Fermentation Bucket
Your Pro-Kashi brand fermenting bucket
is made of HDPE-2 FDA approved
plastics. These are high grade, foodquality materials that will offer years of
service.
After you bury your Bokashi wastes clean
your bucket and lid with dishwashing
liquid and water. With the soapy water in
the bucket, press the drain button and
allow the liquid to flow through and clean
the spout. Rinse everything, including the
spout, with fresh water. The cardboard
and parchment liner does not need
cleaning. It is inoculated with thebeneficial microbes and not cleaning it
will allow them to be passed on to the
next batch of food waste.
There is no need to use bleach or
chlorine products at all. If you wish to do
something in addition to soap and water,
spray the bucket’s interior, exterior, and
spout with hydrogen peroxide lightly and
allow it to dry. That’s it. C lean up is as
easy as filling it up with Bokashi.

Thank you for choosing Pro-Kashi’s
Bokashi Fermentation Bucket. Your product
utilizes FDA approved Food Grade plastics
in the bucket, lid, and spout. The inner liner
is biodegradable baking paper and
cardboard. There are 2 inner liners (one touse and a spare for later).
A Choice
Your choice to begin Bokashi Composting
and using Beneficial
Microorganisms helps to
divert over 30% of all
wastes now going to
Municipal Landfills and
reduce greenhouse gas
emissions. Use Bokashito promote safe,
effective, nontoxic
natural farming techniques and soil building
alternatives to the use of chemical agents.
How
Bokashi composting uses naturally
occurring bacteria, yeasts, and phototropic
organisms to ferment/pickle organic wastes.
Guiding the decomposition process this way
prevents the loss of nutrients in thecomposted materials, makes these nutrients
more bioactive and quickly available to
plants and soil organisms, while adding
naturally occurring beneficial enzymes,
vitamins, and minerals. Bokashi compost
feeds the soil which in turn creates a
healthier environment that feeds the plants;
allowing the plant to use its energy to grow
larger, healthier, faster without the side
effects of chemical usage.
The Process
Open the lid and remove the inner liner of your
new Pro-Kashi Fermentation Bucket.
Fill the bottom of the bucket first with a thin
layer of Pro-Kashi Wheat Bran Bokashi and
begin layering organic kitchen wastes on top—
no more than 2” to 3” deep per layer.
Between each layer of waste sprinkle a 1/8 cup
or small handful of Pro-Kashi bran on top, press
down with a small potato masher, hands, or use
your inner liner to remove as much air as
possible from inside the layer(s), Cover the
waste surface with your inner liner, this keeps
air off of the surface of the top most layer (this
is an anaerobic—without air process).
Snap on your bucket’s air tight lid—that is it.
Continue the process of adding waste material
layers and Pro-Kashi bran until the bucket is
full. All the while the material inside is
fermenting and being inoculated with Beneficial
Microorganisms that are digesting the waste.
Every 2-3 days remove the liquid that will co llect
in the bottom of the bucket. This is a living tea
that has additional uses - do not waste it.
When the bucket is full, allow it to ferment
sealed for an additional 2 weeks. Drain the
liquid one last time and then simply bury the
waste 6” to 12” inches deep in the garden,
mixing some soil into the waste and thencovering the entire mix with the remaining so il.
Do not let plant roots come into contact with the
fresh material for about 2 weeks when burying.
Alternatively add Bokashi to existing compost
piles, tumbler bins, or place in the bottom of
raised bed or planter pots (place a layer of soil
or compost in the bottom of the planter pot first,
then Bokashi compost, then a 12” layer of so il
on top). When adding Bokashi compost to the
ground, mix some soil into the fermented waste
to assist in the final break down of the material. After 2 weeks plant directly on top. That’s it.
Uses
Bokashi bran composts organic kitchen
wastes to include meats and dairy (not
possible with other composting methods)
Bokashi bran can be used as natural kitty litter
and odor reducer in cat boxes and small
animal cages
Bokashi bran can be used to compost pet
wastes in an outdoor digester. This compost
cannot be used for human gardening/food
consumption; however, it can be used to
fertilize ornamental plants and flowers.
Bokashi bran can be used by itself to
stimulate soils, compost piles, lawns, break
down garden wastes, increase soil micro and
macro biota.
Bokashi liquid that is drained from the buckets
during fermentation is a living tea full of
beneficial and bioactive microorganisms,
enzymes, and vitamins.
Bokashi liquid can be diluted and sprayed as
a foliar fertilizer on plants, flowers, soils, and
traditional compost piles.
Bokashi liquid can be used full strength to
remove odors from drains, naturally digest
clogs in slow running drains, and added safely
to septic systems to increase their efficiency.
Bokashi composting can be done year round.
