Introduction :
The chosen theme for this semesters PED course is refurbishment of Faculty of Architecture,
Planning and Surveying, UiTM Shah Alam. The course will provide opportunities for the final yearundergraduates to work as a team in producing a suitable proposal to plan, design and develop project
which is beneficial to the client.
Background:
In 1971 the School of Arts and Architecture had undergone major reorganisation, and this led
to the establishment of two separate schools; one, which emphasized on the built environment,
and the other on the arts and design. Subsequently, the built environment school was named asthe School of Architecture, Planning and Surveying which was later known as the Faculty of

Architecture, Planning and Surveying. However, the Malay acronym "FSPU" (which stands
for Fakulti Senibina, Perancangan dan Ukur) is commonly used within UiTM.
Located at Shah Alam and within the Klang Valley, the faculty has gained its reputation as
one of the pioneering institutions which offered courses in the field of the built environment.At present, the faculty comprises 11 academic deparments running 29 academic programmes
ranging from diploma, undergraduate to postgraduate level of study. Currently, the studentpopulation exceeds 11,000 undertaking courses in Shah Alam, Seri Iskandar, Arau and KotaSamarahan campuses. In view of this development, there is a need to upgrade the faculty to a
better standard in terms of providing infrastructure and facilities. This measure will enable the
faculty and staff to move forward for achieving the mission to place UiTM in the world map.
Project Requirement
Undergraduates are required to prepare a proposal to Board of Excutive, UiTM Shah Alam.Among the elements to be considered for development are:
1. Accessibility
2. Circulation/parking
3. Public Amenities4. Security
5. Facility for Disable
6. Commercial areas7. Sanitary System and Health
8. Administrative Buildings/Library/Lecture Theatre/Studio/Classroom
9. Sport Facilities
10. Recreational Facilities11. Training/IT Center/Child Care Center/R&D Center
12. Others ( add-on components which compliment the development)
Objectives
1. To promote creative ideas in redesigning of complex for future use.
2. To expose students with the technique and procedure of refurbishment project.
3. To evaluate the economic impact from the project.
4. To study the legislatives planning, procedures and process of refurbishment.5. To identify the benefits of project to the students, faculty and Uitm.
6. To identify various activities can be held to promote the faculty.
Scope
1. Upon embarking the LRT project, Uitm has been given a grant to upgrade
the facilities for the University. You are the Design and Built Contractor who

is required to prepare a proposal based on the Clients need statement and
submitted to the Board of Executive, UiTM Shah Alam for approval. The
complex shall be refurbished to accommodate 5000 students and 500
lecturers. You are required to upgrade the existing buildings and
infrastructure works due to parking problems. You are also required to apply
new concept of development such as Sustainability, IBS, Renewable Resourcesand ensure to 50% of the area is still Green.
Task
2. Students have to work in group, maximum of5 members.
3. With the assistance of supervisors, students are required to perform site visit
(Local or Oversea) for initial study related to the theme.
4. To choose the FSPU actual site for the development.5. To perform group presentation during the interim evaluation and at the end of
semester and submit comprehensive project proposal on the day of presentation.
