PROPS AND COSTUMESWhy are props and costumes used:Props and costumes in productions of movies and television shows to make the narrative more realistic for thedemographic. In which the tone is being portrayed depends on the genre of the production and how thecamerawork and editing uses this eectively. For example my genre is thriller and this is how we used our propseectively and what we used:

Costume: hy was it used! "ow was It used eectivelyto #t the conventions of mygenre!

$rim laced blackleather gloves

It was used to hide all identity of theonly character in our shots% howeverthe audience can&t connote howmany people wear the gloves atdierent times as theirs no evidence

to support more than one or 'ust onecharacter.

It was used eectively tocreate enigma on theaudience( however leftlittle subliminal messagesthat the character was a

female due to thedenotations of the lace trimon the gloves% causingcounter%hegemonicreading.

I decided to use a plain black hooded'umper as it leaves no evidence tothe gender or any information about

my main character.hereas other materials can leadone gender in particular.

)y having the hooded'umper over si*ed from theactor it doesn&t give away

the #gure of the characterallowing the gender havethe character to remainunknown% allowing tensionand mystery +enigma , tobuild up for the peek of the#lm.

connoting that ourcharacter was smart hasheshe has perfected theskill( connoting the lengthof time he or her havebeen doing this.

$his was used within a largeuse of close ups of dierentphotos in dierent situations

to contrast what is happeningon screen( allowingsigni#cance importance towhat the picture holds withinit which may past targetaudience&s eye.

/uilder orhardware tools

$hese were used toportray and connote the

sinister tone to myproduction. 0lso creating acounter%hegemonicreading due to thestereotypical contrast ofour suspected femalecharacter working withtools.

1ighting was used connoteharsh tone in the harsh lowkey lighting and a rare 2are oflight re2ection of a metalsignifying the importanceattracting the audience&seyes. $he large about of shotsused are all aimed on props(leaving subliminal messages

a heart( we used this toreally explicitly portraythe sinister tone we aretrying to connote to thedemographic.

$he heart was used in a closeup shot( exposing all the partsand detail of the heart(causing enigma and evenmaking the audience uneasy(this makes the shot reallypowerful as it infers thegenre.
