The public transportation system in the city of Kuala Lumpur serves the city folks very well. This largely due to the traffic congestion and the ever lacking parking lots and as a result, getting around the city using public transport systems is more convenient than private cars as there is no need to hunt for car park. The public transportations will include buses, Monorial, LRT(Light rail transit) and taxis. The cost of using these public transportation systems is one of the lowest in the world.

WelcomeM alaysia is one of the leading economies in the South East Asia (SEA) region with a total population of 25 millions. It is a country almost entirely surrounded by waters and it is strategi-cally located at the heart of SEA. Its largest foreign earning derived from the tourism and its related industries. The Government has not spared its least effort in the upgrading of tour-ism infrastructures, human capitals and tourism related resources with the aim to further drive its economic growth on the dependency of its tour-ism and travel industry. Against such backdrop, it is not difficult to envision that demand for suit-ably qualified and trained human resources are great and will continue to be in demand, these knowledgeable and trained professionals will collectively represent the greatest asset in the churning in of foreign exchange for their coun-try. Our institution, World-Point Academy was incorporated in the year 2003 with the objective to compliment the Government’s effort

in the development of such contributing human resources. Recognizing the need for interna-tionally recognized program for the local as well as the foreign students, the academy has suc-cessfully lined up with IATA/UFTAA (International Air Transport Association and United Federation of Travel Agents’ Associa-tions), CANADA, CITY & GUILDS, UK and CTH (Confederation of Tourism & Hospitality), UK. The most prestigious and coveted travel organi-zation in the world, jointly offer the IATA/UFTAA courses and a host of other travel related courses for both local and oversea students. Having stated this, we like to be known that this academy is serious in the business of tourism and travel and nothing else, and we like you to be so, too. It is therefore our greatest honor to welcome you to join us in the academy to discover the many facets of tour and travel stud-ies. We promise you that it will be fun, exciting and fascinating and at the same time, reward-ing.

The Academy

The academy is housed within a 4-storey commer-cial building located at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Founded in 2004, the academy was established and registered with the Ministry Of Education (MOE) and Ministry Of Tourism (MOT). Started small and deliberately wanted to be relatively small but focus on the sector we know best. Strategically to be competi-tive in the fiercely fought market. The strategy worked well and we constantly maintained a good student count since the early 2004. The local market seems a little too small for this highly competitive sector and it was concluded that foreign students can be attracted into Malaysia to strengthen the position of the academy and efforts were channeled into this new territory.

Nevertheless, permits from the Internal Affairs Min-istry is difficult to obtained and to obtain one, the permit recipient must accept and adhere to strin-gent conditions laid down by the immigration office. It was a mile stone for the academy at the end of 2005 where the permit to recruit foreign students was finally obtained from the Internal Affairs Ministry (KHEDN (S) 100/855/1/Klt 38(48)) This marks a new era for the centre for it will trust itself towards a greater challenge in the much larger world in the international education arena.

The academy premises is located 5 km away from the primary landmark of the country; the Petronas Twin Tower (KLCC). Accessibility is excellent, from Monorail to LRT, these public transportation are all within short walking distance anywhere within the city while taxis and buses are all within arms length. All lectures and courses are conducted in English and students are expected to have a fair understanding of spoken and written English. For students whose English is not their native or first language, a special course will be compulsory, i.e., English Improvement Programmes. It is a course designed for those seeking a recognized Diploma in the Travel studies but lacks the basics use of English. Students are required to attend this course before embarking into the travel & tour courses. More information on the English Programmes is found in the Courses Section in the pages that follow.

Student Club and Student Activities

Students studying tourism are fun loving alots and quite naturally, some students mooted the idea of a student club as they will be together for some time studying under one roof. The objective of such a club, amongst others is to get together as a team to organize tours on their own and have fun during semester breaks and public holidays. The school welcomes the idea and event allotted some fund for the club for their operating needs.

It has been operating since 2004 and some old students still remained active. Since the setting up of the club, the clubmem-bers have visited many countries and organized many festive functions. It is a very good social club particularly for the foreign students who wants to integrate themselves with the local students and build connections with the local students, for future co-operations. It is also a place to find immediate help for some domestic problems. International students are encourage to join the club.

The Development and History of Tourism Tourism Marketing Tourist Information The Organisation and Structure of Tourism Travel Agent Travel Operator Travel by AirTravel by Sea, River Cruses and Ferries

For students who are not coming from the English education system, English is certainly a formidable hurdle to cross, let alone the tourism course proper itself which must be conducted in English. Realizing this pressing issue confronting the students, we have developed a course aimed at those who find English their weakest point: The Tourism English. The teaching approach for this course is base upon the interest shown by the students in travel and tour, where a tour must encompasses conversation with multiple parties who are involved in the entire process of a successful tour; from the point of the idea of having a tour to the point of coming home from a tour, it involves talking to many peoples in the process: from a friend who share the same idea of having a tour to a booking clerk in a travel agency to tour leader to air hostess to tour guild to another tourist, all must be involved in the subject of tour. This will present many interesting scenarios and the English course will take these scenarios to induce the English-based conversation. Naturally, in this preliminary English course, we expect the learners to make mistakes and this is the main idea; to allow the mistakes or errors to teach us. To pick up more useful vocabularies from a tour experience. Every conversation invokes the subject of leisure travel and this will drive away the monotony of learning the basics, such as what is a nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs and so on, which makes English such a hard language to learn. In the nutshell, making English more palatable and fun to learn through the use of travel and tourism centered topics.

English is an important tool for business communication. Whether it is local or international communication, one needs the skill of mastering grammar, delivering information and usage of right terms and vocabulary in their office and business dealings. This course will emphasize its theory and practical exercises. The aim of this course is to prepare the learners to be a marketable human capital in line with the country’s aspiration to be a center of educa-tion excellence.
