PROFILE SUBJECTS 3rd PERIOD 2014-15

Targets for 3rd period’s profile subjects:

1. The theme of this period is development. Development as in personal development in relation to self-image, social relations and social conditions—in particular other ways of living and cultures. Ex-periences from first and second profile subjects are united during the third period: The profile sub-ject is shaped around a nature sport or imagination activity and combined with a culture perspective on this last journey of development. All profile subjects must focus on the individual personal devel-opment in relation to self-esteem, friendship, community and knowledge of other young peoples’ lives and conditions in different cultures.

2. Values of the school aim towards preparing all learners to manage themselves in a complex and dynamic world. For this reason all profile subjects must be shaped in collaboration between learn-ers and teachers—from the theme development. It is our experience that the complexity and dy-namics of– and in life are better experienced by testing one-self on insecure grounds, but in a strong community of friends, as well as through an open mind for others and the world.

3. We are a modern school, and the community creating activities must be meaningful for both learners and teachers. Profile subjects are strong communities based on interests that brings to-gether different learners and teachers in a development process quite unique. It is our experience that the relations that arises between learners and the adults on this journey is the ultimate learning environment, and it is this learning environment that really gives learners the courage and will to take charge of their personal development and their own lives.

4. We focus on the individual learner’s development with respect for the community. Learners and teachers are very different, and there are many different prioritisations and targets during the school year under the heading of learning and development in the binding community. It is a focus of ours, to make room for all the different interests, and many exiting suggestions to profile subjects and journeys have been put on the table. In this relation, it is important to stress that self-payment on profile subject travels may vary.

Process of forming profile subjects: Learners and teachers have throughout November and December suggested and prepared different ideas for profile subjects. Interest in the different ideas have been tested during 3 voting ceremonies, and ap-prox. 1/3 of the ideas have been cut. Remaining profile subject suggestions are included in this magazine and therefore on the election slip. Most learners should be able to get their first priority—however, should this not happen, there will be an opportunity to choose again in week 2. More information, inspiration, pictures and videos to be found on the homepage!

Choices are to be made before Sunday the 4th of Jan., 2015.

PROFILE SUBJECTS 3rd PERIOD 2014-15

Alpine skiing & snowboarding — (Austria / Italy)

Terms and conditions: You must be prepared to be physically active, open towards trying new ways of skiing, as

well as willing to participate in a culture collaboration with other young people.

Self-payment: approx. 2.500 DKK. 1st rate 1.500 DKK. Before the 1st of Feb. + optional group cancellation insurance 350 DKK. 2nd rate 1.000 DKK. Before the 1st of March.

If you enjoy fresh air, speed exercise and love to have fun –

then skiing and snowboarding is the right choice for you. No

prior experience is needed—there will be challenges on differ-

ent levels!

Physical training will be a priority, but we will also learn about

the area, language and knowledge of the gear we will use on

our trip. Moreover, we will do social activities to get to know

each other really well before our departure.

On our trip we will have lessons in skiing or snowboarding every

day, but there will also be time to spend with your friends, so

you can test your acquired skills from the lessons.

We will also do other fun social activities such as

picnic in the snow, contests, games and activities in

the hotel.

Joint cooking and responsibility for activities is part

of this trip, which we will also prepare before depar-

ture.

We are planning to go to Passo Tonale in Italy, due to the good odds for snow in week 16. Purposes of this subject include that learners acquire or improve their skills within skiing or snowboarding, strengthen social responsibility, physical training, knowledge of culture and language, knowledge of gear and how to use it.

There is also an opportunity to take a guide course.

Organisers: Stine Damgaard and others.

PROFILE SUBJECTS 3rd PERIOD 2014-15

Build & burn — New!

Terms and conditions: You must be prepared to be active and creative, open towards trying other ways of col-

laboration and ways of life, as well as willing to engage in culture collaboration with young people from different

parts of the world and Denmark.

Self-payment: between 0 DKK and 2500 DKK.

1st rate: 0 DKK until the group have set their targets.

The Inspiration and idea for ‘Build and burn’ comes from the international event and movement ”Burning Man” in

salt-desert of Nevada, which every year gathers 75.000 people from around the world. It is difficult to explain what

exactly Burning Man is—it is an outburst of creativity, inter-activity, tolerance and inclusion in a non-commercial

community and it is experienced as the ultimate expression of sustainable joy of life with love as its core. You can

share events, experiences, music, food, clothing, culture and much, much more...

"Build and burn" will attempt to follow the principles of Burning Man, which are: Radical inclusion, giving, de-

materialising, radical self-sustainability, radical self-expression, joint effort, civil responsibility, leave no trace, partici-

pation and spontaneity.

The purpose of Build and burn is to create meetings across nationalities, cultures, people and join them in a com-

mon experience where focus is the process of the community. We imagine that learners will do some creative inter

-active projects that can be linked with other young peoples’ projects —maybe in other countries. This link will

take place at a Build and burn event in Denmark or abroad, and participants will share the process, the experience

and only keep the grand finale in mind and memories. The material outcome will be burned in a symbolic event,

which will leave no trace other than the ash—what is left is only the shared experience and story to tell.

As far as we know, there has never been a project similar to this in Denmark for young people, which is why a part

of this course will focus on learners and teachers together shaping the context, the content and inviting other

young people to join us in collaboration. We have the facilities to work with the construction of sculptures, re-

hearse our events and the like. As it is a non-materialistic event, we expect no extra costs than what is included in

school tuition—this however, is up to the group to decide.

PROFILE SUBJECTS 3rd PERIOD 2014-15

Cheerleading — Los Angeles

Terms and conditions: Learners must have an interest in dancing and cheerleading—and not choose this subject based on destination alone. It is through dancing and the team work that the community is strengthened and that we experience the culture and meet others.

Self-payment: Approx. 6.500 DKK.

1st rate 3.000 DKK. Before 1st of Feb.+ optional group cancellation insurance 350 DKK.

2nd rate 3.500 DKK. Before 1st of March.

Lessons will be both theory and practice. Theory will include learning about cheerleading in a historical and cultural per-spective - in Denmark and USA. The profile subject travel will take us to L.A., where we will gain an understand-ing of the high school culture, history and societal conditions of contemporary L.A. This subject will also introduce learning of anatomy in relevance to our physical training. Learning will include teacher– and learner presentations, indi-vidual– and/or group work and the use of various videos, TV-broadcasts and the like. The practical part of this subject will include physical training, among other, suppleness and strength. We will also focus on body-consciousness through a variety of massage– and relaxation exercises.

The goal is to enhance learners’ body-consciousness and collaboration skills. They will work towards presenting a full cheerleading programme, which will be performed in L.A. It is our intention that learners participate actively in drawing up and preparing the programme. Furthermore, it is also an important element in this subject that learners gain an understanding of the lifestyle and culture surrounding cheerleading—with a particular focus on L.A./USA. This subject will ensure that learners experience that they all contribute and all have a responsibility for the overall project to succeed.

Profile subject travel in cheerleading will go to L.A. The destination is cho-sen based on experiences from previous years and the request from learn-ers to explore cheerleading culture in USA. During our travel we will try to organise a visit to a high school and partici-pate in the daily activities and lessons—perhaps meet and train with the cheerleaders of the school. Furthermore, we will have the oppor-tunity to train with– and be taught by guest teachers in cheerlead-ing whilst we are in L.A. We will also see a sports event in order to experience professional cheerleaders in action! Cultural activities and events are also include in the schedule. After our return, learners will work on a presentation of their experiences in order to improve communication and presentation skills.

in different places—perhaps on the Great Wall.

This journey will focus on the world of Chinese dancing.

In China we will experience traditional Chinese dancing and

Dancing in New York

Terms and conditions: Learners must have an interest in dancing and not choose this subject based on destina-tion alone. It is through dancing that the community is shaped and strengthened, and that we will experience cul-ture and meet others in New York.

Self-payment: 7.000 DKK. 1st rate 3.500 DKK. Before 1st of Feb.+ optional group cancellation insurance 350 DKK. 2st rate 3.500 DKK. Before 1st of March.

Dance is for learners who have a passion for dancing and who will work hard to-wards a mutual goal—to perform with dancing. Everyone can join this subject—beginners as well as experienced will experience the joy of dancing. Choreography and dancing in this subject will reflect the different levels in the team.

We will challenge your technical skills, develop your techniques and introduce you to many different genres: House, Funk Hip hop, Show-dance, Rock' n’ roll and more. We will teach music understanding, and you will have the oppor-tunity to make your own choreographies. At special occasions and events at the school, dancers will per-form their choreographies in the different genres.

This subject will aim towards the centre of the dance world, New York. Teachers and learners from Ranum have during the past 5 years built a strong relationship with several dance studios, schools and instructors. School visits prioritise the cultural experience that will give learners an understanding of a very different environment—an environment marked by ghettoes, police patrolling on a daily basis, and where learners learn to accept each others’ different cultural backgrounds.

Dancers will prepare presentations on Ranum Efterskole College, Denmark and themselves, and will have the opportunity to meet with locals in an informal way. We will also visit the dance studio, Perid-ance Studio, in New York, where 4 different classes have been ar-ranged for us. Peridance Studio is a successful dance studio, which has many professional and competent dance instructors to teach us. The trip to New York will also include excursions to well-known sights and we will learn of American culture with a particular focus on rela-tions to our life and culture in Denmark.

Organisers: Guest teacher Lisa Clark, Ann Charlotte and others. Questions should be directed at: [email protected]

Diving Padi Open Water—Red Sea.

Terms and conditions: Safety is top priority on this course, and you can read more about the instructions on our homepage: http://www.ranumefterskole.dk/efterskolen/sosikkerhed. Vaccinations: It is your responsibility as parents to make sure your son/daughter receives necessary vaccina-tions. The Danish ’Statens Serum Institut’ recommends diphtheria and hepatitis A when travelling to Egypt. Pass-port must be valid up until 6 months after return—end of October 2015.

Padi Open Water is for you, who do not have a divers

certificate. This course will be both theory and practical, and

you will gain the knowledge and skills to take certification

tests. Certification will enable you to dive all over the world.

This course is primarily theoretical in the beginning and it will

take thoroughness and will to learn the theory. There will be

excursions to indoor swimming pools, where we will do the

first practical tests. The final tests will be done in the Red Sea.

Read more on the Padi OW course on: http://

www.kingfish.dk/dykkerkurser/lar-at-dykke/padi-open-water-

diver-dykkercertifikat

Diving: Due to the temperatures here, diving will take place in Egypt, where all learners will have two guided

dives each day with either an instructor or dive-master on nearby reefs. Learners are certified to also dive in pairs,

when they have completed and passed the basic course—however, for security reasons we will make an evalua-

tion of each learner in order to assess if they are competent and responsible enough to dive without an experi-

enced adult.

This profile subject will also focus on learning about the culture and social conditions of Egypt—with particular

focus on the latter, which have undergone many changes during the last year. We will attempt to visit locals in or-

der to experience and understand their view on societal changes and

development. We will also go on a camel ride to a Bedouin village.

Camp: Understandably there can be some insecurities in relation to

the safety of travelling to Egypt. We follow instructions from the For-

eign Ministry, which state that Red Sea destinations are safe for tour-

ists. Moreover, it is important to stress that we will be staying at a

small desert camp exclusively for tourists, and situated far from the

closest village. The camp is called Eco Lodge Nakari Village.

Organisers: Rolf Iversen and others. Questions should be directed at: [email protected]

This profile subject is for you, who already have a certificate in Open Water or Advanced Open Water, and who would like to learn more about the underwater environment. This course is both theory and practice, and quite a lot of reading must be expected as it is our ambition that learners become responsible and competent divers. After our diving trip, there will be opportunities for dives in the Limfjorden and possibly other locations in Denmark. The content in this course that focus on culture and underwater environment, will be planned by learners and teachers together. It is also an ambition of ours, that learners become co-creators of a project founded in various areas of interest: diving and underwater environment, or Egyptian/Middle Eastern culture. Those who may wish to take the Advanced open water certificate will focus on underwater environment, but will also be introduced to theo-retical elements from the Rescue diver course. The particular hard-working Advanced open water learners, will have the opportunity to become both Advanced open water divers and Res-cue divers, if they understand the theory and pass the theoretical tests for both courses, and manage to log a minimum of 25 dives, which is required to begin the Rescue diver course. Should anyone have an interest in taking both certificates, additional costs should be expected. Those who wish to take only the Rescue diver certificate will be re-introduced to elements from the Advanced open water course, but must also be prepared for additional physical training as this is an important element of particularly the Rescue course. The profile subject travel will go to the Red Sea with the Padi open wa-ter divers. Safety and diving: It is an exciting, challenging and developing subject. As safety is top priority, there are some safety– and administrative pre-cautions that must be in place in order to participate in these courses. Important information and papers to fill out: www.ranumefterskole.dk/profilfag/natursport/dykning You will find following papers that must be filled out and signed by parents, learners and possibly your doctor. Health certificate, appendix to the health certificate, PADI rules and regulations for safe diving, risk– and liability

assurance.

Asthmatics should NOT expect to be cleared fit for diving! All papers must be received by the teachers prior to fol-

lowing date—if not, learners will be unable to participate in this course.

This course is about working hard with serious training that will give the individual both physical and mental re-

sults. This is for you, who may not be in top form, but who seeks physical challenges. This is for you, who dream

about being in shape and use your body every day, and feel how amazing it is when your body changes.

Besides hard training, friendship is a priority. This course will build a strong community in which all will develop in

a safe environment. We will reach our goals together!

Training will focus on crossfit, strength training and include elements from boxing and martial arts. We will devel-

op both physically and mentally with a focus on enhancing self-confidence.

It is important that our training is hard, efficient and that learners will gain the skills to plan own training in the

future. Our travel will most likely take us to Scotland, where physical challenges, mutual experiences and train-

ing/martial arts environments are priorities.

A brand new suggestion, which combines an interest in photos, photography, the use of different cameras and a ‘safari’ trip to a big city.

We will work with different techniques and learn how to use our equipment properly, so that we may focus on the theme, motive and story in the picture. We will work with theoretical aspects of photography, motives and tricks, and we will assist in the 3rd photo competition at the school. We will work with the printing of pictures and images in large scales, digital copies and perhaps even develop our own pictures in the dark room. The photo safari, we will plan together and the target destination will be one of the major cities in Europe—it is also a possibility to do a road trip to several cities. We would like to invite guest teachers, who are exceptional photogra-phers and we would like to visit a professional photographer. It is advisable you have your own reflex camera, but the school does have different cameras

you can borrow.

Organisers: Guest teachers, and teachers Thomas Bjerg / Nigel Hopwood.

PROFILE SUBJECTS 3rd PERIOD 2014-15

Free-skiing is a discipline within alpine skiing, where you move away from the piste and into the un-soiled nature. From these activities come the motto: "Earn your turns", which means that you will have to earn your way down the mountain. The way it works, is that skins are attached under your skis, and in doing so is able to walk up the mountain. This gives alpine skiing a new perspective, as most people are accustomed to be transported up the mountain by a lift and use the piste down again. The ultimate gain from free-skiing is of course the great nature experience as well as the trip down the mountain, which will often be in ‘powder’.

This discipline distinguishes itself from other forms of skiing in following:

Longer and wider skis than the traditional alpine skis.

The use of skins.

Backpack with shovels, probes and avalanche detectors.

Helmet.

Moreover, learners will find that this form of activity re-quires some physical endurance. Lessons will prepare you for this.

As we can not ski in Ranum for obvious reasons, we will focus on physical training such as cardio and strength training. You will need the strength to go up and down the mountain—particularly if weather conditions are hard. Car-dio will also prepare you for your trip up the mountain, particularly for the thin air on the top of the mountain.

We will focus on safety and security: How to read the conditions i.e. weather, landscape and the like.

Free Skiing — North - NEW!

Organiser: Kristian Fog and others. Questions should be directed at: [email protected] Terms and conditions: Excellent physical shape and experience in skiing—ask Kristian F., if you are in doubt about meeting the criteria. Self-payment: Approx. 6.500 DKK, which is subject to changes, should you need to rent gear/equipment. 1st rate 3.500 DKK. Before 1st of Feb. + optional group cancellation insurance 350 DKK. 2nd rate 3.000 DKK. Before 1st of March.

Permission: We would like to ask your permission to arrange a wine tasting with the learners—an arrangement

for which Lars will be responsible. It is otherwise a strict non-drinking policy. Please confirm permission via mail.

Self-payment: max. 3.000 DKK.

1st rate 2.000 DKK. Before 1st of Feb.+ optional group cancellation insurance 350 DKK.

2nd rate 1.000 DKK. Before 1st of March.

In collaboration with the school’s own chefs and guest teachers, we

will work with exciting ingredients and produce interesting dishes

that will challenge your taste-buds and widen your horizon. We will

not use recipes, but we will use our senses and taste our way into

the culinary universe. In this period, we will focus on the Mediterra-

nean kitchen—in particular the Spanish kitchen. We will look at the

relationship between food, life quality and health, as well as the cul-

tural dishes and preparation methods. Gastronomy is also a close

and binding friendship, in which we will work hard to achieve only

the very best in cooking and food design! This may mean long days

and that no-one is finished until all have achieved their goals. On our

expedition, we will follow the ingredients from the earth/water to

the table, and we will taste the local foods. We will also visit a local

food college and meet other young food-lovers. We have previously travelled

to Copenhagen, Spain, Paris, the Canaries and London.

The target for this period’s expedition is planned between learners, teachers

and chefs. We aim at a low self-payment.

Organisers: Lars Jeppesen and others.

Questions should be directed at: [email protected]

PROFILE SUBJECTS 3rd PERIOD 2014-15

Confectionery is thought of as an imagination subject, as the content is both physical i.e. creating and

baking, and creative i.e. decorating, combining tastes and in general using ones senses.

Lessons will include: techniques, recipes, structures and shaping, creams, mousses and decorating.

Knowledge of theory and professional terms is necessary in order to work with a perfectly tempered

chocolate or caramel. We will specialise in confectionary and we will create a masterpiece at the end of

the course.

Culture and confectionery: There are no limits in confectionery and it would be ideal to go to Paris, the

city of cakes or Brussels. We would like to visit famous confectionery shops, chocolateries and meet oth-

er young people with a passion for confectionery.

Target for this period is decided between learners, teachers and chefs. We aim at a low self-payment.

Organisers: Lars Jeppesen + Jan Rind + guest teachers.

Questions should be directed at: [email protected]

Confectionery is suggested by learners, and therefore many opportunities to influence the content of

this subject. As some ingredients may be pricy, expect additional costs. We have a bakery, so it is obvi-

ous to try it out, but it does have a limited capacity in terms of how many people we can fit in.

Terms and conditions: Gastronomy and confectionery will be taught concurrently in many of the lessons as there

are theoretical aspects in both subjects that are the same. We will also collaborate on certain menus, arrange-

ments and the profile subject travel.

Self-payment: max. 3.000 DKK. 1st rate 2.000 DKK. Before 1st of Feb.+ optional group cancellation insurance 350 DKK. 2nd rate 1.000 DKK. Before 1st of March.

Hardball adventure - NEW!

Terms and conditions: Hardball requires a permission from parents and a membership in the RE hardball associ-ation in order to comply with Danish law. Min. age is 16 years! Learners must expect to spend Wednesday eve-nings and maybe 1-2 weekends on practice. Self-payment: Membership is 450 DKK. Expedition may vary from 0—2500 DKK. 1st rate 1.500 DKK. Before 1st of Feb. + membership of the RE Hardball Association. 2nd rate 1.000 DKK. Before 1st of March.

Hardball /adventure is for both boys and girls! The idea for this profile subject comes from the learners, who play it at the school. Hardball is for everybody, but you should be able to handle a bruise or two, and a soar body. We will use the equipment at the school, but it is allowed to bring your own, as long as safety and security rules under the Hardball Association at the school are kept. The purpose of Hardball is NOT to become a soldier! The purpose is to use hardball as the sport activity that will give learners some physical, mental and strategic skills as well as develop their collabora-tive skills. The ethical and moral aspects are often debated, and it is im-portant to stress that this subject contain following themes: Theoretical knowledge of: Law, regulations and safety Techniques and management Strategy and planning Collaboration and team work Performance for other groups Planning of expeditions Training and practice: How to handle the gun and techniques Shooting practice Supervised battles Performance with– and for other groups The expedition Presentation and communication of experiences after return from expedition The profile subject travel has previously taken us to a secret location in Denmark that was run by a professional instructor with military background. Self-payment in this relation was 0 DKK. Should the team, however, decide to travel to Poland or other destinations, we expect additional costs. Organisers: Kurt Andersen and guest teachers. Creative workshop — NEW!

This profile subject is suggested by learners and is under the theme im-

agination. It is an ambition to challenge and expand the creative skills,

cultural understanding and aesthetic sense of the learners.

In the creative workshop we will work project-oriented individually, in

groups or in one team.

In the creative workshop you will learn practical skills such as nitting,

sewing, weaving, glass making, ceramics, painting and the like. Some

processes will have a theme and be mutual projects, whereas others will

be individual projects. There is plenty of room for fantasy and dreams,

and learners have the opportunity to work with different materials in differ-

ent dimensions. They will be introduced to different techniques, methods

and tools.

Destination for our travel is undecided and will be planned between learners

and teachers. We have previously travelled to Paris and Barcelona, where we

gained an understanding of art in the streets as well as in museums.

We would like to visit an aspiring artist, work with street are and establish

contact to an educational institution with the purpose of making a visit.

Media

Would you like to work with video, photo-shop, radio, graphic design of

posters, business cards, logos, brochures, banners, homepages?

Are you curious to know more about fonts, colours, form and illustra-

tion, then we have the full Adobe package to both graphical work and

films! Or do you have a passion for capturing the essence of the eft-

erskole life through sharp interviews, video-productions or projects?

Then media is definitely the profile subject for you!

We have our base in “mediebunkeren” in the imagination hallway in the

basement, in which we can focus on our work and projects. There are

several computers (i-mac) available to us, and we have a large-scale

printer for posters and banners. You are also welcome to bring your own

computer and/or equipment. The profile subject travel will most likely

go to a big city—perhaps in collaboration with the photo safari

group?! We have previously been in Berlin and London with visits

to graphic design museums, publishing agencies, TV-network sta-

tions and the like.

Organisers: Thomas Bjerg.

Questions should be directed at: [email protected]

Terms and conditions: Learners must have an interest in working independently and in teams on projects that

will be presented to others. Additional hours and assignments may occur in order to finish a project.

may be able to borrow from the school.

In collaboration with local mechanics and garages, we will work with the mechanics of the car, learn of

the different systems in old and new cars. When the weather allows it, we will try a supervised form of

race. It is an ambition of ours to buy two identical cars for this purpose.

We will practice different driving techniques and try to gain some experience with ice or slippery roads.

It is NOT an option to go to racing tracks, so there are some limitations to our activities. We prioritise

safety and it will be necessary with parental permission and safety equipment such as suits and helmets.

It would be obvious to include theory from driving license courses and first aid courses in our lessons.

It is also an idea to look into traffic in other countries—Germany or in the North?

We could go to the Go-cart track in Thy or Aars and arrange our own races. And perhaps see and experi-

ence a real race?!

Targets for this profile subject are decided between learners and teachers. We aim at a low self-

payment.

Street Performance - Barcelona

Terms and conditions: Street performance is about being active and this may sometimes result in injuries. It is

important that you pay attention to safety issues, wear the right gear such as helmets and so on. You should be

able to handle a few bruises as they are inevitable. When working with street art, we will use spray paint in order

to be authentic. This will, though, only take place out-doors and with the use of approved masks.

Self-payment: Approx. 2.500 DKK. + wheels for personal board, safety gear and the like for long boards/skateboards. 1st rate 1.500 DKK. Before 1st of Feb. + optional group cancellation insurance 350 DKK. 2nd rate 1.000 DKK. Before 1st of March.

This profile subject was developed by teachers and learners in

2012, and has become a great success!

Street culture as a tool to experience other cultures and meet

other young people with shared interests. This can be by build-

ing a long board, establish a meeting with a group of young

people somewhere—in Paris maybe? And then meet in a mu-

tual context—the activities and the social community.

Many learners are already familiar with street culture, but in

this course they will be introduced to different aspects of

street culture, which will challenge them on a personal level

and set new goals for their practice: Longboarding, Tricking,

Parkour and different forms of Street Art.

In the street performance workshop, learners will build their

own long boards and shape new creative boards from their

own ideas and imagination—teachers will supervise and

support. A part of this course will be projects managed by

learners, where they will prepare presentations and assign-

ments to their fellow learners. We will also visit various skate–

and street locations in Denmark during this course.

The profile subject travel will most likely take us to Barcelona or

Paris, where there are unique street environments—but Den-

mark or Sweden may also be on the table as both of these coun-

tries also have something to offer! We will use social media to

establish contact with young locals, so that we may experience

their lives, culture and street culture up close.

PROFILE SUBJECTS 3rd PERIOD 2014-15

Warhammer - Cosplay - NEW!

Warhammer—Cosplay: from figure to IRL is a suggestion from some of our learners, which have brought together

quite a few creative and cosplay interested learners. This subject is about making your own costumes, make plays

and scenarios at the school and in larger cities. Learners will learn how to make their costumes, sew and shape, and

develop their creative skills. It is about creating a character—a character you want to become part of.

Learners will also work with the development of a Warhammer role– and strategy play. It is very much a learner

initiative and it will therefore be their drive and passion that will shape the content of this profile subject. There are

a few teachers at the school, who practice role playing, and teachers, who are able to teach leaners some of the

practical skills in costume-making, and not least, teachers who are professionals in play-writing—in other words,

we have a solid foundation for sparring and exchanging ideas and knowledge in this course!

This course will also focus on personal development—as an individual, and as an individual in a group community

that share a mutual interest in role playing, costume designs and the like.

The profile subject travel is yet to be planned and is in many ways dependent on the developments in this course. It

is an ambition of ours that the group participate in a ”Convention” in Europe, and in local role plays when possible.

Organiser: Leonora, Ida, Anna Lynge and others.

Water performance - Turkey / Portugal

Choose this profile subject, if you love water and want to challenge yourself in many different water disciplines.

Everybody can join this team—whether you are a beginner or an experienced surfer. You will have plenty of op-

portunities to challenge yourself and have fun with your friends. Our base will be in Rønbjerg and in Klitmøller!

We will try: WINDSURFING, PADDLE SURFING, SUP SURFING

and WAKEBOARDING...

We will let the weather decide for us what activities to engage in

when we meet—and with 4 different sport activities it is almost

guaranteed that we find a match between weather conditions and

activity. You must, though, be prepared to jump into the water in

all kinds of weather.

We will also focus on other aspects than being in the water, such

as strengthening our balance and strength on land by practicing on

indo-boards, trampoline or mattresses. Strength training will pri-

marily be core training.

We will also teach ”nature understanding”, so that you will learn

about the forces of nature, read and understand weather maps

and judge when it is safe to be in the water. We will, furthermore, focus on

our destination, prepare ourselves for the culture we will meet so that we

are able to meet new friends with an open mind.

We will try to arrange weekend trips in order to practice our skills, so that

we are ready for our profile subject travel. It is our mission to experi-

ence a different culture—feel the differences, the nature and the sur-

roundings. It is exciting to travel and you will learn much by testing

your skills under new conditions. Weather– and water conditions are

often better abroad, and we will become closer in our community.

We will attempt to find a location for our travel that will offer all 4

styles. We will live and eat like– and with the locals in order to really

experience their lives and culture.

ECONOMY & PAYMENT

1st rate must be paid when choosing profile subject-no later than 1st of Feb., 2015

1st rate is half of the self-payment.

REGISTRATION IS ONLY FINALISED, WHEN 1ST RATE IS PAID.

(With the exception of the subjects that are covered by school tuition).

Group cancellation insurance is approximately 350 DKK. Which is to be paid with 1st rate-please make a note

when transferring.

2nd rate must be paid 1st of March the latest!

Self-payment in relation to culture profile subjects depends on the final economy for the trip and often ticket

prices are influential. Thus, 2nd rate may be subject to change. We aim at matching the estimated expenses de-

scribed in this magazine.

Re-selection, withdrawal or the like: The expenses, which the school has covered and which can not be re-

funded, will be charged in the case of re-selection or withdrawal (regardless of the cause).

We aim at fulfilling the 1st priority of all learners, but the economic theme is always present and it is always

necessary to consider this aspect, when prioritising. A large number of our learners contributes to their self-

payment and/or pocket money. It is educational to have a conversation in the home about the choices, econo-

my, own contribution, as well as how to prioritise during the whole school year.

Individual support: We would like to have a dialog with the learners and families, who may have some finan-

cial challenges in relation to self-payments. This means that learner, parents and the school, together, will find

an individual solution and possibly a instalment agreement. Application can be retrieved from the office and the

application will be handled by the principal and the financial department.

Safety on the profile subject travels:

We follow recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and advise parents and learners to do the

same. On our travels the staffing is high and we are often joined by extra assistants-youth guides, who are for-

mer learners and therefore familiar with our ways of travelling and for what purposes. A detailed safety proce-

dure is completed for all travels, which will be available on the webpage of the school under ”Efterskolen”.

Travel insurances: The school has taken out insurance policies as supplements to the yellow health insurance

and the private insurances of the families. The luggage of the learners are not covered by these insurances.

The school offers a ”group cancellation insurance”, which covers the self-payment. This can be higher than the

ticket price for the longer journeys. As this is a collective pool, the compensation will represent a relative share

of the total pool and the maximum sum of the self-payment.

The optional group cancellation insurance is to be paid with the 1st rate of the self-payment: 350 DKK.

Vaccinations, and medicine is not included.

Learners are responsible for getting the recommended vaccinations.

Check www.sikkerrejse.dk/vaccinationsanbefaling for more information. And Book your appointment with the

doctor in good time (3-4 days before).

REMEMBER that your passport must be valid for more than 6 months after your return date.

All passports must be handed in at the office, so we are able book flights and visa.
