WHAT ARE THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF TEEN SUICIDE AND EATING DISORDERS?

A teen who develops an eating disorder feels shame, disgust, and anger about their body. They are usually under a lot of stress.

There are two main types of eating disorders: anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Both are characterized by excessive concern about one's weight and shape and a negative, distorted body image.

Eating disorders are not a fad diet or an experiment to lose weight, but they are serious complex disorders that can take many years to recover from.

67% of the patients with an eating disorder and a history of suicide attempts suffered from depression before the onset of the eating disorder, and only 3% of the patients with an eating disorder and no history of suicide attempts suffered from depression before the onset of the eating disorder.
