect with your child’s teacher if you have any questions. We encourage parents and caregivers to work with the school through the PAC, during our Open House and Learning conversation opportunities, share skills with the school through volunteering, following the newsletter and website update, celebrate student successes with us, and other related opportunities as they arise. School communications can be found through school newsletters, community newspapers, project fairs to highlight the work of the students, presentations, bulletin board displays in the school, our website, Facebook site, and of course word of mouth. Principal’s Message

Dear David Stoddart Community:

Happy New Year! 2018 has rung in as a busy year in the three

days of school so far…. We finished the year with some extraordinary

events, our Christmas luncheon for grandparents was well attended, the

Christmas drive another success, and our “Jingle Shop” ran for a second

year in a row! A very special thanks to you, our community for supporting

the students in these worthy activities. A peek into activities to come

include excellent a repeat of the program in ROCKS AND RINGS teaching

K-7 how to curl, Science Fair projects, and First Aid made available to

our high school students. Stay tuned for more great things to come.

Our school action plan for learning sets our direction to achieve

student success. Copies are available at the school, as well as on our

school website. The focus is based on “Appreciative Inquiry” which lines

up with our re-designed curriculum in place. There is a lot of information

available to parents/caregivers regarding the change in direction around

the curriculum online. The most significant change with the previous

curriculum is that now the attention is on the process of learning, versus

the quantity of learning. Do connect with your child’s teacher if you have

any questions.

We encourage parents and caregivers to work with the school

through the PAC, during our Open House and Learning conversation

opportunities, share skills with the school through volunteering, following

the newsletter and website update, celebrate student successes with us,

and other related opportunities as they arise. School communications

can be found through school newsletters, community newspapers,

project fairs to highlight the work of the students, presentations, bulletin

board displays in the school, our website, Facebook site, and of course

word of mouth.

As the month of January brings winter to our corner of the world,

let’s remember to provide fresh air activities and healthy meals!

Sincerely,

Carol Pickering

Kindergarten/Grade 1/2

K-2 class is continuing to learn about making healthy food choices for breakfast & lunch. We have prepared breakfast foods & enjoyed sampling them!

Grade 4/5/6

This month the Grade 4/5/6 class is continuing learning about fractions. Their favorite part of learning about fractions has been through the use of cheerios to create equivalent fractions as well how to add and subtract fractions. We are also beginning a new project this month. Over the course of the next few months, the students will be learning about how children all over the world, both past and present, live and the students will choose one of these children to embody and delve deeper into learning more about their life. Keep an eye out for our presentation date!
