Target group This welding course is designed to provide information and technical knowledge of the welding method used for ships maintenance and to provide the basic skills on how to make such welds with reference to industry standards. In particular, the course is intended to develop and prepare crew of seagoing ships in the use MMA welding equipment and consumables as good practice. DURATION OF THE TRAINING COURSE Duration of the MMA welding course is 5 days for each – Basic and Advanced levels. INCOME REQUIREMENTS TRAINING APPROACHES AND EQUIPMENT During training course theoretical lessons are given using Wilhelmsen ship’s service welding guidelines, practical tasks are conducted in Novikontas Maritime College laboratory with Wilhelmsen ship’s service welding equipment. Basic level course is open to ship`s personnel, inexperienced in onboard arc welding and without formal training/certificate. Advanced level course is open to ship`s personnel with basic arc welding training certificate and on board repair welding experience as good practice of pipes welding. They will be taught simple layout/marking and bench metal working to be able to make simple metal fabrications. Advanced level course deals with the training of experienced ships staff with the proper selection of onboard welding processes, equipment and consumables for on board welding repairs. Participants will be taught advanced welding skills on carbon steel butt joints on plates and pipes. The skills to be developed will lead to qualification as MMA welding plate and pipe welder. The trainees who successfully complete this course will be able to: Identify the welding and gouging requirements on a ships; Identify and eliminate hazards on sea fastening welding; Deposit welds in the horizontal and vertical position using high recovery and low hydrogen electrodes with the arc welding process; and Gouge away fillet welds on tee joints using the Air Carbon Arc Gouging method.
