On September 6, 2017 at 11:00 am the Chapter will
Commemorate 100 years since WWI with a memorial at the

members of our community, and the placing a DAR Medallion
at her gravesite.
We will then walk one block to the WWI monument at
Oakwood for the laying of a wreath commemorating WWI.
New Members & New Horizons Courses
New Members and New Horizons training modules are now being offered online. Both the New Members Course and New Horizons Course are state-sponsored and NSDAR-supported activities to inspire and motivate new members and future or present leaders to explore the opportunities and possibilities DAR has to offer. The online learning modules are only a part of the New Members and the New Horizons courses, and participants must work with their State Coordinator to complete the additional requirements and graduate from their respective course in their state. For more information about these courses and the topics they cover, visit the following website: http://www.dar.org/members/committees/national-committees/membership/training-modules

plants to her garden…butterfly bush, purple coneflower
and butterfly weed. Anne’s photo of purple coneflower

This year, N.S.C.A.R. will be
“Browsing History” by raising funds
for the creation of James Monroe
Online (JMO) in a partnership with
James Monroe’s Highland and the
University of William and Mary.
JMO will be a free and open online
portal to access images and
searchable transcriptions of the
archival collections devoted to our
nation’s fifth president, James
Monroe.
James Monroe once said, “It is by
a thorough knowledge of the whole
subject that our fellow-citizens are
enabled to judge correctly of the past
and to give a proper direction to the
future.” JMO addresses what has
been a major impediment to Monroe
scholarship to date by giving
scholars and laypeople alike access
to the comprehensive works of
James Monroe in a single free-
access portal.
Please join N.S.C.A.R in
digitizing the works of the last
founding father. Together we can
expand the legacy, knowledge, and
appreciation of James Monroe and
his lifetime commitment to public
service.
The Job Winslow Chapter is inviting
the members of the CAR to join them
at the Botanic Garden Tours on
Saturday, August 19, a free lunch is
included.
A short meeting of CAR will
follow after the tour with Ginger
Carrick, chair.
Michigan DAR State Officers Nominated for 2018-21
