“Education is not the amount of information that is put into your brain and runs riot there, undigested all your life. We must have life-building, man-making, character making, assimilation of ideas. If you have assimilated five ideas and made them your life and character, you have more education

than any man who has got by heart a whole library. If education were identical

with information, the libraries would be the greatest sages in the world and

encyclopaedias the rishis.”

Legacy It was in the year 1997, that Dr. S.C. Vats, founder of Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS), met Swami Jitatmanandaji, an eminent educationist, management expert, author of books on Modern Physics & Vedanta and Indian Ethos in Management, an active social worker and the editor of Prabudh Bharat (Awakened India), a journal started by Swami Vivekananda.

As the destiny ordained under a silver oak tree at ‘Advait Ashram’ in Mayawati in Pithoragrah District of Uttaranchal, vibrating thoughts were flowing from Swamiji’s lips in the balmy aroma of the dense pine and fir forest and he almost gave a diktat to Dr. Vats to set up an Institute, for higher learning in the capital city of India, in the name of Swami Vivekananda, a prophet and a path finder.

It was a gigantic task that fell upon Dr. Vats’ shoulders. But resolved as he was, he returned to Delhi and in a couple of months’ time sold his ancestral house and from the sales proceed of that house seed capital was created, which was so very important for establishing a new Institute with high ideals.

In order to materialize Swamiji’s dreams, Dr. Vats rolled out a road map. As a first step, he held brain storming session with eminent scholars and people from academia along with some legal luminaries and retired civil servants. The brain child of which was a society for Total Revival of Nation, thus called the Society for Total Revival and National Glory and True Heritage (STRENGTH), which was later registered as a charitable society under the Registration of Societies Act, in 1998 with a mission of making VIPS an ideal educational Institution with the clear objective of “Man Making, Character Building, Nation Building” as envisaged by Swami Vivekananda.

From the ChairmanFrom the Chairman“We want an education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased and intellect is expanded by which one can stand on one’s feet,” said Swami Vivekananda. It is in pursuit of this dream of Swami Ji, that the foundation of STRENGTH India Educational Societywas laid and thereafter, Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) was established in 2000.

Even as a sapling, its roots were firm, for they were energized by Swamiji’s teachings. Today, VIPS has grown into a banyan tree, nestling sixteen courses. We continue to stand with determination, moral sight and strength of mind to create capable and ethical human beings with infinite power, infinite knowledge and indomitable positive energy.

To impart training to the students in this direction, we provide innovative pedagogies to encapsulate the prescribed curriculum along with consistency, thereby focusing on the holistic growth of every student at VIPS.

Broadly speaking, education is a way to solve the social problems and evils that the society has been inflicted with, in the aftermath of the tremendous emphasis on materialism. According to Swami Vivekananda, education plays the role of awakening man whereby he/she is able to balance materialism and spiritualism. It is a process of processing accumulated information, strengthening mind and sharpening intellect to realize one’s own self and become confident in carrying out one’s task legally, morally and ethically.

At VIPS, we, together with the parents, strive to shape the characters of our students, enabling them to strengthen their mind and spirit, building within them the commitment to serve the society.

From The Director General

I would share with you five beautiful thoughts from Swami Vivekananda: “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man; All power is within you, You can do anything and everything; Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached; The secret of life is not enjoyment but education through experience; You are the creator of your own destiny.”

It is man-making education, as Swamiji said, all round that we want and for that opportunities are in plenty here. If you manage to imbibe these thoughts as your guiding principle during your stay at Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, you are destined for success in life.

One of the greatest lessons we imbibe at VIPS is to pay as much attention to the means of work as to its end. Our collective focus is on classroom teaching along with co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, which fosters the holistic growth of our students. With the means all right, the end does flow, enabling our students to be placed in fields of success and might.

Following the precepts of Swami Vivekananda, we ardently believe in the fact that ‘doing work is not religion, but done rightly leads to freedom.’ It is this freedom which enshrines character and navigates intellect to blossom into comprehensive learning. All of this is carefully monitored through arduous discipline and impeccable accountability.

I wish each one of you a very productive academic session at VIPS.

From The Principal Director, VIPS-TC & Chairperson, VSBS, VSIT, VSE & VSES
