    Procedure to configure Student Notebook to

    Standard Operating Environment (SOE)

    This procedure is meant for students who are not using the SPs recommended model

    notebook.

    Please get ready your SPICE account and Password before proceeding to configure your

    notebook. Verify your password by logging in to https://idms.sp.edu.sg.

    Each student is entitled to only one copy of the bundled applications that can only be

    installed in one system.

    It is the students responsibility to remove the bundled applications from their old

    Notebook when they change their Notebook. Remember to backup all your data and create an OS recovery disk before proceeding

    with the following steps as you may accidentally delete/corrupt your data.

    You should uninstall all antivirus software from your system, the configuration script will

    install Symantec Anti Virus software

    If you have been using your system for some time, we strongly recommend that you

    restore your system to factory default and apply all security patches through Windows

    Updates before proceeding with the configuration.

    1. Computer Naming ConventionYour computer must follow the following naming convention;Dyyyy-NBxxxxxx e.g.DET-nb1123456

    whereD Prefixyyyy is the abbreviation for Course code

    For Examples:

    DEWT :Diploma in Environmental Management & Water TechnologyDAC : Diploma in Accountancy

    DBS : Diploma in Biomedical ScienceDMC : Diploma in Media & CommunicationDXPD : Diploma in Experience and Product DesignDIT : Diploma in Information TechnologyDEEE : Diploma in Electrical & Electronic EngineeringDARE : Diploma in Aeronautical EngineeringDMR : Diploma in Marine Engineering

    Xxxxxxx is the staff\student ID

    2. Contact support staff to create and prepareC:\SP_NBC folder

    3. Configure student notebook3.1.Browse to your system

    C:\SP_NBC\SP_NBC.exe.

    3.2.Click Yes on User Access Control windows.3.3.Enter your SPICE account ID.SD\pxxxxxxx.

    3.4.Enter the number of the School you belong to.

    3.5.If this message is shown, Click OK to changecomputer name.

    3.6.After the Notebook has restarted, repeatsteps a to d and then wait for step e toappear.

    Connect to spwireless

    If this message Additionalinformation is required to connectto spwireless pops up, click on it.

    Enter the user name as sd\pxxxxxxxand your spice accounts password.

    Click on Work network on thisWindows and then Close

    3.7.Enter your SPICE accounts Password.

    Windows Live Essential installation3.8.For windows Live Essential 2011 interface,

    click Install all of Windows Live essentials(recommended)

    Symantec End Point installation & updates3.9.When the following windows appear, Click Do

    Not Restart.

    3.10. For Notebook purchase from SP Road-Show.You will see this windows displayed.

    For Notebook Not purchase from SP Road-Show. This windows will appear.

    Install the bundled applications in sequenceby enter the number and click OK. Installthe software with default Option.

    For Adobe CS5 Installation, Install as triallicense, English (International) as shown.

    For Visual Studio 2010 remember to ClickInstall documentation.

    4. Configure print queues of Commercial Printing Service4.1.Click on Connect to P icon in the desktop.4.2.Follow the instruction on screen to enter your

    spice account and password. Wait for themessage P drive connected successfully.

    4.3.Press the Windows key and Rtogether andtype\\ssdps640.sd.sp.edu.sgthen clickOK.

    4.4.The following print queues will appear.Highlight ALL print queues, then right clickand select connect. Click YES if prompted toinstall driver.

    5. Configure Email Account (Live@Edu) and Windows liveMail to access Email Account5.1.Check Live@edu Email

    5.1.1. Browse tohttps://appscentral1.sp.edu.sg/student/stud_emailsearch.nsfif you do notknow your email account.

    5.1.2. Logon with your SPICE Account andpassword.

    5.1.3. Enter your Admission No. and clickSearch.

    5.2.Configure [email protected]. Goto web address

    http://mail.live.comto access yourLive@Edu Email. Key in your email andyour default password. All accountsare created with a pre-generated initialtemporary password:p (Note: birth date in

    ddmmyy format).

    5.2.2. If you are logging in for the first time,you will need to fill in the followinginformation.

    5.2.3. Enter the characters as shown.

    5.2.4. Verify your password.

    5.2.5. Change your password. Make sure thenew password is measured as strong.

    5.2.6. You will need to select a question andkey in your secret answer.Remember your secret answer. You will

    need this if you have forgotten yourpassword.

    5.2.7. Review and accept the Agreements.

    5.3.Adding live@edu to Windows Live Mail5.3.1. Launch Windows Live Mail

    5.3.2. On the ribbon tabs, go to Accounts >

    Email to add the Live @ EDU Account.

    5.3.3. Key in the Live@Edu email addressand the password, then click Next.Leave others as default.

    5.3.4. Select the Server type as WindowsLive Hotmail. Leave others as default.

    5.3.5. Account will be successfully added,click Finish.

    6. Backup your system for future recovery(Perform the following steps at home. It would takes about 1-2 hours)

    Note: For notebook NOT purchase from SP notebook Road show, refer to your

    notebook user manual on backup and recovery procedure

    6.1.Click on Start -> type backup -> launchBackup and Restore.

    6.2.Click Create System image.

    6.3.Leave the destination drive as D:\ and click

    Next.

    6.4.Keep default setting and click start backup.

    7. Steps to recover your system.(Perform the following steps to recovery your system when you system is havingproblem. Remember to back-up your personal data stored in C:\ drive if there is)

    Note: For notebook not purchase from SP Road-show please refer to yournotebook user manual on backup and recovery procedure.

    7.1.Press F8 while system is restarting.7.2.Select Repair Your Computer

    7.3.Click System Image Recovery.

    7.4.Click on Next to proceed.

    7.5.Select Restore your computer using system image that you createdearlier. Click on Next to proceed.

    7.6.Select the Use the latest available system image. Click on Next toproceed.

    7.7.Click on Next to proceed
