Methodology

506 respondents bringing up children from 6 to 18 years old.

Direct interviews in the respondent’s home representing adults bringing up children from 6 to 18 years old throughout Lithuania (PAPI - paper and pencil interviews).

METHOD:

SAMPLE:

FIELDWORK:

To develop a methodology allowing to evaluate efficiency of the project “Safer Internet” and “Hot line”.

OBJECTIVES:

2005, July the 9th – 27th

QUALITY CONTROL:Interviewer department checked the quality of 10% of interviewer work by

phone. Data input department checked the logic and validity of interviewer work.Data analysis department checked the quality of 10% of questionnaire input.

DATA ANALYSIS:Data analysis was performed using SPSS software.General distributions of responses and breakdowns by social demographical

characteristics are presented in the report .

Sample

Respondents were selected for the research using a multistage random sampling technique. In the first stage a geographical division of the sample is executed. Geographically the size of the sample is based on a general proportional division of residents in various regions. The latest data of the Lithuanian Department of Statistics are applied.

In the second stage, primary sampling points are households (i.e. addresses) from which the route of sampling is started. Addresses are selected randomly using population register of the Lithuanian Department of Statistics.

Then the households that will participate in the survey are selected. The selection is completed by using a route selection technique. Every 5th apartment (house) in urban areas (or every 2nd in rural areas) is visited, starting from primary sampling points.

In a further stage respondents that bring up children from 6 to 18 years old are selected by using the rule of “The Closest Birthday”.

Statistical Error of Data

Example: 506 respondents have answered the question , do they use internet. Out of them 42% answered positively. It means that with confidence of 95 % , we can claim that the true meaning is in the interval of 42% ± 4.3%

When evaluating results statistical error needs to be considered. It appears due to sample size, since survey can not cover an entire general population. The error is calculated mathematically.

The table bellow represents statistical errors of data which varies depending on sample size and distribution of responses.

Socio-demographic Profile of Children

Nearly half of children in the survey, are pupils of secondary school ageing from 10 to 14 years old. Thus input of parents of children in this age group, made the biggest impact on overall results.
