Fun Facts (mostly about Facebook)
FB is now considered the 3rd largest “country” in the world? (but it’s still not allowed in the largest)
FB users now number > 1 Billion• That’s over 15% of the worlds population
FB has over 50% of the internet users spending at least 15 minutes per day.
![Page 8: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Fun Facts (stuff you wouldn’t believe)
92% of children under the age of 2 have a digital shadow 69% of parents are friends with their children on Social MediaThe average American has roughly 600 online and offline relationships (#of close friends? Only 2.16)93% of marketers use Social Media for business and over 90% of consumers trust peer recommendations
![Page 9: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
That’s nice, but what do you really mean?
There is a greater (and greater) premium being placed on individuals who understand how to act in a more socially connected and dynamic world.
![Page 10: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
What I really want to say…
Those who know the all the rules, will be able to play the game better than those who don’t!
Play to win!
![Page 11: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
3 Points for being “Professionally Social”
1. Be Genuine2. Combine the old with the new3. Use Technology to your advantage
![Page 12: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Be Genuine (no really, do this)
“Social Capital is built over time. It’s built on the strength and consistency of relationships”-Joe Gerstandt & Jason Lauristen The Talent Anarchists
![Page 13: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Be Genuine (no really, you must do this)
Authenticity comes from both knowing and acting in alignment with who you are as a person: How do you communicate online and in person? Do you say what you mean? How are you dressed? Do you purposely wear a
costume?
Irony is for suckers…
![Page 14: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Be Genuine (no really, you must do this)
![Page 15: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Be Genuine (no really, you must do this)
![Page 16: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Be Genuine (Do you think you can really do this?)
Remember, Irony is for suckers…Moving away from irony involves saying what you mean, meaning what you say.
![Page 17: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Be Genuine
“Wherever the real imposes itself, it tends to dissipate the fogs of irony”
- Robert Pogue Harrison (Stanford University)
![Page 18: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Use Technology to your Advantage
Most of you should already have profiles on LinkedIn, Facebook, & Twitter
This makes it easier for recruiters to find you…
…because recruiters are really lazy busy.
![Page 19: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
See, it’s this thing called the “Web”
According to a recent Harvard Business Review blog:Using the web for recruiting makes it easier for employers & would be employees:– 100 employees on FB or LI with 100 friends
could theoretically reach over 1M connections.
![Page 20: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Recruiters are really “Busy”
A recent Jobsite survey of “Busy” recruiters yielded the following results:
54% of them use Twitter
66% of them use Facebook
97% of them use LinkedIn
![Page 21: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Analytics. Does that start w/an “A”?
There’s too much data out there. It is however, easier, quicker, & cheaper to sift through all of it to find the right fit.
![Page 22: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Luddite? How dare you suggest that!
Short story long:
“Recruiters will deem candidates unemployable if they fail to find information about them online”The only thing worse than a bad profile, is not having one at all.
![Page 23: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Combine the Old with the New
The more successful “professionally social” individuals will be able to combine traditional “In-Person” Networking techniques with social “On-line” skills to achieve goals & results.
![Page 24: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
That’s nice, but how do I get started?
Let’s start with a simple question…
…What are you trying to accomplish?
![Page 25: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
WIIFM?
I want to meet someone
That’s what I’m trying to accomplish?
I’d like an introductionI’d like some (more) information
I’d like some help with my job search: People on the inside to make an intro. People on the inside to keep me in mind for my perfect
role!
![Page 26: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
Well, what’s the right balance then?
![Page 27: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
It’s not what you know…or is it?
![Page 28: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Innovate AND Create!
Tesla was a genius, but Edison knew the recipe for the secret sauce:
Create out loud, use the social network you’ve created to help drive success
![Page 29: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Creating Loudly…
Success only happens to those who innovate out loud. Your idea is worthless if no one cares about it, and it’s worth even less if no one knows about it.
![Page 30: Professionally social](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022081413/547fe6feb4af9f06628b456b/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
To sum it all up…
Being “Professionally Social” is a not easy.
You’ve got to truly be genuine, have a handle on networking in an ever changing environment, and know that creativity and innovation are not mutually exclusive.
