Welcoming MessageOn behalf of the organizing committee of the 2018 Photonics North Conference I welcome you to this year’s event in the cosmopolitan city of Montreal. This is our 20th event. Photonics have considerably evolved since 1994 when we had our first conference in Toronto, and Photonics North has become the main Photonics event on North America.

In the 21st century, photonics takes center stage just as the 20th century was the era of electronics. Your participation and contribution to this event assists in this technological transformation.

The objective of the conference is to close the gap between theory and applications and have University research move closer to developing industrial products. We are pleased with the participation of leading researchers who share their results at this event and of the industry that present the latest products in the exhibits area. The contributions of research at this conference from year to year are on the rise.

You will find that the technical program makes new inroads in the field. The technical committee, headed by Professors Jose Azana of EMT-INRS and Ebrahim Karimi of the University of Ottawa has done an outstanding job in compiling the conference technical program. I anticipate that you will be very pleased with their work.

Enjoy the conference, Montreal and the upcoming summer and we hope to see all of you again next year, in 2019, in Quebec City.
