INDEPENDENT private equity firm Energy Ventures has earmarked $200 million to help boost North Sea businesses during challenging times for the oil and gas industry.

The organisation is looking to invest in companies which need access to finance to stabilise their company or to help with continued growth.

Tomas Hvamb, Energy Ventures’ Aberdeen-based investment direc-tor, said: “Energy Ventures is one of the few oil and gas private equity funds investing at this time. In the past 20 months we have made three platform investments in the North Sea and a total of 11 investments including add-ons in the same period.

“The additional funding of $200 million which we have set aside is testament to the commitment we have to the area. We believe in the North Sea and the opportunities it continues to offer for domestic and international growth.

“We look to partner with talented management teams in service and technology companies with high growth potential and seek to invest between $10m-$40m in each company.

“Energy Ventures will invest in proven companies where we can see where our capital can provide a strong capital base to support the company and management in their next growth phase. At a time when activity levels in the industry have been down, many companies are under pressure from the banks to de-lever their balance sheet and we can assist in this.

“By providing additional working capital and by working in partner-ship with them, we can help them move forward positively, while in-vesting in their future.”

Kuwait’s oil fields are connected to 26 gathering centers, which serve as a collection location for crude produced at several wells connected by flowlines, pro-viding initial treatment through the separation of asso-ciated gas and removing salt. The three new gathering centres are needed as part of KOC’s long-term strategy to develop the oil fields of North Kuwait. Project status

The scope of the project involves the construction of 3 gathering centers. Each GC will be designed to handle up-to 100 BPD and up-to 240 MBWPD of wa-ter and 60 MMSCFD of associated gas. Each of the

gathering centers has to be able to meet the following criteria: • Produce oil at 100bpd • Handle water up to a rate of 240MBWPD • Handle gas from wet fluids at upto 60MMSCFD • Oil product must meet the Kuwait exports crude re-quirement • Export water to the central injection pumping facili-ties or disposal • Export gas to lower pressure to BS131 and or BS132 for compression Each of the facilities will be divided into 6 main pro-cess systems: • Gas / Liquid Separation • Oil / Water Separation • Dehydration and desalting • Tank gas compression and gas handling • Crude oil storage and transfer • Effluent water treatment and handling Project financeThe Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) is the client.
