Ted and Carolyn Turnau, Czech Republic

Carolyn continues to teach 8th-10th grade Bible and church history. She's good at it -- the kids love her classes. Pray for good discussions to emerge out of it. By the way, praise that the bone-spur on Carolyn's heel has not been bothering her (yeah, we love physical therapists).

Update from Ted: I am teaching "Comparative Worldviews" (freshman-level) and "Popular Cul-ture and Media Theory" (upper-class level) at Anglo-American University, and another section of "Popular Culture and Media Theory" at Charles University. I'm also teaching "Art of Apologetics" to a handful of high-school seniors at Christian International School of Prague (senior class is real-ly small this year). Pray for good discussions both inside and outside the classroom. One answer to prayer is that this semester's AAU classes are about evenly split between American exchange students and European students. Last semester I taught a class that had all Americans save for 2 Europeans. It's been a complaint of mine for a while, that American students are taking over my home university. But lately I've been thinking: maybe having American exchange students is a good thing, given the state of free speech on American college campuses at the moment. In the Czech Republic, at least so far, there is no taste for classroom censorship (after all, this country endured 40 years of state-sponsored censorship; it doesn't want to take the habit up again). There-fore, I can basically say what I like without fear of losing my job, as long as I avoid defaming oth-er lecturers and steer clear of racist or xenophobic rants (not a problem for me). This study abroad trip might be the one chance to hear a Christian intellectual speak in the classroom in their whole college careers. So right now, I'm content with whoever I teach. I'm also finding myself in a lot of discussions with ex-students lately. I'm going through Tim Keller's Reason for God with some of my former students.
