The Policy• January 5, 2006: MoR announced its new container train
policy.• Two earlier initiatives were taken in 1994 and 2004, failed.•Open to all Indian companies, including subsidiaries of
foreign companies registered in India.•Minimum annual turnover of INR 1 billion.• The validity for permission was for 20 years, further
extendable to another 10 years.• IR network was classified and grouped into four categories.

• Unit of J. M. BAXI & CO. (India's premier shipping services company)• 12 racks of 45 wagons each having capacity of 90 TEUs.• 540 wagons have been deployed and 900 in next fiscal.• First ICD is coming up at Sonepat, Haryana.• Planning to introduce specialized containers such as Tank
containers and Open Top containers.• DOMESTIC SERVICES: 3 Major Route.• INTERNATIONAL SERVICES: 2 Exim Routes.• Rail-Road, Rail-Road-Ship, Rail-Ship services are also offered.
ARSHIYA RAIL INFRASTRUCTUR
E• Business unit of gulf based Arshiya International.• Currently operates 6 racks of full wagon capacity.• Handles 2430 tons per rack.• Provides specialised containers according to clients need.• Also operates FTWZ in khurja.• ICD-KHURJA is the only private ICD in the country to have
exclusive connectivity with 6 lane private rail siding.• Container yard has a throughput capacity of 120,000
TEU’s/annum.
Freightstar
• Freightstar is a subsidiary of middle east based ETA Star Group.• Provides multimodal logistics solution for EXIM trade.• 9 EXIM circuits currently operated by Freightstar trains.• DOMESTIC: Provides multimodal transportation service.• Rakes: 45 wagon long rake has a capacity to carry 90 TEUs.• Containers: Fleet of over 500 ISO High cube 20` Containers.• Logistics Center: logistics services for Exim and Domestic
Cargo.
Adani Logistics Ltd.• ALL is a Subsidiary of Adani Group• Also involved in Port & SEZ, Bunkering, warehousing
(Maritime and Logistics sector).• Rail terminal: Patli (Punjab), Kishangarh (Rajasthan), Mundra
(Gujrat). • Holding capacity: 3,52,000 TEUs annually. (Handled around
1,47,006 TEUs in 2012.)• CBU transportation in Containers by rail-road mode.• Provides ICD and Operations facilitation to other CTOs at
Adani Logistics Park (ALP).
Container Rail Road Services Private
Limited• CRRS is a business unit of DP World group.• 7 CRRS EXISTING CIRCUITS.• 2 CRRS AD-HOC CIRCUITS • INTRODUCING 2 NEW CIRCUITS & 5 CIRCUITS are PLANNED.• CRRS has sharing and swapping agreement with CONCOR
between Ludhiana and JNPT.• Plan to increase number of racks from 7 to 22 in next two
years.
Innovative B2B logistics
• Unit of Bagadiya Shipping & Bothara Brothers (P) Ltd.• First Private Container Trains operator to start operations.• Strategic Alliance with CWC, operating container trains on
the EXIM route of JNPT to the NCR and operating some CWCs rail terminals.• 3 ICD at Kanech, Sahnewal, Ludhiana.• 3 Rail Linked terminals coming up at Sahnewal (Ludhiana,
Punjab), Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and Rourkela (Orissa).• Currently operating 12 racks.
IndiaLinx• IILPL Previously JV of APL and HIPE.• In February 2015 APL Logistics was taken over by Kintetsu
World Express (KWE) as brand name of “IndiaLinx”.• Currently operates 18 rakes.• Annual capacity of around 200,000 TEU’s• Regular services from 9 ICD’s in NCR, Ludhiana, Kanpur and
Hyderabad to the ports of Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Pipavav.• Plans are to expand capacity to at least 25 trains within the
next two years
Sical Multimodel and Rail Transport Ltd.
• Part of Sical Logistics Ltd. acquired by Coffee Day Group in 2011.• SMART owns 7 rakes of 45 BLC wagons.• 1,811 owned and leased containers.• Building 2 rail linked terminals at Bangalore and Chennai. • Handles more than 8000 TEUs (Containers) per annum.• SMART working in tandem with other operators offers
shared train services.
TransRail Logistics Ltd.
• Parent company DARCL (Delhi Assam Roadways Corporation Ltd.)• Owned 2 container train racks for services.• Also provide open wagons (BOXN), closed wagons (BCN) and car
wagons (NMG) services.
Gateway Rail Freight Ltd.
• Subsidiary company of Gateway Distriparks (NSE: GDL)• 7 locations: 3 ports, 3 ICDs, 1 domestic terminal.• 500,000+ TEUs handling capacity.• Owns-operates a fleet of 24 racks, largest fleet among Private CTOs.• Also provide refrigerated container facilities for perishable goods.• 194 EXIM services to and from the terminals a month.
Hind Terminals• Parent company is Sharaf Group (UAE) and MSC Agency.• Operates Container Freight Stations, Inland Container Depots • HTPL operates 21 trains connecting 6 major ICDs.• Development of rail linked Inland container depots in South, East,
Central and North India with proximity to the proposed Dedicated Rail freight corridors.
MORE About CTOs• IR provides ATT and Premium ATT for CTOs.• With 30% Rail Share more then 11 MTEUs with 360 single stack trains
per day is projected by 2019-20. • Double Stack container trains operations is major benefit for CTOs
and likely to increase in future.• CTOs offers
first and last mile connectivity new routes door to door solutions Customized container
Haulage Charges • IHC, the transportation charges to and from ICD/CFS to sea port of
loading or vice versa. • IHC vary as per location depending on the distances and other cost
parameters. • IHC is collected by Carrier while releasing B/L for Export shipments,
and when issuing Delivery Order in case of Import shipments.• Charges for private CTOs depend upon the IR freight decision. • Easy calculator provided by IR on www.fois.indianrail.gov.in.• Basic freight according to wagon or train load can be calculated.
