L'insieme romano dei più di trenta cori, provenienti da ogni parte del mondo, come anche lacontemporanea presenza di celebri solisti e strumentisti, è un immagine positivamente alternativa a quel-la suggerita dalle lotte odiose che colpiscono l'umanità di oggi. - Sono, perciò, felice di poter salutare tuttii membri dei cori, i solisti, gli ensembles ed i componenti dell'Orchestra Sinfonica di Malmö. Con la loro pre-senza alla Musica Sacra a Roma 2005 ci regalano una testimonianza preziosa e convincente: l'onere dellacostruzione del Mondo Uno e la fedeltà a questo nobile progetto è ancora evidente in tutti i continenti del-la Terra. - Il punto di partenza di questo contributo individuale e comunitario a favore di una umanità sanaè la gioia collegata all'opera ammirata di Dio, alla Redenzione, alla Vita senza tramonto. - E' da augurareche Musica Sacra a Roma 2005 possa servire a molti come sostegno ed arrichimento spirituale e rivelareal mondo che i cantanti e musicisti, con il loro amore per l'arte dei suoni, nella nostra epoca minacciata,attuano una grande missione di grazia.

The cooperation in Rome of more than thirty choirs from all parts of the world, as well as the si-multaneous presence of great soloists and musicians, is a counterbalance to the conflict and the odiousstruggles which burden and terrorize humanity today. Therefore I am happy to greet all the choir members,the soloists, the ensembles and the members of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra who, with their participa-tion in "Musica Sacra a Roma", give us valuable evidence of the effort to create ONE world and show thatfaith in this target is present in all the continents of the world. - The motivation of this both individual andcommon contribution for the benefit of an intact humanity is the joy in God's creation, in the salvation, inthe boundless and everlasting life. “Ogni forma autentica d’arte è, a suo modo, una via d’accesso alla realtà più profonda dell’uomoe del mondo”, scrive Papa Giovanni Paolo II nella sua Lettera agli Artisti (n. 6). Infatti, in un mondo facil-mente sedotto dal materialismo, la Musica, e, soprattutto il canto in comune, sono un valido contributo al-la ricerca di una sempre maggiore armonia fra i popoli, della pace universale.

Con gioia prendo atto della presenza, a Roma, dei numerosi cori provenienti da ogni parte del mon-do che partecipano alla bella iniziativa “Musica Sacra a Roma 2005”. Al nuovo Festival ed ai suoi organiz-zatori – la Interkultur e la Kierdorf media & eventservice della Germania e l’Academia Musicae Pro MundoUno di Roma –, nonché a tutti i cori e artisti presenti, vanno i miei auguri più sinceri, invocando la benedi-zione di Dio onnipotente.

In a world where man is easily led astray by ma-terialism, music, especially voices raised jointly in song, is a valuable contribution to greater harmony andglobal peace among the peoples of the world.

It is with great pleasure that I have learned of the presence of numerous choirs from all over theworld in Rome. These choirs have come together to celebrate the festival “Musica Sacra a Roma 2005”.To this new festival and its organisers - Interkultur and Kierdorf Media & Event Service from Germany andthe Akademia Musicae Uno from Rome – as well as to all of the choirs and artists present I wish to extendmy warmest wishes. È veramente emozionante poter vivere un’esperienza come il primo festival internazionale“Musica Sacra a Roma”. Noi della Fondazione INTERKULTUR siamo estremamente lieti di avere un cosìalto numero di cori internazionali iscritti.

Vorrei esprimere il mio ringraziamento ai nostri due partner. Abbiamo avuto il piacere di colla-borare con l’”Academia Musicæ Pro Mundo Uno”, un’associazione di primo piano per quanto riguarda l’or-ganizzazione di concerti a Roma e in Vaticano. Nella Basilica di San Pietro l'umanità e l'arte si trasformano in un cosmo di trascendente spiritua-lità. Questo santuario manifesta un carattere del tutto particolare, che va oltre tutti i confini delle confes-sioni e delle ideologie. Poter aprire il festival «Musica Sacra a Roma» in questo luogo, con una solenne Mes-sa nel segno dell'ecumene, è per noi tutti un grande onore.

Personalmente considero le mie esecuzioni in Vaticano e nelle chiese di Roma come coronamentodella mia carriera artistica e sono felice, che tanti miei colleghi mi hanno seguito a Roma con entusiasmo.Non è facile operare una scelta fra i tanti programmi proposti, ma sono certo che l'animazione musicale del-la Santa Messa nella Basilica di San Pietro con varie parti del Requiem "Oratio Spei" di Juraj Filas, dedica-to alle vittime del terrorismo e delle guerre nel mondo, rimarrà per sempre nei miei più preziosi ricordi.

Dobbiamo la nascita di questo festival anzitutto a Sua Eminenza Paul Cardinale Poupard, che haconcesso il patrocinio; ma anche al M° Josef Juhar, presidente dell'Academia Musicæ Pro Mundo Uno diRoma. Ad entrambi vanni i miei più sentiti ringraziamenti.

In St. Peter's Cathedral humankind and arts are unified to a cosmos of overall spirituality. The Ca-thedral's character itself exceeds the limits of all confessions and ideologies. It is a great honor for all ofus to celebrate the opening and closing ceremony of the festival "Musica Sacra a Roma" with an ecume-nical church service at this place. Musicians from all over the world will come to Rome to create concertsin the ecumenical sense during the festival "Musica Sacra a Roma".

It was one of the most important moments of my career, to play at the Vatican and the churchesof Rome. For me it is a very big pleasure that so many of my colleagues came to Rome, guided by my en-thusiasm. If I had to point out one special performance of the whole festival, it would be very difficult forme, but certainly the Requiem "Oratio Spei" of Juraj Filas in honor of the victims of terror and war in theworld, will become an unforgettable experience for my live.

I have to express my sincere gratitude that the festival could take place, to our Patron Cardinal PaulPoupard and Mo Josef Juhar President «Academia Musicæ Pro Mundo Uno» for all their efforts.

Connecting BridgesThe First International Choir Competition of Buda-pest, which was launched in 1988, was the start ofone of the largest and most successful series of cul-tural events in Europe.The name of these novel choir competitions and fe-stivals, MUSICA MUNDI, has meanwhile becomeknown throughout the world for its high artistic andorganisational standards and has become a conceptfor the choir-orientated public, with enthusiastic fol-lowers all over the world. These events are organi-zed by the non-profit organisation INTERKULTURFoundation.The Foundation’s biggest success so far,was to bring the antique Olympic idea to the choralworld. The Choir Olympics 2000 in Linz (Austria),2002 in Busan (South Korea) and 2004 in Bremen(Germany) were also the start of a new Choir Olym-pic movement.

The Idea MUSICA MUNDI has become the symbol for a uni-que artistic idea, which consists of a new interpre-tation concerning the execution of choir festivals: Incomparison to the meritorious traditional choir com-petitions, where only those choirs which belong tothe international elite compete, the MUSICA MUNDIcompetitions are open for the first time to all choirsthat are interested in gaining international festivaland competition experience and want to be able tocompare themselves with other choirs. The artisticcommittee of INTERKULTUR places emphasis on thepresence of the highest level of choral performersas well as on the presence of the greatest diversityof choral performers in all competitions. This newtype of competition was successfully adopted by nu-merous newly launched competitions in the last fewyears.

The Pedagogical Concept The MUSICA MUNDI events are not just competitionsand international choir festivals, they gain their com-petence and lasting effect on its participants moreand more by pedagogical offers. In consultation

rounds, for example, the choirs have the chance towork together with the international jury and to getadvice on their current level of performance, com-petent pedagogical and artistic information and sug-gestions as to how to interpret the chosen piece. Inconnection with those conventions, seminars forconductors, composer portraits and lectures arebeing offered at the MUSICA MUNDI events. Friends-hip and encounter concerts reinforce this big emo-tional effect of the international choir-meetings or-ganized by INTERKULTUR Foundation.

The CompetitionsThere are various categories for all choir types andchoir levels in different degrees of difficulty, with andwithout compulsory pieces. They offer a uniqueatmosphere, good competitive conditions, intensiveartistic contacts, various consultation programs andworkshops, as well as practice opportunities withinternational performers. More than 400 experts andleading choirmasters from all over the world gua-rantee a high level of qualified competence in all MU-SICA MUNDI events.

Locations of Festivals and Competitions So far MUSICA MUNDI events have been taken pla-ce in different cities of Austria, Czech Republic, Ger-many, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Malta, Republic of Ko-rea, Sweden and USA.

The Participants In total, 2.750 choirs with 125.000 active singersfrom 87 countries have taken part in the MUSICAMUNDI competitions to date. It is interesting to no-te that 70% of the participants are under the age of30.

INTERKULTUR Foundation is supporting mem-ber of the German Commission of UNESCO.

Un Ponte per IncontrarsiIl 1° Concorso Corale di Budapest la cui prima edi-zione risale al 1988 ha dato vita ad una delle più im-portanti serie di manifestazioni culturali d’Europa,denominata MUSICA MUNDI, che è diventato ormaiun nome famoso in tutto il mondo grazie all’alto li-vello raggiunto sia sotto il profilo artistico che orga-nizzativo nonché punto di riferimento della coralitàinternazionale.Il più grande successo della Fondazione INTERKUL-TUR, organizzatrice di questi eventi musicali, è sta-ta l’idea di applicare l’antico ideale olimpico ad unacon una manifestazione corale dalla quale sono na-te le Olimpiadi corali nel 2000 a Linz (Austria), nel2002 in Busan (Corea del sud) e 2004 in Bremen(Germania), che segnano anche il momento d’iniziodi un movimento corale olimpico.

L’ideaMUSICA MUNDI è divenuto ormai sinonimo di unconcetto artistico unico nel suo genere, poiché haintrodotto una novità rispetto al passato. Mentre im-portanti concorsi corali tradizionali sono riservatisoltanto a cori appartenenti ad un’élite a livello inter-nazionale, MUSICA MUNDI, collocandosi parallela-mente alla forma tradizionale, apre le porte del con-fronto artistico a tutti i cori desiderosi di vivere l’es-perienza del concorso e del festival in campo inter-nazionale come momento di crescita.Uno dei valori ai quali il Comitato artistico di INTER-KULTUR tiene maggiormente, è che all’interno delleproprie manifestazioni possano trovare spazio sia imigliori gruppi, sia la grande massa dei cori. Que-sta scelta artistica è stata ripresa da numerosi con-corsi sorti in questi ultimi anni.

La funzione pedagogicaLe manifestazioni di MUSICA MUNDI non sono peròsolamente concorsi e festival internazionali. Mo-mento di grande interesse per i cori partecipanti co-stituiscono anche le numerose offerte di perfezio-namento fondate su una grande competenza arti-stica e pedagogica.

Durante la fase della consultazione per esempio, icori hanno la possibilità di lavorare insieme a giurieinternazionali ricevendo opinioni in merito al livelloartistico nonché preziosi consigli pedagogico-arti-stici per affrontare meglio l’interpretazione del pro-gramma scelto.Parallelamente ai concorsi si organizzano quindi tral’altro congressi , seminari per direttori di coro, cor-si di perfezionamento, conferenze di compositori edesperti della scena corale mondiale su temi speci-fici. I concerti e i suggestivi canti a cori uniti dei par-tecipanti accentuano ancora di più il momento emo-zionante tipico degli incontri internazionali di INTER-KULTUR

I concorsiIl nuovo concetto di base si concretizza nella realiz-zazione di concorsi che offrono più categorie diviseper gradi di difficoltà per tutti i tipi di coro con o sen-za brani d’obbligo. In essi si vive un’atmosfera uni-ca, in cui si offrono condizioni di partecipazione van-taggiose, dense occasioni di contatti artistici, inter-essanti seminari e consultazioni con esperti primae dopo la prova in concorso vera e propria. Più di400 tra esperti e direttori di coro in campo interna-zionale garantiscono la professionalità che contrad-distingue le manifestazioni di MUSICA MUNDI.

I luoghi delle manifestazioniFinora i festival di MUSICA MUNDI si sono svolti inAustria, Corea del Sud, Germania, Israele, Italia, Mal-ta, Repubblica Ceca, Svezia, Ungheria e negli USA.

I partecipanti2.750 cori con più di 125.000 coriste e coristi pro-venienti da 87 paesi hanno preso parte fino ad og-gi ai concorsi di MUSICA MUNDI. Curiosità interes-sante: il 70% circa dei partecipanti non raggiunge i30 anni di età.

Con il "Centro per la rinnovazione di S.StefanoRotondo" - la più grande Chiesa a pianta centralepaleocristiana dell'Europa (V.s.) - ha preso vital'iniziativa del teologo e musicista ungherese JosefJuhar a favore di una Ecumene mondiale fondatasulla Musica e i suoi significati.

Con l'«Accademia Musicale Ottorino Respighi»(A.M.O.R.), da lui fondata a Roma nel 1978 assiemea protagonisti di spicco della vita musicale interna-zionale come Antal Doráti, Nino Rota, Elsa Respighi,Carlo Zecchi, Antonino Albarosa ed altri - istituzioneche cambia la denominazione, nel 1996, in «Acade-mia Musicæ Pro Mundo Vno»

Juhar prosegue l'iniziativa ecumenica: con il festi-val estivo «Festa Mvsica Pro Mvndo Vno», i corsi diinterpretazione, il progetto riguardante l'introduzio-ne del Sistema di educazione musicale 'Kodály' nel-la scuola dell'obbligo in Italila, e, soprattutto, con gliincontri internazionali corali «Mundus cantat».

Il costante impegno dell'Accademia a favore di unaEuropa riunita, consapevole e forte delle sue radicicristiane, trova una conferma chiara da parte del Pa-pa Giovanni Paolo II, tramite la sua presenza ai 12concerti a Castelgandolfo (1988.2001), offerti dal-l'Accademia in suo omaggio.

L'attività dell' Accademia gode del patrocinio delpresidente dell'Assemblea Parlamentare del Consi-glio d'Europa e del presidente del "Pontificio Consi-glio della Cultura", Paul Cardinale Poupard.

The commitment of the Hungarian musician and the-ologian Josef Juhar towards worldwide ecumenismsupported by the means of music began with the"Centre for the Renovation of S. Stefano Rotondo",the largest early Christian round church in Europesituated on Monte Celio in Rome (5th century).

The "Accademia Musicale Ottorino Respighi"(A.M.O.R.) was founded in Rome in 1978 by JosefJuhar and personalities of the international world ofmusic such as Antal Doráti, Nina Rota, Elsa Respig-hi, Carlo Zecchi, Antonino Albarosa and others, andwas renamed "Academia Musicae Pro Mundo Uno"in 1996.

With its summer festival "Festa Musica Pro MundoUno", its master classes, its effort to introduce theKodály music education system in Italian schools,especially however with its international choir mee-ting "Mundus Cantat" it continues Juhar's aim ofthe sixties.

The deliberate commitment of the Academy towardsone united Europe conscious of its Christian rootswas rewarded by the presence of Pope John Paul IIat the 12 special concerts (1988-2001) offered tohim by the Academy at Castelgandolfo.

The activity of the Academy stands under the pa-tronage of the President of the Parliamentary As-sembly of the European Council and that of the Pre-sident of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Paul Car-dinal Poupard.

He was born in 1954 in Budapest, studied choraland orchestral conducting at the Liszt Academy ofMusic and later attended the masterclasses of Lász-ló Somogyi, Eric Ericson and Kurt Masur. He hasbeen the choral director of the Budapest AcademicChoral Society since 1980. During the past 20 yearshis choir was the winner of almost all reputed Eu-ropean Choir competitions. The Grand Prize at theBéla Bartók International Choir Competition in De-brecen and the title “Choir of the World” in Llangol-len was awarded to his choir.Since 1989 he has been principal conductor, since2001 Music Director of the Dohnányi Symphony Or-chestra Budafok, the youngest Hungarian profes-sional symphony orchestra. In 1995 he held a con-ducting class at the IFCM European Symposium inLjubljana. He is sought after as guest conductorthroughout the world and he regularly holds cour-ses for choral conductors. Since 2001 he has beenMusic Director of Honvéd Ensemble. He has beenPrincipal Guest Conductor of the Jerusalem Sym-phony Orchestra since 2002, and Musical Advisor ofthe Philharmonia Singers Tel Aviv. Ralf Eisenbeiß, nato nel 1952, dopo il conseguimentodella maturità ha studiato pedagogia, filologia ger-manica ed educazione musicale alla Scuola Super-iore di Pedagogia di Zwickau diplomandosi nel 1979.Dal 1978 al 1981 ha studiato direzione di coro e d’-orchestra alla Scuola Superiore di Musica Franz Lisztdi Weimar. Nel 1987 ha iniziato l’attività di inseg-nante di canto corale e direzione di coro.É stato direttore del Coro della Scuola Superiore diPedagogia di Zwickau, con il quale ha conseguitonumerosi premi in concorsi nazionali e internazio-nali. Nel suo repertorio, accanto alla letteratura acappella dei diversi secoli troviamo anche opere dicompositori contemporanei –e grandi lavori sinfoni-co corali.È stato docente al seminario centrale per direttori dicoro di Berlino e ha tenuto numerosi corsi di perfe-zionamento. É spesso direttore ospite in patria eall’estero, tra gli altri ha diretto il Coro della TrinityWestern University a Vancouver in Canada.È direttore artistico del Concorso Corale Internazio-nale Robert Schumann di Zwickau, inoltre è mem-bro del Comitato artistico della INTERKULTUR Foun-dation nonché uno dei direttori artistici delle Olim-piadi Corali.

Ralf Eisenbeiß was born in 1952. He studied peda-gogy, German philology and musical education andreceived his doctorate in 1979.From 1978 to 1981, he studied choir and orchestraconducting at the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Wei-mar and was appointed professor in 1987.He was conductor of the renowned Pedagogical Uni-versity Zwickau Choir with which he won numerousprizes at national and international choir competi-tions with an extensive repertoire ranging from acappella literature from different centuries, moderncomposers as well as great choral symphonic works.He was lecturer at the central seminar for choralconductors in Berlin. He often appears as guest con-ductor at home and abroad, i.e., with the choir ofthe Trinity Western University in Vancouver, Canada.Ralf Eisenbeiß is the artistic director of the Inter-national Robert Schumann Choir Competition inZwickau, and member of the Artistic Committee ofthe INTERKULTUR Foundation as well as one of theartistic directors of the Choir Olympics.

Ha studiato organo, composizione e direzione dicoro e si è specializzato in paleografia e filologiamusicale presso l’Università degli studi di Pavia.

Membro della Commissione artistica della FENIAR-CO, è presente nelle giurie dei più importanti con-corsi nazionali e internazionali e nella giuria delleOlimpiadi Corali.

Giovanni Acciai was born in 1946. He teaches mu-sical history and early music semiography at theConservatory “G. Verdi“ Milan.

He studied organ, composition and choir conductingand got a specialisation in music paleography andphilology at Pavia University.

He is director of the didactic magazine of choir mu-sic “La Cartellina“. He has published several articlesand reviews on early music, musical essays and cri-tics.

At present Giovanni Acciai conducts the “Solisti delmadrigale“ and the “Collegium vocale nova ars cant-andi“.

He is member of the artistic commission of FENI-ARCO and member of the jury in the most importantnational and international choir contests and of theChoir Olympic Jury.

Aurelio Porfiri è direttore musicale nella chiesa diSanta Susanna (Roma).

Si è diplomato in Musica Corale presso il Conser-vatorio San Pietro a Maiella di Napoli. È direttoredei Santa Susanna Singers, un ottetto di cantoriprofessionisti. Ha diretto il coro femminile ReginaPacis (ora Laudis Vox).

Dal 1993 diviene organista sostituto della Basilicadi San Pietro in Vaticano ed è l’organista incarica-to per l’udienza generale del mercoledì del SantoPadre.

Come compositore ha scritto oratori, messe, mot-tetti ed inni. Contribuisce con articoli sulla musicaliturgica in varie riviste e ha anche collaborato convari editori.

Graduated in choral music from the Conservatoriodi San Pietro a Maiella in Naples, he directs theSanta Susanna Singers (a professional ensemble),as well as the women's choir, Laudis Vox.

In 1993 he became vice organist at St. Peter's Ba-silica and he is now the organist-in-charge ofthe papal audiences.

Boris Tevlin, direttore di coro e docente, si è diplo-mato con una menzione d’onore nel 1957 al Con-servatorio di Mosca.

Ha diretto il Coro giovanile studentesco di Moscaper 40 anni con il quale ha conseguito successivincendo molte competizioni nazionali e interna-zionali. Punti culminanti della sua carriera di in-segnante e direttore comprendono: la direzionedel Coro del Conservatorio di Mosca dal 1979 al1991, la formazione dell’eccellente Coro Misto deiDirettori di Coro Russi e la fondazione del Coro daCamera del Conservatorio Statale di Musica Caj-kovskij di Mosca nel 1994.

Oltre alla direzione corale e al suo impiego comeResponsabile del Dipartimento di Direzione Coraledel Conservatorio di Mosca, Boris Tevlin ha colla-borato in veste di giurato in occasione di concorsicorali internazionali.

Gli è stato conferito il Premio dello Stato Russo edè stato nominato “Artista del Popolo” della Federa-zione Russa.

Boris Tevlin, choral conductor and educator, gra-duated from the Moscow Conservatory with anhonours degree in 1957.

During 40 years of directing the Moscow Chorusof Youth and Students, he successfully lead themto win many International Chorus Competitions.Highlights of his teaching and conducting careerinclude: conducting Moscow Conservatory’s stu-dent chorus from 1979 –1991, establishing a re-markable Mixed Chorus of Russian conductors,and founding the Chamber Chorus of the Tschai-kovsky Moscow State Conservatory in 1994.

In addition to directing choirs and holding the postas Head of the Choral Conducting Department ofMoscow University, Professor Tevlin has also ser-ved as a jury member of International Competi-tions.

He was awarded the State prize of Russia and al-so officially named “People’s artist” of the RussianFederation.

Hubertus Weimer è nato nel 1960. All’età di 16anni ha ricevuto la sua prima formazione in dire-zione corale presso i “Limburger Domsingkna-ben”. Dal 1978 al 1983 ha studiato alla ScuolaSuperiore di Musica di Francoforte conseguendo ildiploma in Musica Sacra con specializzazione inDirezione di coro sotto la guida dei professori Hel-muth Rilling e Wolfgang Schäfer. In seguito ha stu-diato canto con il professor Martin Gründler, pia-noforte con la professoressa Gisela Sott ed im-provvisazione organistica con Rolf Schwickert. Dal1986 al 1990 ha studiato inoltre musicologia, psi-cologia e pedagogia musicale all’Università diGiessen.

In qualità di docente ha svolto l’attività presso i“Limburger Domsingknaben” e al “Musikgymna-sium Rheinland Pfalz” di Montabaur. HubertusWeimer dirige con successo cinque importanti corimaschili ed il coro di bambini e giovanile di Wall-merod, da lui fondato.

È molto richiesto in Germania e all’estero sia co-me giurato che come consulente musicale.

Hubertus Weimer was born in 1960. At the age of16 he started his education in choir conducting atthe Limburger Domsingknaben. From 1978 to1983 Hubertus Weimer studied sacred music atthe Musikhochschule Frankfurt/Main. His mainsubject was choir conducting with Helmut Rillingand Wolfgang Schäfer. In the following he studiedsinging with Prof. Martin Gründler, piano with Prof.Gisela Sott and organ improvisation with RolfSchwickert. From 1986 to 1990 Hubertus Weimerstudied musicology, psychology and music peda-gogic at the University of Giessen.

Il canone, dedicato all'amico Josef Juhar, è stato composto dal direttore d'orchestra e presidente onorariodell'Accademia, Sir Antal Doráti, il 3 luglio 1966 a Strobl in Svizzera.

The canon was composed on 3rd July 1966 in Strobl, Switzerland, by Sir Antal Doráti, the conductor andlongstanding honorary president of the Academy. It was dedicated to his friend Josef Juhar.

Il canone viene intonato una prima volta dalle quattro voci all'unisono interamente; in seguito, esso viene intonato dalle4 singole voci seguendo gli attacchi indicati in partitura (1, 2, 3, 4).The canon will be sung through once by all four voices. Then it will be sung four times as a canon (Entry 1, 2, 3, 4)
