  • Dear Students,

The EMJJA was formed in 1991 and as now become one of the best Associations in the Chesterfield area. I am the founder, chairman and head coach with Charlie Shaw being the vice chairman and the chief instructor we have over 65 years experience in martial arts between us. There are 6 clubs throughout the Chesterfield and Nottinghamshire area which all have qualified black belt instructors that are crb checked & insured.

The style of Jiu-Jitsu we teach is Atemi Jiu-Jitsu which means striking vital parts of the body this is a very traditional and old style of jiu-jitsu. It is a defensive style of Jiu-Jitsu and is very effective. I think the only way to define Jiu-Jitsu is to say it is a mixture of all other martial arts put together.

We hold an inter club tournament every year this is Katamwaza, Randori competition for all ages and grades which is held at Northwingfield. We also pick a team to go to the Nationals in April at Wallsal. We’ve had some good results, in the past few years, we have won gold medals.

The EMJJA has a good team of people who are doing a good job to keep us up to the good standards we have achieved. The black belt instructors we have senior and junior are doing a great job of teaching to a good standard.

For more information just ask any of the EMJJA black belts.

    Regards

    Hanshi John Rake

    DAVID HEY

Nowadays it is hard to imagine that Dronfield ever had any connection with the Derbyshire Lead Industry.

It comes as a surprise to most people to hear that the oldest houses in the town and surrounding countryside
