Playing sports in college can be one of the most rewarding decisions you ever make. Our Advice: Prepare to do some challenging work Start by taking notes on what you need to do Letter to coaches This is an introduction letter to all of your prospective college coaches. Be specific! Discuss academic, athletic, and personal goals. In a detailed manner, write about how you are a good fit for the university and why you like the institution. Discuss specifically how you will contribute to an already successful and established environment. 1 Student Athlete Portfolio Statistics from school and club teams, coach info, team and individual accomplishments. 2 General Academic Athletic Height, weight, DOB, graduation year, phone number,, address Overall GPA, SAT and ACT scores, school info, community service Highlight Video Quick 3-6 minute clip of your skills Your style of play Highlight your skills Footage against good competition Footage of you training May include music Include a marker in video Christiaan Caanen's Highlight Video 3 Where to go Make a list of colleges that you will write to. Length of your list should depend on your age o 11th grade = 5-10, and start now o 10th Grade = 20 or more o 9th Grade = 50 or more Consider your academic, athletic, and social needs Discuss finances as a family and connect to your list Pursue colleges that are realistic for you to attend 4 Write to your potential schools You should include your: o Letter to coaches o Highlight video/Game footage o Student Athlete Portfolio o Playing Schedule o Other playing dates Include everything in an online portfolio (Continued on next Slide) 5 Online Athlete Portfolios...
