OES Monthly Report - February 2017

2/1-2/3 - I completed the Electrical class 1 and 2 at the Fire Academy.

2/1- Mike attended the Southwestern EMS Council meeting in Olean at Good Times. Some of the information presented at the meeting included: The WREMAC approvals for Angelica Rescue Squad for the Check & Inject program and e-PCR EMS Charts. Bonnie met with the NYS Fire Instructors and NYS FPS Josh Brott and set up the spring and summer fire classes.

2/2- Mike contacted Laurie Hennessy and Susan Hunter of the Health Department to make sure that the PPDs (TB Tests) and Flu vaccines were going to be given to the EMT students

2/3 – Mike began working on the paperwork, materials and Guide for the Writing and Management of Homeland Security Grants, which are required for the DHSES Audit beginning on February 21, 2017. Mike also began working on the HSG paperwork required for reimbursements from the State along with filling in the required information on the DHSES e-Grant website.

2/6 - Bonnie and I met with the Olean General, St. James, Angela fire and rescue about the upcoming MCI drill at the Allegany County fairgrounds.

2/7- I met with Deputy Coordinators for a meeting.

2/8- I attended the Department Head Meeting and participated in the WNY EM drill on New York Responds for online reporting . Mike started working on the EMS Training program schedules for the CFR Original and Refresher, the EMT Original and Refresher; the I AEMT Original and Refresher to run concurrently with the Critical Care Original course next fall.

2/9 I assisted the NYS DEC, Allegany County Dept of Health in recovering, documenting, and disposing of some waste. Mike continued working on the Allegany County OES Guide for Writing and Managing DHSES Grants along with beginning work on the CEMS Course Sponsorship Renewal that is due in Albany at the NYSDOH BEMSAT Office before June 30th.

2/13- Mike finalized the necessary State paperwork and CDs for the first night of the CFR Original and Refresher courses, which was to be held on Monday and Wednesday nights. The courses were to begin at 6:00 PM and run until 10:00 PM in the Crossroads Conference Center. Mike attended the first night of the CFR class being taught by Instructor Coordinator Kay Bushman and Certified Lab Instructor Wendy Jacobson. Unfortunately we only had one student attend and had to cancel the course.

2/14 - I met with and assisted the Town of Allen with their Hazardous Mitigation forms. Bonnie and I met with Terri to discuss LEMPG grants.

2/18 - I attended Assemblyman Reeds Town Hall Meeting at the Town of Allen.

2/20-2/23 - I attended the NYS Emergency Managers Conference in Syracuse

2/21- Bonnie and Mike attended a meeting with Shawn Grusendorf and Paul Matrose, a Senior Auditor with the Fiscal Monitoring Unit for the DHSES at the Public Safety Facility to discuss what exactly the audit process for the Sheriff’s Department and the OES would entail.

2/22- The DHSES Review with Paul Matrose began. He started by checking all of our paperwork for equipment, PPE, Generators, Boats and laptop computers purchased with selected grants.

2/23 – Bonnie and Mike will be taking Paul Matrose around to equipment not stored at the Crossroads Facility or the Trailers parked outside. Paul will also go over the LEMP Grant paperwork for the 2012 Grant. Bonnie and Mike attended the Clearing House meeting at the Public Safety Building.

2/24- The Auditor will finish up and meet with the OES staff to make suggestions to better our abilities to meet the requirements for the multiple grants awarded to the OES. .

STOP-DWI NY REGIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITY

High in Plain Sight A comprehensive review of the latest information and trends about alcohol and drug abuse in the United States Presented by Officer Jermaine Galloway “The Tall Cop Says Stop”

The NY State STOP-DWI Foundation, Inc., through funding from the NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is pleased to sponsor regional trainings to benefit local STOP-DWI efforts in New York State. These seminars are free of charge and are designed help police, prosecution, education, prevention, probation and treatment professionals to prevent impaired driving.

The High in Plain Sight training is a comprehensive course on the latest alcohol and drug use trends. The presentation covers alcohol and drug clothing, alcoholic energy drinks, alcopops, alcohol and drug concealment methods and containers, drug paraphernalia, drug related music and groups, logos, stickers, new technology, youth party tendencies, party games, non-traditional alcoholic beverages, social networking sites, synthetic drugs, OTC drugs, inhalants, concentrates, E-cigarettes, and popular party drugs. (This training qualifies for 6 hours of CASAC credit)

The High in Plain Sight training will feature Officer Jermaine Galloway, a retired police officer who, during his career, specialized in alcohol retail compliance checks, underage drinking party enforcement, fake ID training, drug identification and DWI enforcement. Mr. Galloway is certified in drug identification, alcohol beverage laws and community policing. He has received recognition from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The Nakamoto Group an inspections contractor for ICE Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations was at the jail February 7-9 to inspect the facility. The five inspectors held a close-out meeting on Feb 9th and gave our facility very high praise. Thank you to County Administrator Boyde for attending the meeting.

Sheriff Whitney attended the New York State Sheriff’s Association Slow Moving Vehicle Symposium in Syracuse on February 21.

Sheriff Whitney, Undersheriff Monroe and Lt. Grusendorf met with the new officers of the Seneca Nation on Feb 23rd in Salamanca.

The Civil Division served 54 civil processes and collected various undertakings totaling $71,291.25 January 27, through February 21, 2017. (see attached report).
