DISCUSS (Thursday) Answer the following discussion questions:

Where have you seen a clock, including a digital clock? (On the microwave, on a cell phone, in the classroom, in the living room, etc.) How many minutes are in half an hour? When it is half past seven, how many minutes have there been since 7 o’clock? (There are 30 minutes in a half hour. When it is half past seven, thirty minutes have passed since 7 o’clock.) Look at the clock (show 5:30) What are two ways to say this time? (Five thirty or half past 5.) If there are 30 minutes in half an hour, how many minutes are in one hour? How do you know? (Two halves make a whole, and there are 60 minutes in one hour- 30 + 30 = 60.)

PRODUCT (Friday)

Use words and pictures to show how the hands on a clock look different at 6:00 than at 6:30.

Complete Task: Showing time on an analog clock.

Materials: Analog clock template, clock hands template.

Directions:

1. Cut out the red and blue clock hands. 2. Show the following times on the clock with the clock hands, making sure to move the hands

clockwise: 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:30, 4:00, 4:30, 9:00, 11:00, 11:30 3. Be sure to use the following math words: hour hand, minute hand, o’clock, half past.
