9. BIODIVERSITY POLICY, ROAD MAP, COMPLIANCE & PUBLIC DISCLOSURE

The objectives of the plantation are a combination of the

following:-

✓The Integrated garden with fruit bearing trees and Medicinal

Plants is developed with the Help of Auroville Team which

attracts both birds and animals which help the environment

suitable for biodiversity.

✓ To utilize fruit bearing species that can provide an income

for people living in the local area.

✓To regain the soil nutrients on the reclaimed area.

✓ To plant species that will attract birds and insects to the

site which leads to Biodiversity.

✓ To have some plantation of herbal species.

✓ Around the viewing area to utilize ornamental species, to

receive visitors to the area.

GREEN BELT – MEDICINAL & HERBAL PLANTS

Name of the saplings

▪Alove Vera – Katalao

▪Ocimum Sanctum – Thulasi

▪Citrus Quadrengularis – Pirandai

▪Cymbopogon Citratus – Lemon Grass

Miyawaki Method of plantation. This

method is planting a number of

different types of trees close together

in a small pit. By closely planting

many random trees close together in asmall area enriches the green cover

and the richness of the land. It

improves ecosystem including the

absorption of carbon di oxide and also

protection of soil from erosion inspiteof mining operation in the close

proximity. It enables small soil animal

and birds to restore quickly. The trees

reach 4 meters after 5 years, 8 meters

in 10 years, 20 meters in 20 years; theresult is a diversified forest that is

allowed to grow naturally after 3 years.

REPLICABILITY OF THE IDEA IMPLEMENTED WITHIN SECTOR OUTISDE SECTOR

➢Mining Activity often leads to environmental problems like

land degradation in open cast mining, deforestation,

atmospheric pollution, soil erosion due to disposal of solid

wastes like overburden, extraction of minerals and so on; all

affecting the ecological balance of the area.

➢The environmental management plan is provided for

controlling the environmental damage, restoration of mined

out area and planting of trees in a systematic and phased

manner.

➢Reclamation and Afforestation should proceed concurrently

with mineral extraction.

➢Ultimately, the concept is to bring back the ecological

stability if not better for some end use even before the mining

operation is completed.

Blending Practices Annexure -2

✓As a part of Mineral Conservation, we proposed to consume

the Material on ROM(run off Mine) basis.

✓ The top and bottom contact zone (UPTO 4M) low grade

material generated in the mine pit will be transported to the

Factory site and separately stacked in the low grade stock

yard.

✓Further the material will be sent to the low grade hopper

and blended with the High grade hopper in order to meet the

Cement Grade Quality.

✓This blending of High grade with Low grade limestone also

enables us to increase the life of the plant / mine.
