Description

Partner:This is the 11th time that the community of Lauterbach invites a workcamp Above all, the local host is very happy tobe supported by a workcamp at different environmental and construction tasks in a nature protection area

Work:A variety of tasks are waiting for your help. One task will be the maintenance of a hiking trail in the forest. So-calledneophytes (invasive non-native vegetation) need to be removed in the nature protection area. You will cut and clearthose plants. Furthermore, cleaning and clearing of vegetation needs to be done in biotopes like ponds and tarns. You will, most likely, also repair fences and maintain grasslands around fruit trees. Be prepared for hard physicalwork Due to working in damp and steep areas (ponds), rubber boots and/or sturdy shoes are necessary for workingeffectively

Accomodation and food:The workcamp team will stay in a nice community house in the middle of the forest, where you can find sanitaryfacilities, showers and a well-equipped kitchen. You can have a look at their website: http://moosenmaettleweb.de.There are 4-bed-rooms for you. Due to the position of the house in a very rural area, it is likely that there will not beaccess to internet and no coverage for mobile phones. Just be prepared to spend three wonderful, adventurousweeks away from your busy and usual everyday life.

Location and leisure:: Lauterbach is situated in the heart of the Black Forest nature park, close to Schramberg and the town Rottweil. There are many possibilities to hike and experience nature first hand. Just step out the door and find yourselfsurrounded by beautiful nature On weekends, you ll have the chance to visit Rottweil or the university town ofFreiburg.

Description

Partner:In the middle of the Black Forest you can find a small and pretty community called Schenkenzell , which is about750 years old and was mainly busy in mining and agriculture business and is known for its monastery and floatingtree stems. Today Schenkenzell is more of a residential municipality and a destination for tourists i since the regionis plastered with hiking trails and a well-known brewery is to be found in the next town. Even though agriculture andfarming has almost died out completely, Schenkenzell is still surrounded by meadows and land. 10 km outside of thecommunity you can find a biotope, formerly used as meadow for the animals. It will be the 5th time thatSchenkenzell invites a workcamp and they are always very happy to welcome the volunteers.

Work:During the workcamp you will participate in two projects. A new sports ground was recently build in the community;in order to counterbalance the effects from that new construction onto nature, it is necessary to take care of theneighbouring meadows by transforming them into wet meadows. This is especially very important since latelysummers have been very dry. It will be physical work and you should bring sturdy and ideally water proof shoes withyou. The second project you ll be working in will include the restauration of a refuge. You will for example helpredoing the roof and do some maintenance work at the barbecue area in front of the hut.

Accomodation and food:You will live in the centre of the village in the gym hall which is a suitable place since it has beds, showers and akitchen to offer. The hall is also normally used for different kinds of activities, parties and events. All necessarythings can be found in Schenkenzell itself (bakery, pharmacy, a little supermarket and a public swimming pool). Forproper shopping there are bigger supermarkets around 5 km away.

Location and leisure:Schenkenzell is a quite small community; nonetheless it has a lot to offer. It is a perfect starting point for excursionsand hiking trips into the surrounding Black Forest. You can visit the brewery or cities like Freiburg and Strasbourg.Anyway, it may be most entertaining and interesting to get to know the local population throughout the weeks.NEXTAIRPORT: Karlsruhe (Baden-Baden), Stuttgart or Basel-Mulhouse.

Description

Partner:Several organizations of the German peace movement are currently running a campaign to ban the last nuclearweapons which are stationed in Germany. In the eighties huge protests out of the civil society has been successfuland most of the intermediate-range missile, called Pershing II, has been disarmed in Germany. But the treaty wasjust this February canceled by the US and Russia. In our world there are still more than 14.000 nuclear weaponsremaining! The peace-workshop Friedenswerkstatt Mutlangen invites international volunteers from East and West tostudy peace and support activities against nuclear weapons. The workcamp will start in Mutlangen, a former location of nuclear missiles, 40 km east of Stuttgart. There theblockades against the missiles have been successful. In the second part we move on to the military air-baseBuechel on the Eifel hills, where still nuclear weapons are stationed. Participants will get to know and discuss historyand actual questions of nuclear disarmament, trust-building and non violence. All volunteers are invited to stay in the resistance camp until 16th of July. If you are interested please contact campleader. The campaign: Twenty nuclear bombs are still kept in the airbase Buechel. They belong to the US Army and in caseof war, they would be flown by German pilots on the command of the president of the USA. Instead of abolished, asthe international law demands, these weapons are going to be upgraded. The campaign Buechel is everywhere -Global Zero Now demands the stop of the so called modernization of the bombs, the removal from Germany and alegal ban of all nuclear weapons. The campaign is part of ICAN, (International Campaign to abolish NuclearWeapons), which got the Nobel Peace Prize few years ago.

Work:Volunteers are invited to join our campaigns and activities for promoting peace during the time of the workcamp. Youwill help us through your participation and through some manual and artistic work: In Mutlangen we will havepromoting actions for a peaceful world in the Rems garden show. We will have a peace bicycle ride 40 km along theriver Rems. And together we will design and create an artistic installation for the so called peace meadow in Buecheland support the campaign against the remaining nuclear weapons. We believe that campaigns for nucleardisarmament and nonviolence conflict resolution are messages worth to be spread in the media. We invite you tolearn from best examples in peace building and to help us to share these examples in social media as messages ofpeace. If possible you can translate them into your language. Such skills are particularly welcome!Study part: Volunteers will receive information about nuclear weapons, ongoing nuclear armament programs andefforts of disarmament and reconciliation. We will share experiences about different forms of action for peace. Asthere will be contacts to German native speakers, workcamp is good possibility to improve your German languageskills.

Description

Partner:Since many years now we offer this successful workcamp together with the protestant community center"Petrusgemeinde". The international volunteers are invited to the Asylum Centre for two weeks to take part in thedaily life of the refugees. In the study part of the camp, we want to inform about the situation of refugees in Germanyand Europe, as well as the current developments in the area of Asylum-policies. We want you to get in contact withthe residents of the Asylum Centre so that we can learn about their stories, difficulties and perspectives. The Asylum Centres for asylum seekers in Hessen are located at the edge of the city Giessen. There are currentlyaround 600 asylum-seekers hosted in former army barracks. The refugees are in Germany because of variousreasons, e.g. political, ethnic and religious persecution or poverty. Usually they stay at the facility for few monthsuntil a decision has been made about their application. Sometimes they are sent to other centers or to other safecountries where they entered the European Union, or to their countries of origin. Most of the people living in theAsylum Centres in Giessen are from Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Eritrea and Balkan countries: Young men, women, children and older people. The asylum seekers live in simple conditions and are not allowed to work orleave the district in which they live. Their permission to stay in Germany often is limited and so is their contact withthe locals living in the city.

Work:Together with the refugees we want to organize common activities, where the women and children are taken intoconsideration. In addition, our goal is to get in contact with the young members of the local protestant church to raisegreater awareness for the refugees and to break the isolation of the refugees. We will prepare contact with studentsof the university that are willing to take care of the medical issues of the refugees and to pursue the legal issues ofthe asylum law. We will also get in contact with students of the University who medicate people without legal status. We especially invite volunteers to participate, who are able to speak Turkish, Arabic or Farsi. Besides organizingcommon activities with the refugees, we plan to construct some furniture made from old palettes together. They canbe used outside, and will be nucleus of a meeting point of the inhabitants of the center.

Accomodation and food:The workcamp will be hosted by a local protestant church which is already involved in working with the refugees. The premises of the church are plentiful and volunteers will have a lot of space for sleeping, cooking, dining, relaxing, and for indoor and outdoor activities.

Location and leisure:There are plenty of possibilities for leisure time activities: playing football or canoeing as well as possibilities to visitsome other cities. (e.g. Marburg, Frankfurt or Heidelberg).

Work:Everything in this camp is about the international exchange between you and the children and young people formSolingen. The Solingen Youth Association organises summer holiday activities in different parts of the town withvarious partners for up to 500 children aged between 6 and 13 years old. Your help is needed with carrying outthese holiday activities: together with volunteers from Solingen, you will supervise the children. During theintroduction and communal preparation on Thursday and Friday, we will ask you for some of your own creativeideas: you should bring some of your backgrounds and stories from home with you, so that the primary schoolchildren can learn about other cultures during the activities. Perhaps youll meet some children in Germany who alsocome from different countries or whose parents have moved here. Music, dances, customs, typical food, as well asevery creative and sporty idea you have, are all welcome. Use your skills and get involved! You will also be helpingout during the Brenwoche week. The â¿¿Bÿ¤renwocheâ¿ is a childrens activity week in a hugerecreational facility (https://baerenwoche.blogspot.com/p/startseite.html). On offer are slides, air cushions, hockeysticks, craft ideas and much more. There are playgrounds in Solingen or at children's and youth meetings and thechildren can use the open offer as they wish. Here you will also be helping out with the supervision of the children. Inthe youth centre there will be a welcome festival at the start of the holidays, so that you can get to know the localyoung people. You will be helping to design the festival. We also want to have a meeting with you and the children, where the children will be able to ask you questions, so that the little visitors to our centre will be able to get to knowyou better. We thought of having a group football tournament as well. As you can see, you will never be boredduring this camp. Anyone who wants to organise activities with children is welcome to joins us! There is aregistration fee of 50 EUR for participants who are not from Germany.

Numerous settlement remains from allprehistoric cultural periods have been discovered in the Lahn valley near to the Niederweimar and Argenstein areas. The extensive archaeological evidence proves that there has been a constant settlement in the region for millennia. The first archaeological open-air museum on the history of settlements in the region of Hessen is being set up herein order to display the rich archaeological discoveries. There will be 5 stations on the grounds of the museum, eachdedicated to a certain time period. You will aid the completion of a Germanic residential stable from the early RomanEmpire (around the birth of Jesus Christ). It is likely that a large family or clan lived in this type of house, almost 30min length and around 7m in width, together with their animals. With professional guidance from a team on-site, youwill help with the construction of the house. More specifically, you will be making walls out of wooden wicker andthen plastering them with clay. There could also be an opportunity for you to take part in certain workshops (such asarchery, bronze casting, etc.).

Accomodation and food:You will be staying in a local youth centre in Wolfshausen. The group will prepare and cook meals together.

Location and leisure:You will be stayin.g in Wolfshausen, a district of Weimar (Lahn). It is very rural, but there is a train station inNiederweimar from which you can reach the university town of Marburg, with its numerous attractions, in just 7minutes. Besides this, major cities such as Frankfurt and Kassel are also very easily reachable by train. If youhavent had your fill of archaeology after working, you could also visit the merkastell Saalburg archaeological open-air museum near Frankfurt.

Requirements:The work involved could sometimes be physically demanding. This camp designed for participants who areinterested in archaeology and historical craftsmanship.
