Just like the Internet, the global tele-phone network consists of multiple in-dividual networks of independent oper-ators, who diff er in their signaling and transmission technology. To allow na-t i o n a l a n d global calls for customers, all network operators need to connect their net-works with the telephone networks of other operators.
