This opportunity will be of great interest to investors who wish to participate in the ‘green revolution’. The investment raised is being used for the infrastructure needed to develop a facility that turns waste into fuel pellets, then later to turn waste into energy.

The project has received conditional offers for up to £3.5m Welsh Government funding towards building costs, and a further £1.1m from Finance Wales who will participate in equity ownership.

There are only two sites in the region that have planning consent to create energy from waste, and their combined capacity is far lower than the waste generated in the area. The uniqueness of the site has attracted interest from major waste contractors and heads of terms for a £20m contract have been agreed with Biffa Waste Services.

Following the success of their first bond issue, this second tranche aims to raise a maximum of £3.5 million.

The site at Hirwaun in Wales has now assumed a position of strategic importance to the regional waste industry:

• Location: on the Heads of the Valleys trunk route already serving two nearby landfill sites.

• Location: one of only two sites with energy from waste planning permission in the region; with wastes arising that far exceed the combined capacities.

• Location: the only site with appropriate planning within four local boroughs that are soon to tender long-term municipal contracts. To compete for these contracts bidders must be able to offer a local facility.

The uniqueness of the planning status has meant that the site has attracted interest from major waste contractors looking for a facility to process waste into fuel.

Investors are offered the option to exit the investment and redeem their capital after 5 years. Those placing their investment for the full 7 years will receive an additional 2% interest during each of the final 2 years.
