TheAcademyImprovementPlan2016-17KeyTargetsare:-ImprovingMathematics-ImprovingWriting-ProgressofGroups-ImprovementoftheLearningEnvironment-CurriculumcoverageEachKeyTargetisbeingledbyateacher.AllthestaffhavearesponsibilitytoworkononeKeyTargetforwholeAcademyimprovement.TheAIPKeyTargetsarecurrentlybeingreviewed.ThisisbecauseweareapproximatelyhalfwaythroughtheImprovementPlancycle.

-OnthelatestPeerReviewvisit,LeadershipandManagementwereseenas‘good’.PleaserefertothePeerImpactreportfromtheAIP.

-Our3NQT’sareprogressingwell.Theyhavebeenonavarietyofcoursesandournewsponsorhasbeenhighlypraised.OneNQThascompletedherassessmentyear.ShehasalsobeenemployedforSeptember2017asapermanentmemberofourteachingstaff.

-TeachersInterimPerformanceAppraisalwasconductedbeforeEaster.6targetschangedoutof81.2targetswithObjective1-TeachingEffectiveness,noneforObjective2–PupilProgressand4forObjective3-WiderContribution.SeeResourcesCommitteeminutes.

-Ournewflatroofisnowcompleted.

-Version2(Spring2017)oftheSEFandSEFsummaryhavebeenupdated.TheyhavebeendiscussedwiththeTLCcommitteeandnowonthewebsite.

-TheAcademyImprovementPlanhasbeenwrittenandisnowinprogress.TheKeyTargetsarecurrentlybeingreviewed.ThisupdatedAIPwillbesharedwiththeGoverningBodyinJuly.

-The‘PrincipalPopIn’continueswitherraticattendance.

-ThePrincipalattendstheTrustSMTmeetingswhicharetermly.Thepreviousmeetingwashighlyproductiveaswelookedathowbesttobeworkingtogether,usingstandardproforma’sacrosstheAcademiesandexploringAcademyskillsets.

-TheSLTmeettermlyforSafeguardingupdatereviews.TheannualreportforLACwillbepresentedinthefinalLGBmeetingoftheAcademicyearbyHelenDixon,SENCo.

-Wearecurrentlyontracktoassist7UniversityofBrightontraineeteachers.1xYear1studentinYear5,3xyear2studentsinYear2andEYRSand3xfinalyearstudentsinYear1and3.

-WecontinuetobelongtotheSussex‘MathsHub’organisation.Thisistoextendandimproveourteachingofmathsacrosstheschool.

-WecontinuewiththeIRISConnectcoachingprogramme.BeforeEaster,eachmemberofstaffrecordedthemselvesandwatchedit.Staffwillagainberecordingthemselvesbeforehalftermandcoachingstaffmeetingswillbetakingplace.Wewillbeusingthe‘filmclub’afterhalfterm.

-SuccessfulParentsConsultationEveningstookplaceintheweekcommencingMarch6th.Thisincludedanotherextendedeveningtimesession.Parentswereinformedabouttheirchild’sprogressagainstyeargroupexpectations.

-LiteracyandMathsbookscrutinycontinuetotakeplace.Asanexercise,thisisevolvingcontinually.Now,teacherswillreceiveindividualfeedbacktosupporttheirdevelopment.Itisapositiveandworthwhileexercise.

-TeachersSianDewdney,MichelleHallandSarahOliveareparticipatingintheTrust’sMiddleLeadersProgram.

-TheBudgetfor2016-17isintheprocessofbeingfinalised,whilethebudgetfor2017-18isbeingfinalised.However,wehavealreadyhadadiscussionwiththeTrustfinanceteamaboutthebudgetfor2018-19.Thisisduetothelackofanyadditionfunding,predictedrisingcostsandalackofimprovementofpupilfundingwhichcouldseeourAcademywithalargedeficitbudget.

-OurnewPayrollprovidercontinuestoproduceincorrectpayforsomeofourstaff.TheheadofoperationsandHRwillbevisitingouracademytomeetwiththefinanceteamandaddressanyissuesremaining.

3) REPORTS

SportsPremium-SarahOlive

Sincethelastreport,anotherfourmembersofstaffarecurrentlyobservingtheCPDsportsteachingprovidedbyPremierSports.Thelatestcoachingfocusesontheteachingofstrikingandfielding.Insomeyeargroups,teachersarehelpingteammemberstodeliverthelessonstheyobservetotheiryear’sparallelclasstocontinuetheirgoodpractice.

Throughoutthesummerterm,oursubscriptiontoMid-SussexActiveofferstheopportunityforchildrentocompeteinawiderangeofdifferentsports.Theseinclude;athletics,tri-golf,hardandsoftballcricketaswellastennisandswimming.Thesecompetitionsandfestivalswillbesupportedbyfriendlycompetitionsagainstlocalschoolstoallowagreaterpercentageofchildrentorepresenttheirschool.

Wehavecontinuedtohaveanumberofsuccessesinourinterschoolcompetitions.• Ourboys’FootballteamwontheHaywardsHeathFootballCompetition.• OurNetballerswererunnersupintheHaywardsHeathLeague.• Wemadeitthroughtothesemi-finalsintheIndoorCricketLeague.• OurswimmingteamsareSussexPrimarySchoolChampionshipqualifiers,makingitthrough

tothenextstage.• WewerejointwinnerswithBlackthornsintheYear5and6Mid-SussexTagRugby

competition.AnarticleandphotographaboutthisachievementwassenttoLindfieldLife.• OurYear5/6athleteswererunnersupattheSportshallAthleticsCountyFinals.

Therehasbeenanincreaseintheoverallpercentageofchildreninvolvedinsportingactivities,withmorechildrenparticipatinginintraandinterschoolcompetitionsandfestivals.OurIntraschoollunchtimecompetitionshaveallowedagreaternumberofchildrentoparticipateincompetitions.Therehasbeenariseinchildrenattendingextra-curricularclubs,withover100childrenattendingathleticssessionsrunbyEloisaBellandJamesSmytheveryWednesdayandThursdayafterschool.

Afocusfortherestofthisacademicyearwillinvolvere-startingthemulti-skillsclub,targetingthosechildrennotcurrentlyattendingafterschoolclubs,orthosewhowouldbenefitfrombeingofferedavarietyofsportingactivities.

Therewillalsocontinuetobeafocusonbothintra-schoolcompetitionsandthepercentageofchildrenrepresentingtheirschoolatinter-schoollevel.Eachyeargroupwillbeholdingatleast2intra-schoolcompetitionsthistermandwewillbeaddingthesescorestoourSportsDayresults.

Onthe22ndofMarchthePPGovernorandCo-ordinatorattendedalocalitymeetingatStPaul’s.Aninformativemorningsessionwasheldandavarietyofaspectscoverede.g.role,interventionetc.Lindfieldaretobecommendedastheonlyschoolwhoinvitedagovernor.BuildinglocalitylinksisacurrentfocusledbytheHeadsandthisaspectiscurrentlybeingsteeredbySteveDavisofWardenParkPrimaryAcademyandJamieSavageofStPeter’sArdingly.TherearecurrentlythreeschoolswithinthelocalitythatOfstedhaveaskedtohaveexternalPPreviews.ConsequentlytheHeadshaveallocatedapotofmoneytohelptargetlocalityworkinthisarea.ArequestwasmadetoseeifthefundwouldreimburseLindfieldforattendanceatthenationalconferenceinLondon,withaviewtosharingalltheinformationwiththelocality–todatethisofferhasnotbeenaccepted.

DanielSobel(FounderofInclusionExpert)spokeattheNationalConference,heisalsoaproviderofexternalreviews,asisStPaul’s.Itwashearteningtohearthatwhilewestillhaveseveralareastoaddress,wehavemadegoodprogressoverthecourseofayear.AsummaryoftheprogresstodatewassharedwithgovernorsonTuesday2ndMay.

Furtherfundingof£200hasbeenobtainedthroughourbookweekandweareawaitingadeliveryofbooksspecificallytargetedatPPpupilstohelpencouragereadingathome.DuringtheEaster

HolidaysthePPCo-ordinatoralsoresearchedanumberofstorybooksspecificallytargetedatEarlyYearsandKS1whichcontainedmoralsorpositivemindsetanddesignedanaccompanyingworksheettoaccompanyeachbook.Thisencouragesinteractionwithanadultandalsoprovidesanactivityforthechildren.Whilstbeingearlydays,andonlycurrentlyrolledouttoEarlyYears,theseareprovingtobeverypopularandmoreeffectivethanthemagazineStorytimewhichwebroughtpreviously.Thechildrenhavealsoenjoyedtheir

personalisedbookmarks.

OwingtothegoodweatheroverEaster,no-onetookupthetreasurehuntchallengewhichhadbeenrecededandresearchedforthefamiliesinKS2.Thiswillbesavedandre-issuedovertheSummerHolidaytoallchildren.

Staffinjuryandresignation,hasmeanttwointerventionshavehadtobecancelledslightlyearlierthanplanned.OnamorepositivenotewewelcomeHelenFrancisbackafterthebirthofEthan,however,shehasdecidedtoformallystepdownfromhermanagementroleandwewishherallthebestwithhernewfamily.

The3membersofstaffwhoattendedtheCatchUpTrainingcamebackveryenthusedandarecurrentlyundertakingtheircertificationrequirements.AllthePPchildrenfromReceptiontoYear5havebeentestedwiththestandardisedtestsforreadingandthechildreninYear5havealsohadthemathstesttoo.

ThelocalityhasalsostartedtoofferenrichmentopportunitiesforPPchildren.ThefirstofwhichisaboyswritingfocusbasedontheworkofPaulCollicutt’sRobotCity.Wearefortunatetohaveacquired4spacesonthisfortheYear5boys.

best.PPfundinghasassistedwithboostergroups,specifictargetedsupport,externalmathsintervention,mockSATsinthesamesurroundingsandwiththesamememberofstaffandsupportwitheducationaltripstoactasastimulusforwritingandthepurchaseofdictionaries.Year6currentlyhave7PPchildrenwhichmakeup10%ofthecohort.Ofthese2onlyjoinedinJanuary2017.ThreeofthecohortarealsoontheSENregister.PersonalisedprovisionforeachofthepupilshasbeenputinplaceandthanksgotothededicatedteamofteachersandTAswhohavesupportedthem.

AfirstaidcourseforthechildreninKS2hasbeenbookedforTuesday27thJune

FurtherstafftrainingwillbeheldonWednesday28thJune–PupilPremiumStaffMeeting

SchoolCouncil-AnnaBainHouseRewardafternoonscontinuetobesuccessfulandGreenHousehadalovelyhouronthefieldwithgames,equipment,biscuitsandsquashearlieronintheterm.ThechildrenalsoenjoyedHouseColoursDayandwouldliketorepeatthismorefrequently.WecontinuetohaveSchoolCouncilandHouseCaptainmeetingsandthechildrenshareideasforconsideration.Thelunchhallcanstill,attimes,benoisysothechildrenarecurrentlyconsultingwiththeirclassesabouthowtochangethis.IdeasincludethequietestyeargroupinKS2havinglunchonthefield,musicbeingplayedand/orhouseseatingtogetherratherthanchildrensittinginyeargroups.Inaddition,thechildrenwouldalllikeawaterfountainoneachplaygroundandonthefield.KS1haverequestedmoreplaygroundequipmentandarequesthasgonetoparentsforhoops,balls,stiltsandhandlefreeskippingropes.Thechildrenwouldalsolikepermanentfootballgoalsfortheastroandfield.TeachershaverequestedthatwepressaheadwithourSPAGGrammarcharactercompetition;weshallaimtoruntheeventandhaveourcharacterbytheendofJune.TheSchoolCouncilandHouseCaptainsvisitedtheHousesofParliamenton15thMayforaRepresentation&Votingtourandworkshop.Itwasagreatsuccess.SEN-HelenDixon

TheSENteamhavecontinuedtobeverybusy.Therearenow66childrenontheSENregister.8ofthesechildrenhaveadisabilityandthereforehaveanIndividualHealthandCarePlan(IHCP)outliningtheirspecificneeds.1ofthese8childrenalsohasanEducationHealthandCarePlan(EHCP).Thereareatotalof5childreninschoolwithanEducationhealthandCarePlan59ofthe66childrenontheSENregisterhaveanIndividualLearningPlan.DuringMayandJuneIwillmeetwiththechildren,theirparentsandtheirteacherstoreviewthetargetsandwritenewtargets

forthecomingterm.Thisisavaluablebuttimeconsumingprocess.SuggestionstostreamlinetheprocesshavebeendiscussedbutwiththerequirementsoftheCodeofPracticeinmindanothersystemhasyettobedetermined.Thenumberofchildreninyears5and6requiringsupportwiththeirsocialandemotionalwellbeingcontinuestoremainhigh.LorrainePellettandIwillbeattendingamentalHealthandEmotionalWell-beingconferenceon29thJunewhereitishopedwewillbeabletoaccessthesupportofothermentalhealthprofessionalstosupportus.TwochildrenarereceivingcounsellingsupportfromTime4Childrenandthreechildrenarereceivingsupportfrom‘YourSpace’.Therearenow6familiesbeingsupportedviaanEarlyHelpPlan(previouslycaf),withaFamilySupportWorkerbeinginvolvedinallbutone.‘ThinkFamily’arenowprovidingmoreintensivesupportforonefamily.TheLearningMentor,LorrainePellettissuccessfullyusingtheSolihullParentingStrategieswithanumberoffamiliesinschool.Thedaily‘Mindfulness’sessionsavailableatthebeginningofeachdaytohelpchildrenstarttheschooldayinacalmandpositivemannerarehavingapositiveimpactwithchildrenfromyears4-6attendingthesessionsonaregularbasis.Safeguardingconcernshaveremainedsimilartolastmonthwith2additionalreferralsbeingmade.TheseconcernsareloggedandreportedtotheMultiAgencySafeguardingHub(MASH)asappropriate.NumberofMASHreferralssincethelastreport:2Numberoffamiliescurrentlybeingsupportedbyasocialworker:2NumberofchildrenonaChildProtectionPlan:0NumberofChildrenLookedAfter:1ItishighlylikelythatonepupilwillbethesubjectofaChildProtectionPlanintheverynearfuture.TheCatchUpinterventionmentionedlastmonthhasbegunwith9childrenreceivingsupportviaCatchUpmathsand3childrenfollowingtheCatchUpLiteracy.Theassessmentprocessisverythoroughenablingsupporttobetargetedappropriatelyandmakingtheimpactoftheinterventionmeasurable.ThemanagementofinterventionsinschoolisunderdiscussionandthesystemmaychangeinSeptember.WiththenumbersofTAsinschoolreducingandtheneedfortheimpactoftheinterventionstobemonitoreditislikelythatTAswillbeinclassesduringthemorningandrunningspecificinterventionsintheafternoon.Thefocusoftheseinterventionswillbedeterminedthroughdiscussionswithmewithclassteachers.
